About

This will be the seventh time Calgary has played host to the Tim Hortons Brier, and the fourth time it’s been played at the Saddledome — the three previous visits to the Saddledome (curling capacity: approximately 19,000 seats) produced Alberta champions: Kevin Martin in 1997 and 2009, and Randy Ferbey in 2002. Calgary previously played host in 1948, 1961 and 1980.

The 1997 Brier featured the single-game attendance record for the event: 17,024.

The 2015 Tim Hortons Brier will also be notable as it will feature, for the first time, both a Team Canada entry — the winner of the 2014 Tim Hortons Brier in Kamloops, B.C. — as well as a pre-qualifying round that will determine the final 12-team field for the main round robin. Fifteen teams (the 14 Member Associations and Team) will be eligible to compete in the Tim Hortons Brier. Four teams will compete in the pre-qualifying round just before round-robin play begins to determine the final two entries. The format will be announced at a later date.

Great Curling - Go Canada John Morris

Seats we had on the home side were wonderful. Calgary always does a great job at putting events on. The only bad thing was where the patch had to be located. We all need a littler exercise! Here comes the Worlds!

    2015 Calgary Brier

by mammajn on 2015-03-11Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

The event was excellent. I was not impressed that entrance to the Brier Patch and Purple Heart Lounge were open to everyone. There was so much rif raf there which made is so crowded that actual event goers were unable to enter. I have never attended where you didn't need a game ticket to enter. Was very disappointing.

What a great final weekend. Everyone was excited, pumped and full of energy! We had close games all week and the last weekend didn't disappoint. The curling family is a strong unit and you could feel the passion and dedication of the fans towards the teams!

    A Way to Increase Attendance!

by WillyMakeit on 2015-03-10Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

As a "retired" competitive curler at the Brier, for every end I watched, I understood what each of the skips were strategizing, and appreciated the skill it took to make most of the shots, to make it an enjoyable 2 hour event! But I ended up explaining almost every shot played for 10 ends, to the 2 young men (non-curlers) who sat next to me, who stated that were very disappointed with the venue! They thought they would hear the same kind of commentary over the Saddledome speakers, so to understand what is going on, as when they watch the "feature" game on TSN! So maybe to get more "young people", "non-curlers" and "non-Canadians" to be interested/attend the Brier and understand/enjoy the game "live", have TSN go one step further and broadcast on 4 different FM radio frequencies (short range like listening to TV channels or music on an airplane), and we bring our smart phones, or radios (with our ear plugs), to the Brier venue and can listen to the "live" game we want to watch! You maybe can even get a sponsor to sell ear plugs (or give them away as freebees), for those who forgot to bring their own!

Fun Fun Fun We had a great time visiting and second guessing the Skips. Guess that is why we are spectators. Hopefully it comes back to Calgary in the near future.

    Mixed emotions

    by Black2 on 2015-03-09Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

My husband and I really enjoyed the draw at the actual event, but were disapointed with most of our other experiences on Friday evening. We arrived early so decided to go to the Patch for a quick bite to eat and a beer. Upstairs we heard that there was a video scheduled to run downstairs in a few minutes that sounded interesting, so down we went. We saw where the food services should be, complete with menu options and hours of operation. However they were not serving when they should have been. We asked and the volunteer had a response that didn't really make sense. he said we could get a hot dog upstairs if we wanted - we didn't. The video Sticks and Stones was great! Off to the dome where we found some food and purchased 50/50 tickets before proceeding to our seats. At the finish of the 8th end we decided to head over to the Patch to catch the end of the game and get established before the rush. Before we left, we consulted with 2 seperate people (one volunteer, one dome employee) that we would be able to check our 50/50 numbers later in the evening. They both said yes there was a board there that is updated daily. Upon arrival, I saw the board, but noticed it had not been updated for a couple days...not a good sign. We enjoyed the end of the game, ran into some of the curlers who were all very nice, and caught some of the band. The main band was to be playing long before we left (according to the online schedule, nor was their entertainment in the lower level as there was supposed to be) but there was no sign of them when we decided to leave. Still not update on the 50/50 draw. The next day we tried to source the winning numbers and no luck... My husband is on a winning streak with e 50/50's so quite disapointing to us that we couldn't verify if his streak was over or not. Anyway, we volunteer at the Shaw Charity Classic and found that it is a much better run venue. We are trained to answer questions by visitors and if we don't know it, find out. When something is scheduled to happen it does or there is an expalnation offered. So all in all, some good, some disapointing moments for us. My husband isn't interested in returning should the Brier come back, but I would give it another go for sure and hope thaat whatever happened to some of the 'plans' this year are learned from and corrected.

Great games... Need to rework the Patch

by ZetaMV on 2015-03-09Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

The event was great but this is the first year that they allowed anyone into the patch after party. In the past the only way you could get into the patch was with a game ticket, this year it was open to anyone, so everyone that went to the game couldn't get into the patch because it was already full.

First time attending the Brier. I enjoyed the event very much. I would go again only if I was sure the loss of my reserved seat disaster did not happen again.

    2015 Tim Horton's Brier Review

by Anonymous on 2015-03-08Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

This is the fourth brier that I have attended and it was a great experience. My seats were awesome and the competition was terrific. I went to the Brier Patch on Saturday, March 7th and it was packed. However the waiting line to get tokens and a beer moved quickly. The workers in both the Big Four Building where the Patch was located and the Saddle Dome were helpful, friendly and made you feel at home. I thought the quality of the clothing merchandise on sale for the Brier was a bit lower quality compared to other years. Other than that I would rate this as one of the best Briers that I have experienced. Great Brier atmosphere and crowd participation with wonderful spring weather in Calgary!
