    Squamish does it again

by pracatan on 2014-08-11Loggers Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields - Squamish

This was my second year at Squamish and it doubled in size since last year. I was worried they wouldn't pull it off but they sure did. We stayed in premium camping which, while much more expensive than regular camping, turned out to be money well spent. We had ample showers and washrooms with air conditioning and flushing toilets! We had a direct entrance into the festival which made it so easy to come and go. The two main stages are pretty far apart which mean you spend a bit of time hoofing it back and forth to see all the bands. The new Blueprint and Meadow stages were both great. There were plenty of food options and a great artisan marketplace. The cashless payment system, using the wristband, was great and made lineups move very quickly. A great line up - of course it's all about the music! The staff and volunteers in the campground were super friendly and helpful and delivered ice to us every day. A great experience, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

    Too dusty and poorly organized

by Jenn789 on 2014-08-11Loggers Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields - Squamish

The camp ground was dusty (with no grass). Wind blows the dust everywhere. It feels like a refugee camp in the third world. (We heard other people talking about the same thing. ) For $350 weekend camping, there is no hot shower or flashing toilet. Next time, we better just camp in the woods and save ourself lots of time checking in and waiting for hours under the hot sun. We can't stay at the camp ground after 8am since it is extremely hot without any shade. Also, you have to stand in line for over 1 hour under the hot sun just to get your cell phone charged. (You can't charge cameras or other electronics.) There is a serious efficiency problem there and everything is poorly organized. When people complained about taking so long just to charge their phones, the staff said that it was a free service. But It is not free since we paid $350 for the weekend and getting nothing but a tiny piece of dusty land and feeling like in a refugee camp. We are experienced with camping, but couldn't have imaged such a dusty camping ground with everything poorly organized.) We had a good time there socializing with others, but it should not be $350 for weekend, not for refugee camp ground. The conditions are too basic. Rural Africa even had better conditions.

    Squamish

by Rmhtattoo on 2014-08-11Loggers Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields - Squamish

The festival was awesome! Great entertainment. Eminem and Bruno Mars stood out for me. And atmosphere! Food was pretty good minus one or two vendors.. Hardest thing was bus schedules and parking during festival times. Huge crowd, met some great people.

    Premium camping was over rated

by LilyPugley on 2014-08-11Loggers Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields - Squamish

Great people to camp with and Avril did a good job. Parking? 25 minutes away. Numerous issues with private access-depending on mood security guard was in. Teenagers camping with families treated poorly. Showers and toilets were great until Sunday. Would never waste money again as perks seem to be at other sites. Everyone had free showers. Not accessible for people with disabilities. Otherwise sufficient.

    Arcade Fire blew my mind!

by Allie14 on 2014-08-11Loggers Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields - Squamish

VIP pass was so worth it! No portapotties! Air conditioned trailer with flush toilets! Shade! Chairs! Beverage service! Elevated decks! Grass! The view was good, although I am not tall and the railings always seemed to be at eye level when I was seated. The sound was pretty good, not as loud as it was directly in front of the stage. VIP food service would have been most appreciated. Long lineups in the food courts most of the time. Sunday night some of the toilets were blocked and some ran out of toilet paper. Still better than the portapotties, I'm sure!

    Premium camping is worth it!

by Allie14 on 2014-08-11Loggers Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields - Squamish

No stopping in Britannia Beach to register. No shuttle buses. Drive to the campground and unload your stuff. Ditto for packing up. Air conditioned flush toilets and hot showers. I did not use a portapotty all weekend! Walk to the venues. Some confusion on Saturday morning about using the Backwoods VIP lounge (security said not until 2pm, but we were actually allowed to use it anytime). Lot 6 was full, including many vehicles without parking passes, had to drive further to lot 5 and walk back. The official mobile phone charging station never arrived, but the power bar and christmas light plugs seemed to work just fine! Thank you for the ice and the insect repellant. Special thanks to the campground manager, who was awesome in every way! In a perfect world, there would have been an espresso and breakfast food truck at the gate! Sunday night the DJ in the Backwoods Lounge played until 0500! But I remembered to bring earplugs :)

Camping and set up was awful

by dancewalking on 2014-08-11Loggers Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields - Squamish

30 minute walk to and from the festival grounds was terrible. Camping was worse. The sand was so disgusting in diamond and circle. Showers were awful - so freezing cold. Could barely stay in them for more than a couple minutes.

