About

The Chicks are one of country music’s most influential and boundary-pushing groups. Formed in Dallas, Texas, in 1989 by sisters Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire, The Chicks (formerly known as the Dixie Chicks) rocketed to pop stardom with the addition of lead vocalist Natalie Maines in 1995. The multi-platinum trio would go on to win 12 Grammy Awards and become the best-selling female band of all time in the U.S., with 33 million albums sold worldwide. By blending honky-tonk with bluegrass and soaring pop vocals, The Chicks appealed to a diverse audience that stretched far beyond their country roots. Signature hits like 1999’s “Cowboy Take Me Away” and 1998’s “Wide Open Spaces,” along with their bluegrass virtuosity, saw The Chicks go from opening for Tim McGraw in 1999 to headlining massive concert tours that have sold over $100 million in tickets. 2020’s Gaslighter (produced by Jack Antonoff) was The Chicks’ first album in 14 years, and the catalyst for a 2023 tour where country-pop superstar Maren Morris will join the trio on a string of dates.

  • Dixie chicks were great

by Mimaw on 2017-04-20FirstOntario Centre - HamiltonRating: 3 out of 5

The girls were great, alot of fun but could have played alot more songs. Maybe they were tired at the end of their tour. and needed more breaks However to many breaks, were late getting on stage. Had 2-20 minute breaks Was at a concert the week before and the band played for 2.5hrs. No breaks Been once don' t think i need to go again for that kind of money when you get less than 2 hours of music They didnt really involve the crowd at all

  • Loved it!

    by O12345 on 2017-04-20FirstOntario Centre - HamiltonRating: 4 out of 5

This was the first concert that we've been to in years. When DCX announced they would be in the area, we just had to get tickets! Despite a slow start (about 30 minutes) to switch over the stage between opening act and start of the DCX concert, overall it was a great concert. The music and singing was crisp and clear. Video wall background was excellent! They played fan favourites and a few new songs as well. Wonderful tribute to Prince too. Glad to hear they're not staying stagnant. Overwhelmingly, the concert was attended mostly by women. DCX is a great voice for women's rights and I'm proud to stand with them.

  • As Close To Perfect As You Can Get

So much talent! Sound even better live than they do recorded. These chicks are doing what they love and it shows. Outstanding concert.

  • Horrible sound ruined good concert

    by unhappyfan17 on 2016-10-12Sasktel Centre - SaskatoonRating: 2 out of 5

The bass and drums were so loud there was nothing left to hear. Let my ears sore after the first couple songs, ruining the evening. I saw the Chicks in BC in 2013 and it was great - was able to hear the singing and melodies, and their fiddle, etc. unlike this concert. Even when they were only speaking, the sound had an echo-like, muffling quality to it, making it difficult to understand much of what was being said. The opener (E King) looked as drunk/high as she joked about being, and I found it to be the worst act I've seen. Had I known the poor sound wasn't just the opening, I likely would have left. Hopefully the Chicks will go back to the proper sound expected of them as a country/pop band rather than trying to blare bass/drums at their fans. Note that while Natalie may be embarking on a rock career where this is to be expected, their core fans want to hear them with the music. Other than the horrible sound, the stage and screen was pretty neat, but also a distraction from watching them perform. Wish they would have had larger side screens, and that the director would have rotated more evenly among all 3 of the Chicks and the whole stage in general rather than having such a large focus on just Natalie - while she's the lead singer, there are 3 of them. The background displays, initial set up for the beginning of their show, and the set up for the few songs at the front of the stage were the only redeeming qualities to bump it up from 1 star to 2. Not to mention - what band/singer doesn't offer cds as part of their merchandise? Not everyone wants a shirt or bottle cozy. First time I've been to a concert where the main performer(s) didn't offer a cd on sale.

  • A little loud

by Tangoma on 2016-10-12SaskTel Centre (Formerly Credit Union Centre) - SaskatoonRating: 4 out of 5

First time seeing the Chicks live. It was a lot loud. I thought it was just me at my age but since I have heard from others that it was loud. The music was good. I'd say the showmanship was not there. Not quite enough interaction with the crowd to really draw you in.

Music was way too loud unable to hear singing. Prob the worst concert I have been too in saskatoon Can't believe sound wasn't fixed in rehearsal

  • DCX World Tour MMXVI

by Jaynetty on 2016-10-06Rogers Place - EdmontonRating: 3 out of 5

We saw this concert in the new Rexall place. Unfortunately the acoustics are not as good as the old coliseum. I found Elle King to be rather boring...but the Chicks put on a reasonable show. Would recommend the show...but not at Rexall place. :(

  • Dixie Chicks are Memorable!

Elle King as opener is fantastic! Then the Dixie Chicks put on a flawless show that was so great!!! Highly recommend - the show was so much fun and the musical ability is so impressive and enjoyable:)

  • Acoustic set was good

The Dixie Chicks concert was very good other than at times their band was louder than the chicks singing and playing. We also had some inconsiderate young people behind us who preferred to talk rather than enjoy the music.

Great concert! The sound was a bit muffled, but good none the less. I love it loud so I don't hear people singing around me. Again, getting into and out of the parking lot was great again!! Thank you Sask Place for finally getting it right for the last few concerts!!!

  • Sound was terrible

by MusicILike on 2016-10-05SaskTel Centre (Formerly Credit Union Centre) - SaskatoonRating: 2 out of 5

This is one of my favourite groups, and the last time they played in this same venue was one of my all time favourite concerts. This concert, however, and right from the start of the canned music prior to the Chicks stepping on stage, was best described as "disappointing". While the talent of the three artists and the accompanying musicians was very evident, and the quality of the songs performed was tremendous, the night was spoiled by the volume of sound in the venue. After the first five or so songs, I felt close to deaf relative to being able to hear any nuances/harmonies in the music. By the middle of the concert, I felt like all my senses were under attack! I stayed to the edn in the hopes that adjustments would be made, but never did happen. Disappointing!!!

  • Help

by TheMamma on 2016-10-05Rogers Place - EdmontonRating: 1 out of 5

I was disappointed. Dixie Chics are one of my favourite groups. They have the most amazing vocals and all of them are very talented instrumentalist. IT WAS TOO LOUD. It was so loud that it actually hurt my ears. You could not hear their voices other than the short set that they did alone. I hope it was a one of thing. Would really like to get to know them better as a group.

  • Dixie Chicks great performers!

by Chance2 on 2016-10-05SaskTel Centre (Formerly Credit Union Centre) - SaskatoonRating: 4 out of 5

I was very disappointed in the sound. I found the music was louder than their voices. I enjoyed the Dixie Chicks more on their last visit to Saskatoon. We had excellent seats so for that price I won't go back.

  • Very Bad Soud

  • Piercing Sound

by KellyReimer on 2016-10-05SaskTel Centre (Formerly Credit Union Centre) - SaskatoonRating: 2 out of 5

I have been to several concert events at this venue and not all were perfect but this concert was terrible. In fact we had to leave after the 5th song. In fairness to the Dixie Chicks it was nothing they did and from what we seen they seemed to put on a fabulous show, but the sound was extremely poor. The higher frequencies were so over powering and loud we could not stay. My wife was getting dizzy and it felt like some one was stabbing needles into my ears. Very disappointing. It was one of the more expensive concert tickets I've purchased and was the least enjoyable.

by Anonymous on 2016-10-05Rogers Place - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

The Dixie Chicks haven't lost a step - if anything, they are better than ever. What a fabulous show. And Elle King was a delight as well.
