In 2022, The Gaslight Anthem returned to the stage for the first time in four years.
Unlike those shows (which celebrated the ten-year anniversary of their breakthrough LP The '59 Sound), last year's tour explored every corner of the band's discography in festival and headline dates around the world.
Having recorded their first album in nearly a decade and with a new single "Positive Charge" out now, these 2023 shows mark a new beginning for The Gaslight Anthem.
They sounded great!! Played all my fav songs and did an awesome job!
I loved it. If i wasn't so tired, and if i didn't feel like the Loved Ones were a combo of Green Day and Fall Out Boy I would have loved it even more.
In this media negotiated world of ipods, music downloading, and computer file sharing, it's bands like this, and a concert like last night, that makes me reaffirm my belief that the form of live music, of concert, of people bumping and enjoying music will live on. I loved the show. Their ingenious lyrics and soul sounds even better live. Very humble, very cool, very tight show. Coolest band ever.
the band sounds better than ever, loved ones were great too
Gaslight's performance last night was very good. They knew what we liked and played it all. I'm not a huge fan of "Sink or Swim", their debut album, so during those 4 tracks from it, I was polite and quiet. However, the band rocked out practically every song from their latest effort "The '59 Sound". The only thing that surprised, and minutely disappointed me, was that the beat was either the same, or even slower, than on the album. People were ready to jump and dance, yet they were tentative to take off. Why? Who knows. There seemed to be an inside joke running the course of their performance. The lead singer apologized a couple of times during the show, which caused the drummer to laugh hysterically. My guesses: One or more of the band members was intoxicated on booze or weed. Waiting for 3 openers would drive me to do the same, as well. Frank Turner was truly great. His songs were funny, catchy and he had quite a powerful sound for being a one-man-band. I wish I had left and done a lap downtown instead of listening to the next band: The Loved Ones. Loved by who? Not I. I know I'm not a teenager anymore and tend to sit back rather than be up at the front, but Lord why? Why have the sound SO loud that your eardrums are vibrating? It was ridiculous. To be fair, their tunes weren't that bad, but the volume made me cringe. Who did they think they were, Big Sugar? Murder by Death was pretty good. They were a good lead into Gaslight. I don't know if I'd come early next time though. 3 openers is pushing it.
We had a lot of fun. Saw them in Europe several times but we ll never get bored of them We love MIles Davis got the blues, but we personally think it was a little bit early for such a great song... greetings from the Germans Martin and Jo
The Gaslight Anthem never disappoints and last night they put on an unforgettable show at the Commodore! I saw them last spring and was just taken aback by the joy you could see on Brian's face as they performed. That joy was back and better than ever. It's an amazing experience to see people doing exactly what they are meant to be doing. For Gaslight, it sounds like that's performing their own legendary songs and making unforgettable shows.
