About

The Waterboys have been led by Scottish singer and guitarist Mike Scott since the 1980s and have evolved through many line-ups, winning a fearsome concert reputation along the way. Indisputably one of the best live bands in the world, the 2025 group features double keyboard players Brother Paul from Memphis and James Hallawell from Cornwall, and is grounded by killer Irish rhythm section Aongus Ralston (bass) and Eamon Ferris (drums). They reconfigure music from all stages of the band's career, from the early "big music" of The Whole Of The Moon and classic album This Is The Sea through the roots-inspired Fisherman's Blues era and the run of in-form records that have poured out since 2015's Nashville-recorded Modern Blues, taking in soul, funk, country-rock and any other kind of music they care to play - and always rooted in Scott's songwriting mastery and a sense of exploration. Waterboys songs feature in the current or recent live sets of The War On Drugs, Bleachers, U2, The Killers, Tom Jones and many other acts but no one plays Waterboys quite like The Waterboys themselves. This year the band is touring their audacious new album on Sun records, Life, Death And Dennis Hopper, a brilliant concept record which tells the story of the maverick American actor and trailblazer. Audiences can expect Waterboys classics, new directions, drama, improvisation and musical fireworks.

  • Waterboys still on point

by Wanderingpaddy on 2025-09-23Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Concert for The Waterboys in Vancouver was amazing! Band was tight, and looked to be having a blast. Sound was perfect! I saw them 20 years ago and Mike Scott has not lost a step.

  • Waterboys Never Disappoint

by Mo on 2025-09-17The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

A two hour show where the Waterboys were full of energy and sharp. Heard someone complain because they'd rather have the usual greatest hits only show but we thought every minute of their show was crystal clear, high performance music. Loved the stories which made their new album make more sense. It sounded great live. Only thing we missed was their exceptional fiddler but he has retired. High energy, great sound. Never tire of the guys!

  • Waterboys bring epic tour alive at Danforth music hall.

by 80s survivor on 2025-09-15The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely beautiful night of music. Brilliant visuals, sounds and energy from an incredible band, it was really a spiritual experience for me. To hear songs that live in my head for so long played with masterful execution and great positive vibe. The crowd was in awe of it great room. The new song’s were warmly received as was the stage banter from a super appreciative Mike Scott. What a great group of musicians best show of the year for me by a large margin.

  • Waterboys delivered!

by David on 2025-09-14The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

What a great show. A definite focus on the new album, but the last part of the show was some their older stuff. A really good mix and they sounded amazing. Also, it was nice to hear Mike Scott say so many nice things about Toronto.

  • Fabulous concert, perfect venue

by Frank on 2025-09-13Théâtre Beanfield - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5

Mike Scott and the Waterboys shone at the Beanfield. Part storytelling, part poetic fever dream, all of it rock and roll. The Waterboys take us on a journey from Nashville to the Whole of the Moon, while waving at Dennis Hopper on his Harley along the way.

  • Too loud!!

by Lincoln on 2025-09-13Théâtre Beanfield - MontrealRating: 3 out of 5

I've always wanted to see the Waterboys play live and now I have. I loved the show!! Mike Scott is a legend in my mind. But it was way too loud for that small venue I also wished they had played more of the earlier stuff which was more folks.
