    Waterboys concert

    by S4 on 2019-10-09Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

It was a fun concert. Only complaint is that the sound was kept at too loud a level. It would be easier to hear the music, which is what we are there for, if the volume were reduced!

    Where the action is

by GTC on 2019-10-09Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Once again. the Waterboys presented an exceptional show at the Commodore. Two sets of unrelentlessly great music. Thanks for show!

Great show, shame about the hissy fit

by Jsull on 2019-10-09Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

The Waterboys always put on a great energised show. This is the roughly 20th time I have seen them. The band is incredible and Mike Scott has unrivalled talent. Sadly, two things marred this event. The song choice was not my favourite in the second half of the show (my personal opinion). But Mike Scott's tirade at a whistling fan was over the top and not only did it affect his own mood and performance, but it brought the crowd down and created an atmosphere of muted confusion; like a scolded school assembly. I understand how irritating those awful screaming whistles are, especially if you are in the midst of an intimate performance, however a simple and polite request not to continue would have sufficed. I don't want to give up £75 and my Sunday night to be screamed at, even by the great Mike Scott.

Enjoyed the show. Lots of newer stuff and less classics.

    Great Evening

    by M3n on 2019-10-09Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Mike Scott is an excellent story teller, via song and with what he shares on the stage from his experience. Excellent musicians, vast amount of material. Great trip from the past to the present.

Waterboys even better than I'd hoped for

by Belmont Huck on 2019-09-28The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

I've been a Waterboys fan for 30 plus years now and had never had the opportunity to see them live. I thought they were excellent wednesday night at the Danforth. The sound was clear, the musicianship top notch, the song selection first rate, Mike's Scott was in great vocal form and the whole band put on an animated tight show. I've been to a lot of concerts over the years seeing everybody ranging from the Stones, Jethro Tull, the Who, Springsteen and Bowie in their prime to Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, Arcade Fire and Arkells. This was definitely one of the best concerts I've ever been to and have to say the Danforth Music Hall is probably the best venue around to see a "medium" size act

An excellent show but not enough oldies...

by Pacemaker on 2019-09-28The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Such a great band, great songwriting, great players! However I was disappointed that Mike Scott only played 3 old songs in the whole show. I enjoyed the show, but I would have enjoyed more of a mix of new and old. And why 3 cover songs by other artists, when he has written so many great songs that we wanted to hear? I thought that was an odd choice. Still a great night of entertainment, though, no doubt about that.

    Great Show!

by The Cookietin on 2019-09-28The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Saw them for the 4th or was it the 5th time this week. Mike Scott and crew are always so solid. He knows his audience and always does a fantastic job of working in new material and new interpretations with his older songs. You know Whole of the Moon will make an appearance at the end but it’s the journey that gets you there that matters. It’s nostalgic at times but not in a tired or maudlin way. Nice job on Purple Rain for the closer. How could they possibly come back on stage after that?!

    Strange Setlist

by Muskie Hunter on 2019-09-28The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

When a group plays their biggest hit (Fisherman's Blues) right at the start of the show (2nd song) while the usual latecomers are still finding their seats you have to scratch your head. When one of the greatest songwriters ever plays 3 covers including a cover for the encore finale you just have to shake your head. There were some fine moments throughout the night but they could have torn the house down by replacing "Purple Rain" with "Fisherman's Blues" as their finale.

    Where were the band mates???

by Skynard on 2019-09-28The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Was looking forward to saxophones and back up singers, multiple fiddles and basically the real full deal. But all I saw was just a few guys on a stage strategically playing music that fit the instruments and vocals they lacked for the eve. Then a Prince cover for a grand encore finale??? WTF
