    Absolutely incredible show!

by Chels19 on 2018-01-20Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

The show was phenomenal: the story was very powerful, the dancing was amazing, the costumes were beautiful! I could keep going but everything I could say about it would be more positive feedback!

Shaping Sound was packed with talent and energy!

by dael on 2018-01-20Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

When I read the description of the ballet, I was unsure that my heart could handle this production. My brother committed suicide 3 years ago. Travis Wall is so dedicated and creative with his choreography, that he brought this topic to the forefront without being morbid. I watched his season of SYTYCD and followed his career. It would have been a mistake not to attend this magnificent ballet. I feel,Travis has natural talent and inner passion to continue to create and entertain for future generations.

    An unforgettable performance!

by CarmenM on 2018-01-20Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

After Wednesday's performance of Shaping Sound, I came home and looked at my schedule to see if there was any way to get to Calgary for the weekend so I could see this show again. It was brilliant. Not only incredible dance performance and choreography, but stage production was beyond anything I have every seen. I have never seen a story told so well on stage before using movement, props and stage production. It was like reading a book you can't put down. Thank you so much Travis Wall and Company!

    Incredible

by Smile4me on 2018-01-20Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Incredible choreography and dancing. The body movements so flowing and so acrobatic like, just incredible. The story line so true to many lives and their struggles to be good and yet within the good there is a dark side whether it be depression or uncertainty or a desire that will harm rather than improve ones character. This is a must see ballet. I am sure Travis Wall will win another award for this great production.

    Shaping Sound was amazing!

by Linda68 on 2018-01-20Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I simply can't wait for Travis and crew to make there way to Edmonton with their next show because I would not miss it! I have seen Broadway shows in NY and I would definitely equate Shaping Sound to any Broadway show. There was so much texture from lighting, to using different stage screens that come down to provide a different effect, to fully using all the moveable stages to create different areas was very real and the idea to use a hanging screen that types as Travis types gave the audience background and you found yourself more immersed into the show... genius! Since now words were spoken, the way the dancers used their bodies to express thoughts was on point and the quality of the production was top notch! I would highly recommend anyone to see this show... one of my favourites.

    Shaping Sound Was Amazing

The dancers were so light on their feet. And their ability to tell a story through dance was unforgettable. Definitely a must see!

Hands down the best event I've ever been to, the dancing was incredible the choreography smooth and exciting. I loved the variance of shadows and light used throughout. I wish it was recorded I'd buy that to watch it over and over again !

No less than what I expected from such a talent

by CrissytinaCC on 2018-01-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

There is nothing I can say that would describe how visually stunning, elegant, graceful or just completely entertaining this production is. It is a beautiful story and easy to follow along with little or no words needed. The ONLY complaint, if you can call it that, is I wish it had a different ending. As a gay woman, and not wanting to give anything away, I just wish we could have a happy ending, just a little tired of all our stories ending in tragedies.

    Disappointed :(

by acwhite08 on 2018-01-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

It was drab and the music was terrible. Too much soap opera and gimmickry, not enough dancing. I kept looking at my watch wondering when it would be over. It pains me to say this because I absolutely LOVED last year's Shaping Sound performance.

    Simply Amazing!

by Reener on 2017-03-26Queen Elizabeth Theater - Vancouver

It took us a while to figure out what the story line was all about, so the first part was a bit confusing. But we eventually figured out what was going on and it started to make sense. But even being confusing, the dancing was simply stunning to watch and Travis Wall is a brilliant choreographer! There were some outstanding numbers, like the one where the dancers all held lighted spheres, one number where a black light is used to illuminate paper sheets into shapes and pulsing designs, a duet with Travis on a wire performing acrobat moves in the air with a female dancer, and a moving number where Travis is suspended upon and dances on long poles. I agree with another reviewer who said that the show might not appeal to younger children because of the story line and the very "heavy" music. But we loved it and didn't want it to end!

This show was breathtaking! The story was extremely emotional, with a dark twist. The level of professionalism was at its highest. It was lovely to see familiar faces from So You Think You Can Dance and discover new dancers. The music fit each choreography perfectly and the lyrics even fit the storyline. The visual effects are stunning, the acrobatics were clean and the props were interestingly manipulated. The tapping sounded a bit dull unfortunately, probably because of the wooden surface, but Anthony Morigerato set up a brilliant chreography. I would not recommend this for children because the storyline is difficult to grasp and the music might be overwhelming at times. A must-see for lovers of contemporary dancing.

Have been to other shaping sound events and loved them! This one was not about the dancing enough plus the level of dancing was not at the level I usually expect. The props were distracting. I go to this show just to experience great dancing. There are not many shows that do just that in this genre. I was left feeling flat no climax or upbeat moments. I understand the message but expected more I guess.

    LIVING for Shaping Sound

by DancerPants on 2017-03-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I have honestly never seen a show like this before. I am an avid dance fan, and while I am not always a fan of contemporary dance, this is the best show I've seen. The dancers were so fluid and technically amazing, but it still felt so human. We sat on the balcony and could hear the dancers breathing. All around, an incredible show.

Shaping Sound at the Sony Centre

by Jersey12 on 2017-03-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Travis Wall is someone I have followed since he appeared on So You Think You Can Dance as a contestant. As a choreographer on the show, he has had some great routines although I've found that they've become somewhat maudlin and not diverse enough in mood. I was interested to know what his own show would be like so I got tickets for Christmas for my sister and me. Unfortunately, I have to say I was somewhat disappointed. I didn't feel moved by the story and I felt the casts talents weren't utilized enough. The staging was not appealing and the transitions from scene to scene were a little clunky. The best routine to me was the group number near the end. I would have liked to see the dancers featured more independently instead of always moving in a group. There were too many characters for the story he was trying to tell. I didn't feel there was enough of a chance to get involved in the relationship between the two men. My experience of the show was hampered further by the young girls I sat beside who turned on their cell phones every five seconds and then I was harassed by the mom who was extremely rude and switched seats with one of the girls to sit beside me and unleash a tirade about my coat and then she repeatedly rammed her hands into my sides as she shoved my coat into the seat I was in. And this was after I arrived at my seat to find one of them sitting there and moving very slowly and reluctantly to get out of my seat. I wish I had gotten security on her. So generally, not my best experience at the Sony Centre.
