The New York Times calls it "the best musical of this century." The Washington Post says, "It is the kind of evening that restores your faith in musicals." And Entertainment Weekly says, "Grade A: the funniest musical of all time." Jon Stewart calls it "a crowning achievement. So good it makes me angry." It's The Book of Mormon, the nine-time Tony Award® winning Best Musical.

BOM is cleverly written, is both subtle and obvious, sentimental and serious, numerous moments of hilarity, excellent music and dancing, huge kick-ass political messages, lots of shock moments, takes a number of strips off religion in general and the Mormon church in particular, and ends with human redemption. Beautiful. We had difficulty making out all the words in songs (We had seats in the first loge box, might be better in the main section or back further.). So, by all go if you can get tickets, Note. This show is not for prudes or uptights, although most of the swearing is about what you hear while waiting for a bus outside the Rideau Center,
Unfortunately we did not conduct our due diligence prior to purchasing tickets to this show. The entire presentation exceeded the most outrageous possibility for the telling of a story. While the opening 15 minutes was cute and interesting the play sunk to absurd depths once the storyline moved to Uganda in Africa. The premise of using the most vulgar possible form of the English language constantly for the full balance of the show is something that caused me considerable discomfort despite the fact that I am not overly religious or immune from using occasional vulgarities. This story could have easily been presented in a very humorous way with minimal use of the f bomb for a good effect. The creators of this stupid spectacle go so far as to write a song based on the expression F... Y.. God. Since taking in this very poor excuse for a stage show, I have advised all friends and family to avoid it entirely.
Book of Mormon was FANTASTIC!!! There was never a dull moment and I would see it over and over again. I'm still singing songs from it.
Unfortunately the sound was bad at the Wednesday evening performance at the NAC making it difficult to comprehend the words so I felt like I missed a lot. Our whole party of 6 had an issue with the sound. At first I thought it was my hearing! The show was funny, totally politically incorrect though not offensive and if not for the cost I would love to see it again for the many things I missed.
Singing and dancing was very good, however the humour not the best, if you were able to understand. Did not like the vulgar language, not for young children for sure!! Sorry but would not recommend.
The show was funny, and the venue just beautiful. Love Detroit Opera House
not sure I would recommend it to others. When I was in New York last year taking the on off bus tour, when we went by the theater where Book of Mormon was playing the bus guide said that this was a must see play. My curiosity was pique as I know it won a bunch of Tony awards. The production was well done, the singing was phenomenal, but some of the story content was not necessary. I am glad that I saw it would not sure I would recommend to others.
The Book of Mormon is a fantastically hilarious look at the Mormon church!!!
Hilarious and well cast play. Funny but not offensive. Sets and costumes were well down. Laughed as this is a play that you leave feeling like you have escaped for a few hours.
Very well written and funny play. If you found South Park or Team America offensive or are sensitive to strong commentary on organized religion, this is NOT the play for you but if anything goes, Book of Mormon is money and time well spent. Pantages Theater is beautiful as well.
The play was enjoyable, but since the seats were so poor it made it much harder to see and hear. I would think twice about ever going to this Theater again. Unless you are going to buy seats on the main floor don't bother.
This was a highlight of our trip to New Orleans. The warnings are accurate as the language and several of the themes will be offensive to some. However the majority of the audience (including ourselves) had an amazing time. We laughed until we cried. The Saenger Theatre was a beautiful venue. Our only (minor) complaint is that we could not always follow the words of the female lead (Nabulungi) when she sang.
Fast moving enjoyable with good music, voices and acting.
Book of Mormon was fantastic. Hilarious and well performed. Not for people easily offended though as it is very vulgar and heavy in sexual content. Definitely NOT politically correct! And believe it or not quite educational. If you don't know anything about Mormonism you will get quite a lesson, all you need to know about how the religion was founded and their "beliefs"
The show was solid - but I will never be back to the Shea Performing Arts Center
Very funny show and very true to the South park tradition. They had to pause the show a few times to let the laughter die down enough to hear the actors. Really hate the super high "convenience" charge from ticket master . they should only have 1 charge per group of tickets...not per ticket. They are thieves who must be stopped..
Our daughter and family saw The Book of Mormon twice in New York because they loved it that much! They went us to the Fisher Thearer in Detroit and that evening was disappointing. The sound made the words very difficult to understand so all we could easily hear were the spoken words, not the songs. If i had known, I would never have paid the expensive price to hear it.
The Book of Mormon is something to experience. The cast was amazing, the songs are catchy (though you wouldn't want to sing most out loud in public), the sets are fantastic and the show is super fun. It is horrifyingly offensive in parts but awesome at the same time. Really glad I saw it!
