What started as the RPM Gold Leaf Awards in 1964 by RPM editor and publisher Walt Grealis and record label executive Stan Klees, soon became The JUNO Awards in 1971. Named in tribute to Pierre Juneau, the first chairperson of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), the JUNO Awards were founded to raise the public profile and recognition of musical artists in Canada.
The JUNO Awards has evolved from an industry awards event to a weeklong festival that travels city to city across the country. It encompasses both public-facing fan events and industry/networking opportunities featuring a diverse array of Canadian artists and emerging talent. In addition to The JUNO Awards Broadcast, JUNO Week event programming includes JUNO Songwriters' Circle, JUNOfest, JUNO Fan Fare, JUNO Cup, and more.
In 2002, The JUNO Awards went on the road to take the music to the fans and expanded its scope to include a series of public and private events outside of the Awards broadcast. Each host city has embraced their opportunity to support the JUNO Awards and build an enduring legacy of music programs in their market.

BNL 2 song set was perfect ending to a great show Michael Bubble was very Canadian
The live performances were fantastic. For the older people in the audience and the younger generations. There is some real talent in the Canadian Music Industry.
The show was great. From the begining to the end it got better and better. My only complaint was the host staff. Allowing people into their seats when a musical act was playing causing us to briefly miss the act. Then during the Gord Downie tribute, two (2) hosts stood below our row in the handicaped balcony chatting about there working assignments. I had to bang on the wall and ask them to be quiet. They looked at me like who do I think I was to ask them to be quiet. How inconsiderate I found the staff to be. Thumbs down to Rogers Arena and it's poorly trained staff.
The show and production quality was really good! Best performances were opening act Arcade Fire, Daniel Caesar and best newcomer Jessie Reyez.
Show was really good even though I couldn't see any of it even with the monitors.
The show was very disappointing. I may as well have been home watching it on TV and saved myself $400 The host was only on stage a few times and someone else announced most of it. Then during the commercial breaks there was nothing. No one came out to entertain us. Sometimes they showed video's of the host or someone else. I can watch that on Youtube. Really . it was very poor. At most award shows the host entertains the audience during the commercial breaks . That is why you go. You go to be entertained. The performers were wonderful. They entertained and were excellent. The rest was very disappointing. The woman beside me brought 3 of her daughters. She was furious and left early. We paid a lot of money to watch videos.
I bought my ticket as a Barenaked Ladies fan, excited to see my favourite band get inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. I was worried it was going to be a 4-hour affair, packed with all kinds of awards and performances I didn't care about. I was wrong. Most of the awards had been given out at the gala the previous night, so there were only a handful of trophies at the main event. The performances were EXCELLENT, and the whole thing was only 2 hours long. A+, high value, would attend again except for the fact that my leg cramped up later that night from a lack of legroom; I'm not a particularly tall person but man, Rogers, those seats are DINKY.
We took the whole family and got dressed up ! The whole event was a very fun happening ... great music!
This was a great venue to be a part of. I would recommend it to anyone to make a must to attend....not your average concert for sure!!!
Show was fast paced dispute timeouts for TV commercial breaks. The historical pictures of previous JUNO's was well done on screens in the arena.
Doors were open at 5pm - you had to kill 2 hours before the show even started. That's a LONG time to kill for a 2-hour show. It would have been nice if my friend had been offered a wheelchair when we arrived instead of having to walk up to the third floor and been offered one there - perhaps then we would have been allowed on the elevator (people crushed in and left us waiting many times so we gave up).
When we arrived at our seats in the Canadian Tire Centre - home of the Ottawa Senators - I frankly wondered how will they pull this off? The arena seats 19,500 and while some of those seats were sectioned off to make room for the stages, etc. there had to be at least 15,000 people there and we were high up. However, as soon as the show started we were on quite a ride from the electrifying opening by Buffy Saint-Marie and A Tribe Called Red to the final rocker, Summer of '69 with Bryan Adams taking the lead - The entire show was a great production; it didn't miss a beat (so to speak). The varied use of stages, lighting, pyrotechnics, big screens and solid sound made for a superb evening. I also observed how Baby Trudeau could work a crowd - no wonder the Conservatives look like long ago yesterday. Only complaint - exiting the parking lots - what a nightmare. Can Eugene Melnyk not concentrate on that issue?
The Junos did not disappoint. Great line up of performances and a good mix of awards and music.
We truly enjoyed the event. Brian and Russel were great hosts. I was sorry Michael couldn't be there though. Hopefully he will do 2018! The musicians were excellent ; Brian, Sarah, Alisa, Ruthb. Shawn, etc..... truly enjoyable. Only part we didn't like was all the 4 min commercial breaks! Other then that - truly amazing show all around.
Amazing job on the show its self.. but man way to many commercials... and they give you this lady to fill in the blanks she shows up 1 minute after the commercial starts and leaves about one minute before it ends... and does not really overly say anything to keep the crowd entertained. I would think for the number of commercials they put on they could have afforded someone to come up during the commercial breaks, be on time and keep the audience enteraint for the 3.5 minutes for each commecial. Other than that what a great show. Fix this next time and the rating would go through the roof for me... my would I recommend to a friend should be a maybe and I would explain to them they are about to sit through probably 20 commercials that are really blank air.
We had a wonderful evening at the Juno's. Took my daughter with me, it was the first time she had seen behind the scenes of a show been televised. Very well organized. Thank you for a wonderful evening. Would definitely attend again if it is in a town near us.
TO MUCH DOWN TIME SITTING WATCHING NOTHING HAPPENING DURING COMMERCIALS. DIDNT KNOW WHO MOST OF THE ARTISTS WERE. POOR INTRODUCTIONS.
My daughters attended the Juno and they had nothing but great reviews and they were in the 300 section.
