  • Show of the year so far

by dorrcoq on 2015-09-02Hard Rock Casino Vancouver - CoquitlamRating: 5 out of 5

Last time Steve played at the Casino (when it was still the Red Robinson Theatre) he played solo. That was a great show as well...but this time with full backing from The Dukes the show was simply amazing. Lots of songs from his latest blues album, plus a good sprinkling of older classics made for a great two hour set. Chris Masterson on guitar is a great, great player, and his wife, Eleanor Whitmore, is a versatile and extremely talented musician and singer. Steve also entertained with a number of humourous between song stories and comments.

With a mix of old songs & new the evening flew by in a relaxed but energetic buzz.

Was hoping for a more "classic" Steve Earle show, with the country and bluegrass. Was to rock for us. We will always be fan's but not of his rock.

  • Steve was amazing - venue not great

    by Earlefan9 on 2014-07-02Deerfoot Inn & Casino - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Steve Earl's artistry was as amazing as ever. Had to write a review, though to let the venue know the sound quality was terrible. I'm not sure if it was the shape of the room or the person in charge of mixing. At the start of the show you could only hear drums and bass and nothing else. By the end of the show they had it sorted out not too badly.

We had a blast at the show. Unforgettable time. Recommend

  • odd venue made intimate by a worldly troubador

by michaelat on 2014-07-01Deerfoot Inn & Casino - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Performing at a casino seemed an odd choice for Steve Earle; I can't imagine it as being his choice, but once the concert began, it warmed up rapidly. The Mastersons opened the show, with a nice Austin based country flavour. They were a perfect accompaniment for Steve, since they also double as the lead guitarist for his band the Dukes, and she both fiddler and vocalist. When Steve Earle and the Dukes came on, the atmosphere went electric, as did the music-initially-before settling into a groove of power ballads and quieter reflections. Into the middle of the show he brought the audience to their feet with his standard, Copperhead Road, and for the rest of the show many stayed there, singing and even waving their bic lighters-something I haven't seen since the 70's! A brilliant show, all in all...so great to see him after a couple of shows missed these past few years.

  • Amazing Performance

by sorensenman on 2013-11-01Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The show opened with the Masterson's, introduced personally by Steve Earle. Two people with their instruments and incredible voices doing a short set. It was such a great opener. When Steve came on stage and the Masterson's came out to play as part of the Dukes, I was pleasantly surprised. Steve was awesome and his new songs rang true. He couldn't have put together a better group of musicians. Hope they come back to Toronto again soon!

  • Steve Earle and Massey Hall is a winning combinati

by beelo on 2013-11-01Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Great set. Steve Earle delivered a good mix of old and new, rock'n'roll and bluegrass. He's a great storyteller and Massey Hall was a great backdrop for it all.

  • Steve Earle still rocks!

  • STEVE EARLE The last hard core troubadour

    by Jbird1 on 2013-08-04McPhillips Station Casino - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

it's becoming increasingly difficult to find good acts theses days, not mr Earle. Steve has a catologe that most artists would dream of and has lots to choose from. The two hour set was intiment and with a message. Earle expressed concern several times thorough out the show about the current economic situation in the USA. The album "Low Highway" was inspired by earle touring around the country and SEEING first hand how much poverty has grown. Probably the part of the show that meant the most to me was when he came out for a little while after his set to see the fans.... it's a nice touch that he doesn't have to do.

  • Steve Earle was in great form!

by Better on 2013-08-04McPhillips Station Casino - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

I have seen Steve Earle many times and I enjoyed this performance the BEST! His new material continued to show he is one of the best songwriters around. He seemed to draw positive energy form his band and the crowd. I kook forward to seeing again!

  • Steve Earle & the Dukes at Massey Hall

by Pokites on 2012-08-16Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Steve at the beginning of his Townes tour when Alison Moore was still on tour and he shows the same energy and enthusiasm at the end of this tour away from his family. The man is an amazing artist!

  • Steve Earle - the real deal

    by habs1227 on 2012-08-16Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I guess the problem with an artist such as Steve is that he has such a tremendous body of work, so there are many many songs that you wish he would play, alas not the case. I saw Steve last year opening for Blue Rodeo. It appears he has a pretty strict set list that does not vary enough. C'mon Steve, vary you selection...how can you not play Justice in Ontario, in Ontario ? You don't always have to play those songs that everyone knows - play the ones that the masses don't know but should. Your faithful fans will appreciate it, and the casual fans will gain a better appreciation for the depth & breadth of your music. Hope you make it to Toronto next year...

  • Earle and the Dukes

by YardMan on 2012-08-16Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

It was great to see Steve with the band again and the venue is my favourite place to see a band. That being said I was disappointed that Alisson wasn't there and the band was incomplete. I would also suggest that whoever was mixing the sound needs to retrain or apprentice. Steve's vocals were drowned out most of the show, and the lead guitar was way too loud when compared to rest of the band. Maybe it was because of where I was sitting, but I have been to many many many shows at Massey and this was the worst mixing I have ever heard there.

  • Steve delivered the goods!

by Waterboysfan on 2012-08-16Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

After following - and enjoying - Steve Earle's music since the late 80's, I finally got around to attending one of his shows; and at my favourite venue, Massey Hall. Steve and the Dukes' performance and on-stage delivery was amazing. He has a real rapport with his fans and connected with the audience through his story-telling; not only enhancing the song to which each story pertained, but also entertaining in a provocative or humourous fashion. Two lengthy encores included a sneak peak at his forthcoming album. The Mastersons opened with an awesome set as well. An all-round great event!

  • Incredible performance

  • Disappointed

by Fillsilver on 2012-07-24McPhillips Station Casino - WinnipegRating: 2 out of 5

Sound quality was poor. Could not understand what Steve was singing. I don't know if it was where we were sitting or that the sound guy was not doing his/her job. Guitars overpowed the vocals on every song. Major disappointment for such a small venue. Always had amazing experiences at other events at the casinos.
