Buy the album, skip the show

by Jamesylips on 2014-02-07Commodore - Vancouver

I really really like this band but their performance in Vancouver was disengaging. The one moment when I thought all would be redeemed the lead singer started a song acoustic by himself showcasing his enormous talent. At the end when I was expecting the rest of the band to start the harmonies they cut it short. They did not talk to the audience except to say that this was their 2nd last performance of their very very long tour and they were exhausted ok? Don't expect much. This was the most pretentious, lame and tired performance I have seen any band muster. Don't waste your money! Unless you want lullabies played loudly. It's too bad because their recorded music is still some of the best.

    Dandy Warhols

by delboytrotter on 2013-06-07The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Have seen them 5 times in 4 different cities, this is probably the best yet. I would pay the same money to see these guys do an acoustic set without all the lights etc. Interesting to see how they have all changed but stayed the same in the last year. The crowd were great. Loved seeing them in Montreal last year, but this venue and people do the band far more justice.

    Dandy's Rule, Oh yes.

by fishmum on 2012-06-06The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

A little older, a little wiser. Dandy Warhols did not fail to please Sunday night at the Phoenix Concert Theatre. Previewing songs from their recently released 'This Machine,' the Dandy's plowed through almost two hours of new and familiar material from their extensive catalogue. There's something about a Sunday night in Toronto that brings out the band's earnest best and warmth. For the second year in a row the Dandy's opted to finish their set and not leave the stage to subject their crowd to a lengthy clapping-hooting session, rather to stay and play a few more tracks and let their audience get home before midnight. Zia was again particularly magnanimous about welcoming and thanking a Sunday night crowd...it's as if the band, too, realize that there's a week of work ahead and a night's sleep required. New material was catchy and instantly familiar. Sad Vacation, The Autumn Carnival, I am Free and (my new favourite) Rest Your Head showcased the Dandy's lulling and yet energizing sound. Old favourites; Boys Better, I Love You (from Come Down) played like warm sweaters on a cold night. Courtner Taylor-Taylor was in fine voice and earned his keep as he always does. Zia was her radiant self, banging out time on her tamborine and zombifying the crowd with her hypnotic keyboards. A Sunday evening well-spent.

Everyday should be a Dandy day

by JonnyTO on 2012-06-05The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Outstanding. The Dandy's are the last real rock stars and as usual put on an unforgetable show. The sound was the best I've ever heard at The Phoenix.

    Dandy's Don't Disappoint

by tiki16 on 2012-06-05The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Dandy's warhols show was a good one the second time around. I saw them in Oct 2010 and would go see them again. The beginning of the show a little slower with some trippy stuff. As the show wore on they played more of there memorable tunes. i was close to the stage and everyone around was having a good time.

    The Dandy's Rule, Ok?

    by Ash888 on 2010-12-06Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I've seen this band play live twice, and both times they were amazing! The Commodore is the perfect venue for live bands, and the Dandy's rocked the intimate setting. Even though they have been around for a while (since '93), the Dandy Warhols still know how to put on a great show! If you're a fan, they are a must-see live!

    Dandy Dandy Warhols

by fishmum on 2010-11-03The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Monday night was the fifth time I've seen The Dandy Warhols and, although the 'concert crowd' energy was noticeably weakened (we'd just had a weekend culminating with Halloween the night before) the band delivered its Capitol Records' tunes with much aplomb. Courtney Taylor-Taylor was in, perhaps, his finest voice that I've ever seen him and keyboardist Zia McCabe danced, posed and bated the audience with her zeal and allure all evening. The Capitol years were kind to the Warhols and many of their songs from that time were the ones that made me a true Dandy's fan, particularly the songs from Come Down. (their second effort) The Phoenix Club was packed and the band were gracious in their thanks that so many came out to enjoy them on a Monday night after such a busy weekend. Taylor stopped the proceedings long enough to announce the San Francisco Giants' World Series victory over (as he put it) 'the George Bush owned money-grubbing right-wing war mongering' Texas Rangers. Most songs were delivered with a swirling psychedelic approach yet Taylor's vocals were clear, upbeat and delivered with a knowing nod and a wink. The band was so in tune with their audience that they chose to forego the typical 'band-leaves-stage-waits-for encore' moment and simply stated that they would stay out and let their fans get the full set without interruption. The gesture was well received and everyone went home happy, if not a little bleary.
