SWOLLEN MEMBERS IN CONCERT:

Canadian hip-hop innovators Swollen Members kept it flowing in 2014 with the release of their 11th studio album Brand New Day. MCs Madchild and Prevail continue to spit fire over Rob the Viking's crisp productions, and the trio's adrenaline-filled live shows take songs like "Power" and "King of Diamonds" to new heights. Whether they're hyping up the crowd with deep cuts or leading sing-alongs on favorites like "Warrior", Swollen Members never fail to unleash on their must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Swollen Members formed in Vancouver in 1992, originally consisting of vocalist Moka Only and rappers Madchild and Prevail.  The group spent several years cutting their teeth competing in rap battles and releasing underground 12-inch singles before dropping their 1999 debut LP Balance. The album featured collaborations with Everlast, Dilated Peoples and was a hit with critics, earning the Juno Award for Best Rap Recording upon its 2001 re-release. Producer Rob the Viking joined the fray in 2002 for the release of Monsters in the Closet, which cracked the Canadian charts at No. 7 and went on to receive gold certification from the RIAA. A string of acclaimed albums followed throughout the '00s, resulting in extensive touring with acts like Kottonmouth Kings and Bills 'n' Eso. With the highly anticipated release of the band's 11th studio album Brand New Day in 2014,Swollen Members have ticket buyers eagerly awaiting their next tour.

Good show if you have time

I enjoyed the show overall. However!! I was was so tired by the end...I didn't care if there was a encore. Four opening acts...was too much.. Swollen members didn't even get on stage until 12:45. Too many jump, jump, jump, jump, YO Yo YO YO and not enough singing the songs. I was happy they played old tunes and a few from the new album. Swollen could do a little less party in the back and more in front. The Ticket price was great at $20.00

Opening acts are really great! S.W should step it up a bit more to ensure they're the ones that should be headlining this act. Great show. Go see it. DON'T miss the opening acts.

    Exceptionally Egotistical

by putty016 on 2009-11-13The Red Room - Vancouver

The show started at 8pm and from there on out it became the audience’s job to wait until 1230pm until Swollen Members graced us with their presence. The opening act seemed to have some talent, but the microphones of the three rappers were all out of sync in terms of volume, which made their set hard to bare. The second act, Big B from Las Vegas, was very entertaining and in my opinion the redeeming factor for my horrible experience. From the moment he came out he put on an energetic show, which the audience really got into. The other rap group from Sydney was also good, but by 1045pm when they came on, the audience wanted to see the band they paid for. So in all fairness they did not have a fair shake. From 1145 to 1230 when Swollen Members finally came on, people began to slowly file out of the venue, as a lone DJ seemed to have been thrown into the position of keeping the audience occupied. The poor DJ had to continually announce that the band was on their way, and that they were almost here. My question, which is a fair one, why aren’t they here? I after all paid to see them. By the time they came on stage it was 1230 and I had had enough, I stayed for one song and then decided that this band does not deserve my respect or the satisfaction of having me view them. I can put up with arrogance from musicians but this was over the top. Seeing their sports car parked out front as I exited the venue justified my decision to leave. Regards. Putty...
