    Great music and highly entertaining!

by Shazzawazza on 2009-07-16Pantages Playhouse Theatre - Winnipeg

This concert was just terrific! I had gone to see the blind Boys was blown away by Ruthie Foster. Such great music - even some funk to get everyone groovin'! At first I wasn't sure what to expect with the Blind Boys being so well seasoned in age, but boy were they a hoot - and funny! This show was so much fun you just felt great leaving the venue.

    Ruthie Foster made the night

by DogGuy on 2009-07-16The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Wasn't happy with the blind boys. Too much time talking and trying to push their CDs. Ruthie Foster on the other hand was amazing. Wicked voice, great smile, and awesome demeanor.

Ruthie Foster and The Blind Boys of Alabama

by PenMar on 2009-07-16Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Ruthie Foster was the hit of the night! She opened for The Blind Boys of Alabama and it was as though she was the main act. I would go to a concert of hers anytime. The Blind Boys of Alabama were great too but somewhat diminished by Ruthie Foster's talent and charismatic on-stage presence.

Blind Boys and Ruthie Foster were excellent

by Robin247n on 2009-07-15Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Ruthie Foster is amazing, what an incredible voice, her bad was very tight, incredibly entertaining. The Blind Boys were awesome, for men of their age, they blew me away on how long they could stretch a note. All these years and they stil got it together, we were so happy with how good they are and what an excellent band they have too. If anyone ever has the chance to see Ruthie Foster or The Blind Boys, they should not walk but run down to the nearest ticket office and get tickets.

These guys put on one h**l of a show. We enjoyed every minute of it, sang along and look forward to the opportunity again. Amazing grace was an eyeopener we thought we new the song before. Now we know it better. Thanks for a great show!

    Ruthie was great!

by Dragon1 on 2009-07-15Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Ruthie Foster was great. She did not play long enough, so that was disappointing. The Blind Boys were like a walking, talking infomerchial. I did not enjoy the chit chat or the wandering through the audience. I would not recommend anyone go see the Blind Boys.

Ruthie Foster and Blind Boys were bright lights!

by DETKMB on 2009-07-15Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

This was the third time I saw Ruthie Foster in Edmonton - and she and her family band never disappoint. Amazing. Everytime I see her in concert, I buy four tickets and get 3 new friends to go, and everytime they thank me profusely. These women know how to rock! This was my first time seeing Blind Boys of Alabama and I was totally engaged from the get-go. They have an amazing ability to bond with the audience and the humour and stories they shared were great. Thank you, thank you, thank you for an AWESOME concert.

    Blind Boys and Ruthie Foster

by halftimeshow on 2009-07-15Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Very well put together show. Clean sounding and very decent volume; not excessive. bass was a bit washed out in both sets but I blame the room for that. Amazing performances by both acts. Full of life, energy and just fun!

    Ruthie Foster was excellent

by granny on 2009-07-15Pantages Playhouse Theatre - Winnipeg

Ruthie Foster gave a brillant performance. As much as I love watching the Blind Boys of Alabama I think they are unfortunately fading in their performance. The favorite part for me is when they come into the audience. At this concert only one of the group ventured out. I do realize it wasn't a great venue for them to do this. Their overall concert was lacking in the spark they usually display.

by kwwa on 2009-07-15Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

I went to this concert with very little knowledge of the Blind Boys of Alabama. I knew they were a gospel group. I loved the harmonys & authenticity of the music. Well worth the ticket price. Opening act was Ruthie Foster - amazing!

    Absolutely amazing!

by Ginseng on 2009-07-15Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Ruthie was great and an excellent complement to Blind Boys. Blind Boys were entertaining and I loved that they brought her back on stage to sing a song with them. I would without a doubt go see them both again either separately or together. A great time!!

    Blind Boys of Alabama

by quinn1950 on 2009-07-15Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

This was by far the most powerfully moving performance I have attended in years!! The audience was on its feet several times during the concert, and it was well-deserved. These "boys" sing from the heart and their sense of humor is priceless!

Blind Boys cools but Ruthie was awesome

by RobBull on 2009-07-15The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Blind Boys delivered a passionate but predictable performance. Having seen them before they followed virtually the same script but it is always a good time. The impressive part is that they played for 90 strong minutes. Ruthie Foster was limited to just an hour but what a voice and charisma! Wow. Top shelf and 5 out of 5 for Ruthie!

make a joyful noise unto the Lord

by jjtothemax on 2009-07-15Pantages Playhouse Theatre - Winnipeg

Lord have mercy! The Blind Boys of Alabama gave a soulful and soul stirring performance at the Pantages. They mixed engaging and humourous stage conversation with James Brown showmanship via sunday morning gospel preaching. Now to the uniiniated the word 'Preaching" may conjour up TV Evangalists hitting you over the head with "their" word of God. Not so with our Alabama breathern. Having a specific faith base in no way hindered there sweet harmonies, although it certainly added angelic aura to the evening. One of the definite highlights was the leader being taken through the theatre. The audience got to lay hands on the brother as he was lead up and down the aisles. This experience had the audience on their feet. This alone was great, but the power and connectivity of the opening act, the incomparable Ms. Ruthie Foster, made the "circle unbroken". Ruthie Foster has been a much loved and admired frequent flyer at the Winnipeg Folk Festival. So it was too surprizing to hear and see the warm Winnipeg welcome she was given. That warmth was well received by Ruthie and found its was into a stellar performance. Backed by a talented and well rounded group of musicians she hit all the right notes and vibes. So much so that one was left with the question how could anyone top that opening act. Well, thankfully the Blind Boys of Alabama were well up to that job. As a tip of the hat to Ruthie the boys got her on stage for a great cover of the Impression's 60's hit "People get Ready". Superlatives are often overused in the music biz. but in this case 'Oh Blind Brothers, and sister Ruthie' you sure kicked it, through the goal post of musical life.

    Love Ruthie and Blindboys!

by davec on 2009-07-15Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

We have enjoyed both Ruthie Foster and the Blindboys of Alabama previously and went for that reason. They are both great acts to see in person. We also regularly buy their music.

Ruthie Foster yes Blind boys no

by knoxoverstreet on 2009-07-15Pantages Playhouse Theatre - Winnipeg

Ruthie Foster was the best part of the evening, from start to finish she really showed us where she came from, and that's a good thing. from showing us her roots, songs that came from her church days as a youth to how that has matured into a voice that comes with heart and soul. anytime Ruthie's name comes up go and see her she will not dissappoint. with and entrance like that, I had expected something even bigger with the Blind boys. however, the show never gained momentum with the lead singer stopping to chat up the audience between each song. and chatting about nothing - only about how many awards they have won and how much they like to eat so you better buy their cd's - so there was always this block of time where you wind up waiting for the next song. sadly I realized these boys are great in the studio but do not translate well onto the live stage. I should add that this must be a recent thing on the count of when I saw them with Peter Gabriel in '05 they were great but they only did 3 songs - it really left us with wanting more. this time however I really was glad to go back and listen to them on my sterio, oh well I guess seeing is not believing.
