Stuart McLean delivers a Seasonal staple

by Ottawabunch on 2014-12-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Stuart long ago forged his brand of live story telling that resonates with humor wrapped in genuine warmth and charm. His show, as always, glows with facets of spontaneous wit and eclectic musical guests. Again, I walked away feeling very good about experiencing this Christmas tradition in person.

    Vinyl Cafe Golden again

by Rowbear on 2014-12-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Stuart McLean and company were outstanding again. This show has become our go-to Christmas activity and we are never disappointed. The stories, the up and coming musicians all add up to a wonderfully entertaining evening.

Between the music and the stories, Stuart always entertains the audience in grand style. His rapport with the audience is also noteworthy.

    Stuart McLean - Legend

by Pikbube on 2014-12-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I had always listened to Stuart McLean and The Vinyl Cafe on the radio and enjoyed it. Seeing the Christmas concert in person amplified the enjoyment experience a thousand times! It was like spending time with an old friend. I'll be doing the same thing next year when Stuart McLean is in town.

    Vinyl Café did not disappoint!

by louEmi on 2014-12-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Stewart McLean was excellent! A great and funny story teller. Was also a wonderful treat to be introduced to Chic Gamine. Had us in stitches all night and a must see over the Holiday Season!

Stuart is terrific! Some musical numbers were not as enjoyable as bass sound was much too strong - main song by Chic Gamine especially - I could not make out a single lyric as they were so overwhelmed by drums and guitar - we downloaded the song from iTunes at intermission to hear how it was supposed to be! Hope the NAC was able to adjust sound for the other shows.

    Excellent holiday entertainment

by beachbird on 2014-12-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Stuart McLean was funny and engaging, just like he is on the radio, and the music was very good (Chic Gamine). And of course the NAC is a fantastic venue to see any show. This will definitely become a new Christmas tradition!

    Funny, warm, delightful!

by NostalgicM on 2014-12-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

This was our second visit to Stuart MacLean's Christmas and I'm sure it will become an annual tradition. It's like meeting an old friend and catching up. The stories were the highlight, of course, and the music provided by the back-up trio and by Chic Gamine was wonderful. Please keep Stuart coming!

Have followed Stuart on CBC since Gzowski's 'This Country in the Morning", but this is the first time seeing him in person. Wonderful! Folksy as ever, and something about the way he winds his legs around each other just adds to the folksiness! SOOO Canadian. Loved it!

    Stuart McLean Invites You In

by NanieC on 2014-12-18Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

Going to a Stuart McLean evening is just like he has invited you to his home for an evening of story-telling and entertainment. Each year we have been, it has been a different music guest and each year they have been great.

    Stewart McLean's Vinyl Cafe Christmas

by ArtHistEd on 2014-12-18Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

The entire show was fun & entertaining. We had our 13 year old grandson with us and he was laughing & clapping as much as we were! Stewart's stories are always memorable and his highlighted Canadian music and musicians are top notch.

Show format is becoming stale for returning patrons. Music quality is high but similar year-to-year. John Sheard is talented but plays similar selections; have listened to 3 female vocalists for a number of concerts. The give-aways segment could be shorter - or Stuart needs to develop new patter.
