    Too Late

by Anonymous on 2011-07-08Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I've seen Toots a few times and he is always great but this time the opening act didn't start until past 9:30 and they then played for more than an hour (too long for an opener). Then Toots daughter does her best karaoke for a few tunes and it is almost 11:30 before Toots hits the stage! For a show on a Tuesday night this is waaay too late for those of us that actually have to work in the morning.

    Toots is one great entertainer!!

by Aosatink on 2011-07-07Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

It's plain to see from the energy and overall positive vibe that radiated from the crowd , that Toot's knows how to motivate a crowd. Playing well known favorites , with a bit of flair , got everyone moving and charged up. I've seen many a show at the Commodore, but rarely have I seen the crowd this enthralled with a performer ! Well worth checking out the next time he comes through town .

Toots great; audience - not so great

    by Sarah2908 on 2011-07-07Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Toots and the Maytals were, as always, fantastic and I would recommend them again and again. Unfortunately I was once again reminded of some of the idiots who attend concerts in Vancouver. The atmosphere should have been fun and relaxed, with the crowd enjoying every moment (as it was when I saw Toots in Seattle last year). But this was yet another concert in Vancouver attracting aggressive thugs who are not fans, but just want to spoil it for everyone. There were four guys in particular who were being very violent, smashing glass and pushing people out of their places. One couple in front of me stood up for themselves when one of these guys jumped on the female - because the girl dared say something, the one guy got all of his buddies to start pushing them until they couldn't take it anymore and left. The Commodore Ballroom Security was nowhere to be seen and this continued aggressiveness was way beyond normal mosh pit behavior. I was annoyed that the security let it happen when it was so obvious and continued throughout the concert, and that tons of people had their $100 concert disturbed because of them.

You gotta see Toots and the Maytals!

by MancInVanc on 2011-07-07Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Usually when you go to a gig, if it's good, you get the area in front of the stage rocking and maybe all the way back to the middle, it's rare for the entire house from front to back to be bouncing but thats what we got at the commodore ballroom. Vancouver loved Toots and i really hope he comes back again for another show sometime soon, I'll be the first in line for a ticket. All i can say is if you haven't seen them, and get the chance; take it!

    Loved Toots..tired of venue

by seats on 2011-07-07Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Love the venue. Commodore is truly a Vancouver landmark. Unfortunately , I am so tired of of waiting hours to see the main performer. Tickets said 8:00. Opening act started around 9:30 . Maybe start advertising...doors 8:00pm , concert 9:30 . Many people complaining on this - AGAIN. Toots came on stage at 11:00. I understand "Island Time". I am from the Caribbean. But 11:00....a little late for a weekday . Seems this is always how concerts from the Caribbean are run. Frankly, tired of it. Toots was good. He still has the voice & the moves. Played mainly to the young crowd upfront. A lot of time wasted in songs with 'filler' cords. Would have liked to have seen a few more clssics instead of fillers in songs. In the end, loved seeing him again. Ending up leaving before concert ended.....in order that we get the last rapid transit train out of city. Noticed that a lot of people leaving when & before we did.

    Toots Rocked The House

by Shandry on 2009-07-14The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

While I was hoping to hear a few more of my absolute favourites (Blah Blah Blah Blah for one), Toots commanded the stage and rocked the house throughout the 2 hours. I literally danced from note one right through the encore as did the entire crowd. The backup singers were incredible and the band was so high energy! I would definitely reccomend this to anyone who loves a high energy, can't sit still concert!

It was a long time coming but I finally got to experience Toots & the Maytals, the band credited with creating Reggae & Ska, and I was not disappointed!

    Toots is Toots

by knaltzjung on 2009-07-13The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Someone must let you know there is no seating at the Phoenix Theatre. Thats ridiculous. Talked to other people from Niagara Falls who also were not told. Why is there a seat number on your ticket? Toots was good and should have played more old stuff. Band as usual was too loud but this ended up being a dance not a concert. One bad thing with Toots-he only played for 1 1/2 hours and started at 10 PM even though the doors opened at 8PM. Stand and drink for 2 hours. Not good

    Toots came out blazin'

by Tompkins on 2009-07-13The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

This show was on fire from start to finish. And not that I was surprised, but being that it was on a Sunday night and Toots didn't get on stage until shortly after 10pm, he definitely did not disappoint the fans. With a Pressure Drop opener, the entire band was blazing and had already set the place on fire! And it never really cooled down in the Phoenix until the show was over. Wow was it ever nice to have the Father of Reggae back in TO. It was tough to have to wait another year and a half from the last show that was unfortunately cancelled due to Toots being sick. But after last night's concert, it felt as though the man who is now in his mid 60's had not aged a day since he was last on that stage. Long live the eternal Toots and Maytals!

by bluesman on 2009-07-13The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Amazing, amazing!! Like Toots said last night: "I've been coming to Toronto for a long time...this is by far the best audience ever!!"...and he was right! The crowd was into Toots and the other 7 members the whole night!!...I loved the band but I loved the crowd's response even more...I've followed and seen Toots since the very early 80's and this was as good as it gets!!

by areman on 2009-07-13The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Toots Hibbert delivered a great show. This man is 64 and one of the original reggae stars of the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and he does a great show.
