    Not worth the money!

by Blondina on 2018-01-10Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

The lady who played Maria was horrible.she sounded like a disney princess. Thin high pitched voice.she seemed like she was always stressed.(Liesel was more mature than Maria)No depth to performance -one dimensional. Her singing voice was good. No romantic connection between her and captain. All songs were rushed. Nuns and children were off pitch at times. Sound kept cutting out. I’ve seen many high school performances better than this one. Waste of money and time!!

    Outstanding Musical Production

by sparkysings on 2018-01-10Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

My wife and I went to the Sunday Matinee performance and were blown away by this production. The sets were visually perfect for the scenes, the casting captured the the characters in a realistic way that created an instant connection with the characters and the singing was divine. At the end of the 1st part prior to Intermission the Mother Superior sang Climb Every Mountain and when she hit the high notes at the end of the song you could feel a shiver run through the audience. And finally, the musicians didn't miss a beat and brought this Musical to life an a way that only those most accomplished are able to

This could have been much better

by SOMFanatic on 2018-01-10Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

Well, first I must say the voices and singing were amazing, esp. Mother Superior (or whatever her name was). She gave us CHILLS... Everyone else did an amazing job with the singing part of the production. Unfortunately, the parts that really threw me were: 1) adding in 2 songs for Max and the "wife to be" that didn't belong. Don't mess with the original! 2) moving songs around - putting the puppet show in Maria's bedroom? What? Should've been My Favorite things there.... Putting My Favorite Things in the Abbey? What? That didn't belong.... Also, messing with a few other details that were KEYS in the movie... like when the family met the woman (can't remember her name for some reason!!!) - and they sang and one of the kids - Greta? - ran away crying - that was a major moment. Also - the scene after the performances was also messed up. In the first part especially I just kept going "what?" that doesn't belong, or "what? they didn't say or do that!" So as I say - the singing was first class. The production itself, well, they should have stuck more to the original. Having seen it 28 times, it threw me.

    An overall great performance!

by Stally on 2018-01-10Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

The Sound of Music is my all-time favourite movie, so I was greatly looking forward to seeing the musical live! I only have two negative comments: 1. The sound could have been louder. I struggled to hear/understand what they were saying sometimes, especially during songs. May have just been the venue/seats. 2. Maria was played with a sugary-Disney princess voice. Her singing voice is incredible, but the high pitched speaking voice made her sound nervous and unsure. Overall, I absolutely loved the performance! It was neat to hear two songs from the musical that aren't in the movie. The children were absolutely enchanting, and the Mother Abbess stole the show!

    Awesome Performance

by Asla on 2018-01-10Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

Although I am a HUGE fan of Sound of Music and knew I would love the show no matter what, this performance was absolutely excellent! The skill that was used to condense this movie with so many different scenerios into a 2 hour performance was really amazing.

The production was just okay. Nothing to write home about. Sitting on third level was terrible as a lot of the words were lost to us up there.

    Powerful and heart renching

by Dewster on 2018-01-10Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

Story line was right with it. The children most talented. Great rendition in the do re me song. How they all managed to sing it all together was amazing. How ever my high light and perhaps others would agree was the song Climb every mountain was sung. She did an amazing over and beyond performance. She literally brought the house to tears. I was in tears and I looked around and people of all ages where bringing their tissues out men and women. It hit a real cord and I could feel her singing go right thru me. Sensational! Bravo.

    Disappointed

by ramblingrita on 2018-01-09Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

The cast worked very hard in spite of appearing tired. They carried the show. There were stains on set props, delays in timing, and the set was sub-standard for what audiences expect for this level of performance and ticket price. I would not recommend it. I would, however, pay to see the cast in a concert. They carried the whole production.

The production was absolutely wonderful. The parking for the venues around there leave a whole lot to be desired. City should do something about it.
