About

TOBACCO IN CONCERT:

Electronic producer Tobacco eschews the modern trend of digitalization, preferring lo-fi synthesizers and outmoded tape machines to construct his psychedelic grooves. He overheats retro circuits in concert to stir up a wildly unpredictable and undeniably danceable witch’s brew of distorted bass warbles, whooshing oscillations, and warped vocal samples. With surrealist videos projected behind him as he unleashes funky productions like “Stretch Your Face”, “Grape Aerosmith”, and “Streaker”, Tobacco gives ticket buyers a mind-blowing visual accompaniment to match the bizarre aural buffet. Audiences simply won’t be able to stand still as Tobacco breaks the mold with other-worldly musical collages and unforgettable hallucinogenic spectacles on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Very little is known about experimental musician Tobacco, and he probably prefers to keep it that way. Born Thomas Fec, Tobacco first rose to acclaim in 2003 as a member of Pittsburg’s psychedelic electronica collective Black Moth Super Rainbow. Known for using vocoders, analogue synthesizers, and tape machines, Tobacco has shaped the group's sound and steered their creative direction on albums like 2007’s Dandelion Gum and 2012’s Cobra Juicy. After establishing the collective he made his solo debut with 2008’s F***** Up Friends. The album caught the attention of Beck, who collaborated on two tracks for Tobacco’s 2010 album Maniac Meat. His music has also been featured extensively on the HBO sitcom Silicon Valley, including the show’s theme song “Stretch Your Face”. Tobacco has maintained a high level of quality with both Black Moth Super Rainbow and his solo productions, delivering psychedelic dance parties on tour and superb recordings like 2014’s Ultima II Massage.
