Saskatchewan Roughriders History

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are a professional team in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and one of the oldest professional North American sports franchises. Originally competing as the Regina Rugby Club in 1910, the team name settled permanently on the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1946 before joining the nascent CFL in 1958. The Roughriders made the playoffs every year from 1962 to 1976, winning their first Grey Cup in 1966. Overall, the team has made 19 Grey Cup appearances, with four wins including 1989, 2007 and 2013. Across their history, the Saskatchewan Roughriders roster has consisted of 20 Canadian Football Hall of Famers, seven Annis Stukus Trophy winners for the CFL’s top head coach and and four Most Outstanding Players, as well as four recipients of the Most Outstanding Canadian Award, six Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Awards, three John Agro Special Teams Awards and two Most Outstanding Defensive Player Awards. The Roughriders’ rivalry with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers has led to two annual matchups between the traditional Labour Day Weekend game and the now-dubbed Banjo Bowl the following weekend.

Saskatchewan Roughriders at Mosaic Stadium

Rider Nation have been gathering for Saskatchewan Roughriders home games at Mosaic Mosaic Stadium since its opening in 2017. The 33,500-seat venue replaced the Roughriders’ long-standing home at the historic Taylor Field after eight decades. The spectator-friendly setting is complete with sunken-bowl seating and tiled panels that partially cover three sides of the field to protect from the Prairie weather. Fans set a capacity record at 33,506 during a 2019 Saskatchewan Roughriders matchup against rivals the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In 2022, Mosaic Stadium hosted the Grey Cup for the first time, marking the fourth time the championship game was held in the city of Regina.

Overall had a great time! We didn’t know about the clear bag policy (first game) and saw afterwards the email about the clear bags. I think it should have been posted when buying tickets! Great staff and ambiance was unreal! Definitely going again

The game was fantastic. Our seats were great. The checkin was flawless because of the process reminders from both the Rider office and Ticketmaster.

    Thriller in Regina

by Stevo on 2021-08-10Mosaic Stadium - Regina

Awesome crowd, atmosphere and venue!!! We travelled this weekend to 3 games. Winnipeg, Regina and then Edmonton. Took in all games and Regina (this hurts me honest as i am a elks fan) out classed, out executed and was totally prepared for the welcome back CFL kickoff. Winnipeg was not ready for the crowds and Edmonton you could have done soooo much with the launch of your new brand. AGT lounge so worth the expense, you guys totally knock it out of the stadium with your hospitality. The rest of the league could learn from your lead.

    The road to excellent continues.

by Drew on 2019-11-22Mosaic Stadium - Regina

It started with ordering my ticket online. I was going with friends that already had tickets so I only needed one. I preferred a single ticket beside the aisle. There were only a few in the area I wanted to sit, I wanted to be closer to the people I was attending the game with as well a easy access to the concourse for food and drink. Ticketmaster’s system wouldn’t allow me to split up a set of two seats, the system wouldn’t leave a single seat stranded. This was just days before the game. So looking at the seat map and what it showed available and based on what the system would allow me to select, I chose a seat on what appeared to be beside the aisle at the end of six empty seats. Again wanting to be as close to the aisle as possible I selected what appeared to be the end seat beside the aisle. As it turns out this particular aisle follows an elevated partition on and angle but, not to the bottom as it appeared on the map. It didn’t split, it turned about nine rows above the row I had selected leaving my seat no on the aisle but six seats in against the wall. Stranded... Not what I was expecting at all. I have had great success ordering tickets for concerts at this venue through Ticketmaster. But, this isn’t the first time I have had issues getting tickets to a football game. The venue is only a few years old and I’m sure it will improve.

Some Riders fans were rude. Fun game and great seats though.

by Brett on 2019-11-20Mosaic Stadium - Regina

I’m a university student in my 20’s and I had a lot of fun. Just had some issues with riders fans being rude and swearing at me for no particular reason at all other than the fact that I was a bombers fan. Not the first time this has happened either, had a riders fan throw a beer at me for wearing a bombers jersey at the Labour Day game. Most fans are great, just a couple of drunk riders fan ruin it for me each time.

Great time at the West Final

    by I. M. on 2019-11-20Mosaic Stadium - Regina

I really wanted to reiterate that I was very impressed with the experience at Mosaic last weekend. It was our first game as a family and the first game for all of us at new Mosaic. Just some background, my wife and I used to go to old Mosaic, about 3-5 games per year, before we had kids but stopped going when our son was born in 2008. The reasons we didn't go is that I was under the impression that the games weren't affordable and I didn't want my children exposed to misbehaviour, foul language and excessive drinking. Section 523 actually solved all three problems. We were surrounded by other families and we were able to buy 4 tickets for $240, which is a price we could handle, maybe once per year. I was also skeptical about the shuttle bus, but I have to say I was impressed by that as well. We parked free at the University of Regina were shuttled right to the gate. Really, all of my concerns were unfounded. The in-game experience was also great. Our youngest is 9 and not a big sports fan, but between the megatron, Gainer and the cheerleaders, she stayed engaged. The game itself was exciting, which also helped. Even though we didn't have premium seats, the sight lines were really great so I didn't miss anything. Again, the megatron really helped with that. To be honest, it was my wife's idea to go and I resisted, but I'm really glad I gave in. We had a fantastic time. We'll definitely go to at least one game next year.

I’m a big fan of the Saskatchewan roughriders

by Carol on 2019-09-06Mosaic Stadium - Regina

My best friend and I really enjoyed the Labor Day game, he cheers the loudest as he can sometimes he kind of loses his voice from cheering. I don’t think he ever missed a Rider game and I missed one... we’re always searching for jerseys he wants a white one and I want a white dressler one, some day we’ll find them... I could probably say more about the Riders and show our rider pride everyday 💚🏈💚
