About

Although raised in Australia, Sia Furler rose to fame after moving to the U.K., where she worked as a guest vocalist for several groups -- including the electronica duo Zero 7 -- and released her own solo albums. Born in 1975, she first performed on the Adelaide jazz circuit during the '90s as a vocalist for the band Crisp. An attempt to launch a solo career in 1997 didn't pan out, though, and the blonde, blue-eyed antipodean eventually hopped on a plane to London. While there, she landed a gig as a backup singer for Jamiroquai and inked a solo contract with DancePool, a sublabel of Sony.

Sia released her first single, "Taken for Granted," in early 2000. Although the song only peaked at number 100 on the Australian charts, it rose to number ten in the U.K. and increased European demand for her debut album, Hearing Is Difficult, which followed in 2001. At the same time, a string of big names in the British music scene began asking for Sia's services; offers from Zero 7 and William Orbit ensued. Although some projects only called for Sia to sing on one song, her association with Zero 7 proved to be a recurring thing. She ultimately remained with Zero 7 for three albums, serving as the group's go-to vocalist while also furthering her own career with solo releases like Colour the Small One and Some People Have Real Problems.

Meanwhile, Sia also began building an audience in America. One of the songs from Colour the Small One, "Breathe Me," gained attention when it was used in the elaborate final scene of the Six Feet Under series, and the resulting buzz allowed her to enjoy a successful stateside tour. That tour was documented on her first live release, Lady Croissant, in 2007. By the following year, Sia's American audience had increased to the point that Some People Have Real Problems, her third album, debuted at number 26.

Zero 7 began working on another album in 2009, but Sia had already shifted most of her attention to furthering her own career, and the band hired another singer in her place. Working alongside bassist Sam Dixon, she boosted her songwriting cred by writing several songs for Christina Aguilera, who put the s

    Sia Is Mega-Love (As Usual)

by Dinobott on 2011-08-22Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Sia is always an amusing and unforgettable performer. Her show in Vancouver, BC was wierd, fun and very entertaining. I saw her last year when she had to quit suddenly because of an illness but for how long she was on stage, she was chatty and belted out her songs with gusto. Her voice is comparable to few, but she resides in the ranks of Beyonce and Florence Welch. Sia has an excellent stage presence; the night didn't seem long enough. Anyone who has the opportunity to see her live, should. There will be no regrets to be had.

    Magical

by Biriba on 2011-08-21Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I don’t normally use words like magical. But Sia’s show was in fact just that. Like a great novel that you never want to put down. The show started off with an amazingly talented young singer by the name of Ximena Sariñana. Causing a sound like nothing I’ve heard before to linger in my head for days. Following her act was a group by the name of Oh Land. Entertaining to say the least, very animated, even the drummer was cool to watch. But the best part was the amazing show of Sia’s. I have never seen such a good show in my life. It was like staring at the 3d screen of the movie avatar, and then leaving the theater to feel let down that our world doesn’t look the same. I didn’t want the night to end.

Very entertaining performance. Wish she did more softer acoustic things though!

    Sia is just magical.

by Ashlena on 2011-07-29The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

As usual Sia has a voice that can only be heard live. Her CD's do not do her justice. Her voice is so powerful which is why I'm glad she decided to perform at the Pheonix. This is her last tour (I hope she changes her mind) so if you didn't get to see her live you missed out on something amazing. Also 'Oh Land' the band that opened are amazing. Check them out!

    Oh land! Stole the show.

by Paigesixxx on 2011-07-28The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

I've been wanting to see Sia now for 5 years. I finally had the chance and was a little disappointed. I went a Sia fan. Left an Oh land! Convert. Sia has an incredible voice and songs that mean something but half weren't performed and the ones that were she forgot lines to. (okay, only one). She was pretty witty and the band sounded great but it wasn't a show I would boast about. The openibg act was by far the best part of the night. If you haven't heard of Oh Land! You must. A single female singer with an incredible drummer and music like you have never heard. With vocals that could put Sia to shame, to synths that could make anyone dance and lyrics that you can and want to sung along to! The energy level went from as high as ceiling thanks to Oh Land! To low to the ground after Sia was done.

    Interactive, fun and simply amazing!

by Flowerboy on 2011-07-27The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Sia sets that stage right as soon as she walks on the stage, with a big smile and all the stage set up with quilted material, for her signature cd look. Not only does she sound amazing live but she makes the audience feel at home with her banter and quirky remarks. As this may be her last tour, I have to say it's by far one of my favourite concerts ever!

Vocals that go straight to your heart

by illy on 2011-07-26The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Sia gave an amazing performance us usual. She wasn't as active on stage as I've seen her in the last three shows here in Toronto, but her vocals did all the heavy lifting by far. The Pheonix was a great venue for that kind of performance.

    Sia Concert

by Njkohl on 2011-07-26The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Overall, the concert was great. The opening band was not the one advertised though and the waiting time prior to and between acts was ridiculously long.

    Great lineup

by jcardozo on 2011-07-26The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

I got the tickets solely to see Oh Land who was opening for Sia. I didn't know any of Sia's songs but after watching her, she made me want to know them. Oh Lands opening was the highlight for me - unfortunately way too short for my liking (only played 30 minutes) and was a tad annoyed waiting another half an hour between sets. But when Sia came on, her quirky yet endearing personality and performances were something to watch. They were a good match to put together.

    Sia and Oh Land killed!

by eleni on 2011-07-26The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

First time seeing Sia live and it was totally worth it! She has the stage presence of a seasoned pro, chatting with the audience and being present in the moment. Not to mention the great opening set by Oh Land which started the night off with a bang!
