    Sonic Youth is the Truth

by murrk on 2009-07-16Massey Hall - Toronto

Legends who need not an opening act to get you pumped up... Sonic Youth was a rare and unforgettable experience. The entire new album was played followed by not one, but two encores. Massey Hall delivers a great setup, sound, and crowd. As the only artists of the night, there's no time to burn out and still time to catch the subway afterward!

    Sonic Youth - Massey Hall

by Adventureawaits on 2009-07-16Massey Hall - Toronto

Sonic youth are one of a kind. Experimental, unique, visionary, bizarre but utterly compelling. The beginning of the show was great. The middle was a bit of a lull for me as it was all new material and I did not know it well enough. The ended incredibly strong and the encores where spectacular. The Entrance band opened and were quite good as well.

    Sonic Youth at Massey Hall

by Musesboy on 2009-07-16Massey Hall - Toronto

Although it would be a dream to actually pick the setlist from their entire discography, this was still exceptional. I was grinning to myself the whole time thinking how my friends wouldn't get it at all being fans of classic rock. The new album, The Eternal, just got even better after I heard it in full live. Every member of the band adds something important to the sound. Shelley's drums were incredible live. I was only six rows back and could see how he held things together. Some of the live versions are even better than those on the album. What We Know was probably the biggest improvement, along with Poison Arrow and Leaky Lifeboat. Gone the woah woah's. Stronger stuff. Death Valley 69 was the shocking closer. A really vicious version. Hard to imagine a better concert by anybody.

    Long time Fans beware!!!

by Dogballs on 2009-07-16Massey Hall - Toronto

This show is the whole new album with a few classics sprinkled in lightly. I hadn't heard a single new song going in and still loved the show. They totally rocked!! If you are going for some of that old stuff get out your records and save your subway money because this is the wrong place.
