About

German heavy rock icons, SCORPIONS, will be bringing their 50th Anniversary Tour to Melbourne for their first-ever Australian show.

In 1988, the Hanoverian pioneers were the first Western rock band to play five consecutive sold-out shows in then Soviet Leningrad. Returning the following year to play the Moscow Music Peace festival, Scorpions ultimately conquered Russia, inspiring frontman Klaus Meine to write the track that became a theme song to the Iron Curtains final fall: Wind of Change.

Travelling to Australia for the first time in the 50-year history of the band, Scorpions, comprising Klaus Meine (vocals), Rudolf Schenker (guitar), Matthias Jabs (guitar), Mikkey Dee (drums) & Pawel Maciwoda (bass), will play their debut Australian show at Melbournes Palais Theatre on Tuesday October 18.

Tickets for this special event will go on sale at 10am Friday, July 29.

Scorpions official fan club community Rock Zone will have an exclusive ticket pre-sale starting 10am Monday, July 25 until 10am Tuesday, July 26.

Telstra Thanks is bringing an exciting 48-hour pre-sale just for Telstra customers from midday Tuesday, July 26 until midday Thursday, July 28. For more information on how to purchase, visit: telstra.com/music.

Five decades have passed by since the days the juvenile Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs wandered the streets of Hanover, then just awakening from post war paralysis, with a barrow carrying their instruments and amplifiers. In those 50 years, they have become arguably Germanys most successful rock band, accumulating unit sales of more than 100 million, including certified album sales exceeding 22 million.

1979s Lovedrive was the bands first album to reach the Billboard 200, followed by the Top Ten hits Savage Amusement (1988), Love At First Sting (1984) and Blackout (1982). Top Ten Billboard hard rock albums include Sting In The Tail, Comeblack and MTV Unplugged.

The bands 1991 mega-hit ballad Wind Of Change peaked at #2 on the Billboard chart and hit #1 in seven countries, while the anthemic Rock You Like A Hurricane has been covered more than 150 times by different musicians.

Scorpions had further Top Ten hits, including: #1 No One Like You (1982), I Cant Explain (1989), Rhythm Of Love (1988), Tease Me, Please Me (1990), Send Me An Angel (1991) and Alien Nation (1993).

Few rock bands of this caliber take to the stage as often as Scorpions, embodying a much envied reputation as one of those very rare bands that have transcended time and risen far above the crowd.

    Down right awesome

by DrownedScorpion1 on 2010-06-28Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

Minus the terrential rain storm, the concert it's self was awesome. Cinderella was outstanding for an opening act. While the Scorpions literally brought the 'Rock' back into 'Rock & Roll'.

Great concert! They played great and sounded great. I have to admit that there were a couple of songs I didn't know, but it didn't matter because they were amazing. The show was unforgettable!!!

    Electrifying Performance by Scorpions

by Gyuri on 2010-06-28Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

Cinderella opened the show with a great performance. But the "meat" of the show, were the Scorpions, who electrified the audience. I spent half of the concert standing and clapping my hands. The concert made the wait in the pouring rain and the ocasional water spray in the sitting area forgetable.

by jlosarockin on 2010-06-28Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

Saw the Show last night and what a great show it was. They still have it and i would see them again and again and again and again. The sound and lighting and stage were all rockin. The solos were also Kickin...... If it wasn't for the rain i'm sure most of us would have had more hype.
