This performance was incredible! The music and dancing were unforgettable and I applaud all of the talented performers for their hard work!
I enjoyed this new AB Ballet production of The Sleeping Beauty, especially the spotlight dance routines of the secondary dancers. The background set was meant to represent the Canadian Rockies, but I found it too dull and drab looking. Also, the stage wide floor lighting at the front of the stage was too high and cut off the view of the dancers feet for those in the first few rows next to the stage. Unfortunately, we could not see the talented footwork of the dancers! Be sure to go over the story line found in the program, especially with children, so everyone knows what is happening, as their is no dialogue or overlaid story telling to the music.
The first thing that struck me as strange when i was seated was that the Philharmonic orchestra was not performing as part of the ballet. This immediately cheapened the performance. With the lack of an orchestra i thought the dancers would have been more in sync with the music and each other. This was not the case, the dancers were so out of sync it proved to be a significant distraction. Also the male dancers were severely mismatched with their female partners. Some of the male male dancers were under considerable strain trying to lift or support them as they spun. Finally, for whatever reason the frmale dancers were incredibly shaky when they were being supported by male dancers, like their arms and shoulders would violently shake.
We enjoyed the ballet. Wish we had better seats though as two tall people sat right in front of us making it hard to see. We also found it long, maybe needed to be 15 min shorter.
The sleeping beauty was an amazing ballet! The dancers were phenomenal and you could tell they were very passionate when they took the stage! Costumes and attention to detail were very evident! They put a lot of work into this production and it was well received!
Great performance, I always enjoy Alberta Ballet. Can’t wait to see the next new things that are performed
I expected more, more lifts, more jumps. The kiss was pathetic, on the forehead are we 10 years old? They should have done more with Malificent.it was long and not very exciting.
Enchanting! Costumes exquisite! Music relaxing! Ballet eloquent!