Small plot for Price and 4 to Camp

by Gators on 2014-08-11Loggers Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields - Squamish

Line up for showers were way too long... only two showers for the men No food available inside the campground and a very poor cooking set up Luckily we were in a grass campsite. The other two dirt ones I heard were unbearably dusty. I would have wanted a refund or discount if I had to deal with that on top of the overpriced / under serviced camping setup.

    Squamish Music Festival 2014

by Jordyne on 2014-08-11Loggers Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields - Squamish

I found that the artists that played were absolutely amazing. The bathrooms were maintained a lot better than they were the years before. The sand at the campsite was horrible and I will not return to camp if it is sand again next year. I wish the festival and the campgrounds were a bit closer together. I did not like how you had assigned groups to camp with and how some people were split up from their other friends. The security and volunteers were extremely helpful which made the trip more enjoyable. It's annoying how there is a $3.50 start up few for the wrist band and how there is also an additional fee to receive me money back that I did not spend. The food was great and the water stations were appreciated. The sand was very difficult though. Thanks for the festival guys!! Hope this feedback helps with the years to come:)

Great bands, great people, efficient service

by eternity13 on 2014-08-11Loggers Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields - Squamish

All the bands were fantastic, most lines went very quickly except on the last day, but that was due to the sheer volume of people. One beer garden had wristbands they could scan for your ID information, this would be super handy if it worked for all the beer gardens, something to think about for next year. Wish there was more variety for beer gardens, like maybe an alcoholic slushee or a few highball options. Beer and coolers get old quickly. Also putting a food stand in each beer garden would be a good idea as well, also water stations in the beer gardens. All in all festival was fantastic, they did a great job of moving people through quickly and efficiently and everyone was very friendly. Had some awesome food vendors, seemed to be less random vendors then I have previously seen, and none of the random vendors accepted the wristbands for payment which was a hassle due to the website saying the festival would be completely cashless.

    Great vibe, almost perfectly executed

by eternity13 on 2014-08-11Loggers Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields - Squamish

All staff was super friendly and efficient, did not enjoy the sand, but recognize it was the best option in leu of grass which was unble to grow. The only bad thing I have to say would be regarding the loading process. Parking lot was very far away from campsite and although there were shuttles, they seemed more of a hassle. I think having large Dolly's available to people or having some golf carts to help transport could have helped greatly. It would have been nice if the wristbands were able to be used for food and essentials in the campsite. Bathrooms were serviced often, any mess was strictly due to campers, not lack of effort regarding staff. Cannot believe how friendly all the staff were, I expected them to get fed up with campers at some point but they were handing out high fives and keeping everybody smiling. Overall very happy with my decision to camp

    Great music, poorly organized

by Anonymous on 2014-08-11Loggers Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields - Squamish

We loved the bands but felt that staff and management was not ready for the event. The location is beautiful, mountains all around, fresh air, bright moon and stars. Great lineup this year with good mix of soft music and upbeat. All artists played their new and old - very cool overall experience. Now the bad: I have attended other music festivals and this one was a 2 out 10 when it came to food, drinks, bathrooms and Overall organization. Had purchased VIP passes. None of the VIP areas were marked on the maps so it made it difficult to find given that the event is spread over a couple of kms. Staff also didnt know.. Mainstage VIP tent had no lights in the washroom day 1 and no maintenance the other days. Also day 1 bar wasnt working for about 5 hrs. Parking lots were located about 10 blocks away wiith half of that through the woods - with no shuttle. First night, black bear warning ... We waited 2 hrs before it was safe to proceed on foot. So overall, thumbs up to the musicians and thumbs waaay down to the organizers!

