    kids loved it!

by austinbella on 2011-09-13The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

We took our 2 and 5 year olds and they absolutely loved it. They knew a lot of the songs and it kept their attention. We bought them each a Backyardigans stuffy, which was reasonably priced at $15. Overall, a great show and I'm glad we spent the money on it. The kids are still raving about it three days later.

    Backyardigans

by Anonymous on 2011-09-13The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Don't have intermissions at kids shows. Don't allow kids to be in the isle ways as its distracting for other kids to have to sit in their seats. Don't have signs of other characters like Toopy and Binoo at a Backyardigans show, it's too distracting and the kids don't understand why they aren't their too. The show needs more action, one character on stage talking isn't enough. The stage should have had more props. The staff at the Centre for Performing Arts were the friendliest The seats at the Centre really are great.

    Kids loved it!

by PabloToo on 2011-09-13Bell Performing Arts Centre - Surrey

I have a 5 and 6 year old, and they both loved it. The dancing, singing, and props were great. They were both very disappointed when it ended. The only thing that I would like to see changed - is maybe ask parents to put the flashing light toys off during the show as it really is distracting!

    Disappointed

by Tolla on 2011-09-13Bell Performing Arts Centre - Surrey

Found the show boring with little substance. Our four year old was bored and our 2 year old got into it at the end when some kids were dancing. Lack of wow moments, too much script not enough action. Nothing like the cartoon!!!

    SAVE YOUR MONEY -- DISAPPOINTING

by CJLAPLANTE on 2011-09-12Bell Performing Arts Centre - Surrey

One the positive side, my 4 year old loved it. She clapped for the singers after every song. But my 6 year old was thoroughly bored, and wanted to leave at intermission. As a parent, I was disappointed. I love "The Backyardigans" on TV, and will watch it with the kids. But the stage show was unimaginative. They sang songs from various different TV episodes, and tied them together for the alien search. But even the aliens failed to meet the cuteness factor of the TV episode "Boinga, Boinga." The stage changes were poor, and overall, I was unhappy with the experience. (I loved the Franklin stage show before, and expected this one to be more comparable. Sadly, it failed). Overall, I would not recommend this show.

    Eh, it was okay

by mollydogsmom on 2011-09-12Bell Performing Arts Centre - Surrey

My daughter liked it okay (not great) but as a parent who has also taken my child to The Wiggles and Yo Gabba Gabba, I expected more - especially for the price tag. The characters 'lips' aren't moving and the only real live thing was Martia. The Boinga was weird with the person dressed in all black behind it and I think scared my 3.5 year old a little bit. The props were too minimal. The front few rows should actually be blocked off as the kids can't see over the stage to see the characters.

    Backyardigans

by Grandmotherof4 on 2011-09-12Bell Performing Arts Centre - Surrey

5 year-old thought it was okay, not as good as 'Max & Ruby'. 3 year-old warmed up to it eventually and even danced at the end.

    Good for the age group

by Tyesmama on 2011-09-12Bell Performing Arts Centre - Surrey

As an adult who paid for 3 tickets for my son, husband and I to go to my sons first live show, I was quite disappointed in the quality of the show. As a child my son had a blast!! and love the characters!! (which is the main thing for me). I found the show to be quite low budget, the props were very unrealistic (Ive been to highschool plays with more extravagant props) The voices were spot on which I think is improtant, and the characters looked like they were supposed to (however looked dirty and a little worn). The prop people and backstage help didnt seem to care if they were seen on stage or not, so that was kinda a throw off and unprofessional. They had an intermission (which I think is expected) but I noticed once they came back to the show, the kids were expected to have remembered where they left off, instead of integrating back into it. and then it was soon over. 80% of the kids had melt downs after the intermission, so maybe next time no intermission, or a shorter one. Overall: Negative: poor quality props, unprofessional backstage help, too long of an intermission, pay less for each ticket (for the show we got), should have given the kids the opportunity to get their pics taken with the characters. Positive: The voices sounded spot on, quite active.

Cartoon did not translate into a live show well.

by n7k1 on 2011-09-12Bell Performing Arts Centre - Surrey

If you're a fan of the Backyardigans cartoon, you'll be disappointed by the live show. The cartoon has a lot of entertainment value. Every episode, as predicatable as they are, is almost like a mini-movie. However, this did not translate into a live show very well. The characters mouths do not move so it's like watching a giant puppet show. Also, there is this character called "Boinga Boinga". He is basically a doll with an actor dressed in black holding him up and moving his arms and legs around. I know this is just a kids show - but the set quality and production value could have been better.
