About

Styx have endured for over five decades while staying true to their progressive rock sound and theatrical live show. Since releasing their self-titled debut in 1972, Styx have sold over 54 million records worldwide between 17 studio albums, 16 compilations and nine live recordings. Notably, the band released four consecutive RIAA-certified multi-platinum albums between 1977’s The Grand Illusion, 1978’s Pieces of Eight, 1979’s Cornerstone and 1981’s Paradise Theatre, the last of which became their first to top the Billboard 200. Across their career, Styx earned eight Top 10 singles on the Hot 100, including the chart-topping “Babe” as well as “Come Sail Away” “Mr. Roboto” and their 1990 comeback single “Show Me the Way.” Despite several hiatuses and lineup changes, Styx have become one of rock’s most consistent touring acts, hosting nearly 100 live shows every year for over two decades and netting career-best earnings on massive co-headlining tours with REO Speedwagon, Foreigner and Def Leppard. In 2021, Styx released their seventeenth studio album, Crash of the Crown.

    Still Rockin'

by Nortile on 2009-09-12River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

When on your way to an event to see older performers, you always wonder whether it had been better to stay home. Well that wasn't the case with STYX. They put on a memorable show. They still had the energy and the drive to give their audience a night to remember.

    Unbelievable!! Unforgettable!!

by bluesader on 2009-09-11River Cree Resort & Casino - Edmonton

This was one of the greatest concerts I've ever been to. They rocked the River Cree Venue from start to finish of the concert! They played a lot of their greatest hits album as well as some of the stuff you don't hear too often which gave it a definite A++ in my books! I'd go again in a second!

Styx seems to get better every time I see them

I started listening to these guys in the 80's and have seen them in concert 3 times now. They seem to be getting better with time.

    Styx was Awesome!!!

by 1KRT on 2009-09-11River Cree Resort & Casino - Edmonton

Styx hasn't lost a step. Tommy Shaw and the rest of the guys were amazing. Gowan's voice was perfect. Styx's version of his 1984 hit "Criminal Mind" was great as was their cover of the Beatles' "I Am The Walrus". My wife and I had a great time. We really enjoyed the show a lot.

It was a hot night on the river STYX!

by Jazz17 on 2009-09-11River Cree Resort & Casino - Edmonton

STYX put on an awesome show at the River Cree Casino! Everyone was in fine form and fine voice and it was possibly the best outing of the four I've seen, in the last two years in Northern Alberta. Lots of Gowan, which was a treat for the Canadian audience, but was balanced off by the rest of the band. Along with that came some of the songs they do not perform often, such as Lady and Suite Madame Blue--another treat for those of us who have seen them a lot lately. And, to top the evening off, original band member, Chuck Panozzo, made the trip up North to see and entertain Edmontonians. It was great to see the band honour one of their own crew members, Jimmy Johnson (sp?), on his birthday by bring him out and having the crowd surprise him by singing "Happy Birthday." This band rocks, and is still around after so many years not only for their great music, but because they spare no effort in entertaining their fans. Kudos to them!

Styx: most enthusiasm in a long time!

by DerryC on 2009-09-11River Cree Resort & Casino - Edmonton

The show was the awesome; one of the best. I have been to several different shows, including ACDC, Metallica, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest, but this one was a very good show. I attribute this to many different reasons. The first reason is that it obviously showed they had and still have a passion for music and pleasing their fans. Secondly, they may have been a band that is not to well known in my circle of friends, but they made the show big. The third reason, they all showed so much enthusiasm for being there. I have been to many a concert where they are just standing there and play their instrument. It takes talent to move around and play your instrument, so I applaud them all.

    Styx classic!

by bluedragon on 2009-09-10River Cree Resort & Casino - Edmonton

Really enjoyable. Along with Styx songs Gawon and Tommy Smith played a few of their solo career songs. I was disappointed that more of Styx most popular song were not performed.

Styx was a great Blast from the Past

by dandyD on 2009-09-10River Cree Resort & Casino - Edmonton

This band still has it. Lots of energy and still appear to have a lot of fun performing. Played some of their all time greats to perfection. Lawrence Gown added a great Canadian twist to the night and his antics, great vocals and keyboard mastery were appreciated by the crowd. A great night.

I cant remember a better time at a concert in a very long time. Keep rockin boys, you still got it!!!

    Styx Rocks The River Cree

by mrbelmead on 2009-09-10River Cree Resort & Casino - Edmonton

A very enjoyable performance. I was curious how the absence of Dennis DeYoung would affect the band, but Lawrence Gowan is an able replacement. Still, a number of popular DeYoung songs were not performed at the concert: Babe, The Best of Times, Mr Roboto, Don't Let It End, to name a few. I also did not hear Tommy Shaw's Boat On The River. Gowan's solo performance of A Criminal Mind was a highlight. Styx is a retro group, but the mostly middle age crowd lapped it up.

by EMMASMUM on 2009-09-10River Cree Resort & Casino - Edmonton

Can`t BELIEVE HOW GOOD THIS WAS!!!!! I was a Styx fan back in th 70`s and thought it would be fun to see the band. It was ROCKIN`!! Everybody had SO much fun! Every bit as good as on the records from back then. Those guys should be playing REXALL, not River Cree! My husband went along thinking he was doing me a favor and instead it looks like I was doing HIM one!! He LOVED it!! S O glad we went. That piano guy Gowen is S O talented and obviously S O entertaining along with a FABULOUS voice! (I think I have a crush on him...shhh...don`t tell my husband!!) THANK YOU S O MUCH FOR A GREAT EVENING! ROCK ON!!!!

by Stinger on 2009-09-10River Cree Resort & Casino - Edmonton

What can I say, words couldn't express how amazing the STYX concert was....that was my first time ever seeing them and they were as great as their recorded music. L.Gowan and Todd Sucherman fit in perfectly with the band. I saw Todd here at AXE MUSIC for his drum clinic, what a terrific drummer! Like I said words can't describe how amazing these guys played together with their sound, great harmony....kudos! *****+ for me

    Styx was fantastic!

by Meadow on 2009-09-10River Cree Resort & Casino - Edmonton

The first time I saw Styx in concert I was 16 years old. They came to Kelowna, B.C in 1977. and played an unforgettable show. I loved their music then and I love it now. Never would I have realized that I would be 48 years old and going back for more of their exceptional songs! I really loved that they played a lot of their old stuff, i.e. Lady, Lorelei and Prelude 12/Sweet Madame Blue. And of course, the icing on the cake, Crystal Ball. When Tommy Shaw started singing, the tears just rolled down my face. Way back in 1977, I won their Crystal Ball album from a radio station, you know; being the 10th caller. The album is framed and stands on my bedroom wall to this day! I would say I listen to Styx at least once a day and never in my wildest dreams would I have realized, that more than 30 years later, I would be going to their concert, screaming and clapping and having a wonderful time. Styx, you are better than ever. Thanks for giving me one of the best nights of my life! The solos at the end were amazing. They are truly masters of their craft and they played and looked liked they stilled loved making music and sharing their songs.