Great music, concentration camping at Circle Camp

by CaptainCancun on 2014-08-11Loggers Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields - Squamish

The Diamond and Circle campgrounds were boot camps, concentration camp like living arrangements. Thousands of people of all ages were squeezed into 10 by 12 ft gravel and sand squares in searing heat and blustering winds and with no ability to load and unload tents and necessities. One of the worst and most hostile living arrangements I've ever subjected myself and my partner to. Also at least 20 minute walks to anywhere with inadequate transportation opportunities. It was a thrill to see Foster the People and Eminem and they were fantastic as were many other performers. But to have Bruno Mars and Foster the People playing at the same time a kilometer away was just wrong.

    Fabulous festival!

by longintooth on 2014-08-11Loggers Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields - Squamish

My husband and I attended the Friday of the Squamish Festival. We had a fabulous, fun time and enjoyed all of the bands that we saw. I really wanted to see Bruno Mars and he and his band delivered a polished performance as expected. We enjoyed the Zolas, the Courtneys and many other bands. Serena Ryder's performance was exceptional and you could tell that she really enjoyed rockin it. We are old (approaching 60) and the festival was very enjoyable for us due to the fabulous organization. The organizers really provided great amenities for the attendees. Despite the large number of attendees, there were never significant waits for toilets or food kiosks. There were several vendor kiosks which gave out cool merchandise. The physical layout of the festival was great with 4 stages which provided ample room for the crowds. So much better organized than the 2008 Permerton Festival! The attendees to the Squamish Festival were comfortable and that made for a happy crowd and experience! Great job, organizers!

    3 Amazing days!

by Corazon22 on 2014-08-11Loggers Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields - Squamish

My first time at the festival and I had a great time. Definitely want to go back next year. The venue was stunning, it was well organized and the acts were fantastic. Loved the Virgin Mobile VIP area. I am so happy my phone is with them as this is a great perk for members. The layout of the festival was good, there was lots of delicious food to choose from, line ups were not too bad except sometimes for the port-a-potties. Loved the cashless system with wristbands- made it very easy not to have to carry money. The shuttle service to and from Vancouver was excellent and went very smoothly. Highlight for me was definitely Bruno Mars, Eminem and Arcade Fire. All put on incredible shows!

Well organized event - beautiful venue

by SteveShrew on 2014-08-11Loggers Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields - Squamish

Well organized before and during the event. Family campsite - spacious, comfortable, well behaved clients (but close to highway). Hot showers! Cell phone charging. First aid. Near Tim Horton's, and Starbucks for breakfast. Festival itself - music wall to wall. Kept to timetable. Shame a few more big names couldn't be signed up but Bruno Mars, Temper Trap, Reuben and the Dark, CHVRCHES, Arctic Monkeys, Eminem all did good sets. (Missed Arcade Fire - bummer!) Pervasive pot smoke everywhere but crowd all well behaved and not a major problem. Took my three kids (15, 14 & 11) and they had a blast and felt safe and confident - kudos to the organisers.

    Meh

by Asteph on 2014-08-11Loggers Sports Grounds and Centennial Fields - Squamish

The money spent on this event wasn't worth it. The headliners were big names, but they weren't big Indie names like past SVMF events. Bruno Mars was a great performer and Arcade Fire made it all worth it, but the camping conditions were awful and completely overpriced. $350 for a 10X12 square and you have to pay for showers on top of that? With a 30 minute walk to festival grounds? I won't make that mistrake again. The sub-headliners and smaller bands were a bit of a let down. And would have liked a little more organization from staff. Also, shuttle busses were unreliable and not as frequent as organizers said they were.
