    It was irie!

    by jandm9002 on 2014-03-22Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Three acts at the best venue in North America, can't be bad. First guy out, Sean Philip, one man band with the digierdoo. I thought he could have benefitted from having someone else playing acoustic for him part way through, only so much you can do with that. Purple Soul up next, excellent act, really great reggae, ska , etc. Horns, keyboards and everything else, I'll be going to see these guys again as they are a local act. The Wailers have it nailed down, very tight . I think maybe they would be even better if instead of using the huge keyboard set up they got themselves some horn players. It was kind of funny that the security went out and told everyone no smoking in The Commodore and the fire alarm went off for quite a while. My one complaint with The Commodore up is that they keep the volume up in between acts, tough to chit chat in between, maybe have it at 8 instead of 11. All in all a damn fun night out.

Was too late and too short

    by neoartistic1 on 2014-03-17Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

They did not come on until almost 12:30 and the 2 acts that came on before them were not very good. And on top of it all, the fire alarm went off through 2 of their songs!

    The Wailers made me cry

    by Reggae40 on 2014-03-17Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I usually end up shedding a tear at my favorite concerts because I am so stoked. I was so disappointed that I feel like I have to say to the Wailers, Stop! It's not right. They need a new singer, two more back up singers so it's not the I ones. And how about NOT playing the most played out , most popular songs that I didn't want to hear. There are sooooo many other killer songs that we would love to hear. It might have been the first time I left a concert early, in the middle of Redemtion song.

    reggae evening

by Dawgg on 2013-02-25Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

The opening act Shane Philip is a young talented artist from BC apparently. Shane plays the didddyjideroo Mabob, and Shane listen up , there is a reason this marginal musical instrument is played marginally, It becomes annoying after 15 minutes no matter how Zen you become with that thing. End of story. Stick with the 3 some vibe and create your energy there. then we waited for a 1/2 hour and buddy with a Loud Bob Marley t-shirt, announces to the sold out show crowd to be quiet for a half hour and listen/watch to the montage which pays reverence to Bob Marley. Fair enough, however I came to listen to Reggae, not the Learning channel and you don't tell a half drunk crowd at 10:30 at night to be quiet and watch/listen to my important montage. the dude was pretty full of himself. anyway , half/hour of this and by 11:15pm on came the Wailers to play the Survival album in its entirety. Started off solid, kind of like seeing the Doors without Jim Morrison, pretty good but its hard not to draw comparisons to the originator. funkin on the reggae!

great show, great musicians....could have done without the guy standing up there talking. Anyone that is a Marley / Wailers fan already knows all the words and the history.

    Frontman was apparently bored

by Lululu on 2011-05-29Bears Den At Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel - Niagara Falls

Duana Stephenson was awesome, but the other guy who was the frontman showed about as much enthusiasm as a flagman on the highway. Perhaps he was just bored. I don't know. His voice was great, but he had the look of someone who clearly wanted to be somewhere else. From the first song, he looked as if he couldn't wait to get the night over with. I'm not even sure that he introduced himself. A smile would have helped. When you're trying to enjoy yourself, it helps if the entertainer doesn't look as if he's waiting to have his wisdom teeth extracted. I sensed that he felt contempt for the crowd. I really enjoyed the band and the music, but when I saw the Wailers a couple of years ago they had a lot more energy. It's down to the frontman to set the mood, and I'm afraid that this dude really failed.
