Toronto Maple Leafs History

The Toronto Maple Leafs have 13 Stanley Cup Championships and seven division championships, with more than 60 former players, coaches and executives in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Maple Leafs were one of the NHL's founding teams in 1917. They originally were known as the Arenas and then the St. Patricks before taking their current name in 1927 after Conn Smythe bought the franchise.

The team won two Stanley Cup Championships in the NHL's first five years and returned to the finals in 1932 behind the "Kid Line" of eventual Hall of Famers Charlie Conacher, Joe Primeau, and Busher Jackson. In 1942, they defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games to win the first of five Stanley Cup Championships under coach Hap Day. The addition the following year of center Ted Kennedy helped the Leafs maintain their dominance, and resulted in another title in 1951.

The Leafs won three Stanley Cup Championships in a row starting in 1962, and another in the 1966-1967 season, thanks to a roster brimming with players who would end up in the Hall of Fame: George Armstrong, Johnny Bower, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Tim Horton, Allan Stanley, Bob Pulford, and Frank Mahovlich.

The team returned to the conference finals in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994, then again in 1998-1999—the latter trip powered by eventual franchise scoring leader Mats Sundin. The Maple Leafs have appeared in the Playoffs every year consecutively since 2017. The Toronto Maple Leafs have made the Playoffs a total of 74 times to date.

The leafs phillies game was great, air canada staff were friendly and helpful. The improvements they have made to the ACC are great and give a real lively feel to the the atmosphere of this event. Leafs are a energized team this year and I hope they can continue this in the regular season. GO Leafs GO.

Even so it was only a pre-season game the players gave it tehir all. They were 4:2 behind but didn't give up and the crowd kept cheering them on. Great to see them go into OT and win it.

Saturday's game was fantastic. I can see why Brian Burke is the GM of the Maple Leafs. He is doing superb job. The excitement of knowing that there is hope for a playoff spot is refreshing. Love the game.. been watching since I was 5... now am 47. Go Leafs Go!!!

  • Go Leafs Go! 5-4 Leafs!

    by Jax3 on 2009-09-21Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

We were in the "nose bleed" section and it was so much fun! We were in the very top row of the ACC and still could see very well. The game was a blast and the fans in our area were so energetic and cheered the entire game through. I would like to think that is why the Leafs came back to win in overtime! Go Leafs Go!

by shadowcatz on 2009-09-20Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I purchased the tickets 2 weeks ago and went to the game last night it was totally ossome. The leafs were done 4-2 in the 3rd period when they came back to tie the game 4-4 at the end of regulation time, then just 1:23 into the 5:00 min. overtime the leafs scored to send the large crowd into a frenzy between that and Berky's hot dogs it was a great night.

  • Best ever

This game was sick. SO many fights and it was only pre-season. I would recommend everyone to go see a leafs game, best experience you'll ever have. GO LEAFS GO!!

  • WE WON 5-4 in overtime GO LEAFS GO!

by Myszka on 2009-09-20Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Well it was quite the event for my first live hockey game. Going into the last 3rd of the game loosing 4-2 and then something amazing happened, the fans started chanting "GO LEAFS GO" and lo and behold "GOAL", yippee we are down by only 1 goal, the suspense is in the air but the fans don't give up the chanting gets louder, the ACC is going wild doing the wave, but no this can't be....another GOAL!!!!! It's a tie and we are now in overtime, the 'kiss cam' has done its round, we're all feeling the love. Nananana hey hey hey goodbye, and yes we say goodbye to our opponents the Flyers as they spread their wings and fly away home with their heads hung low. Oh and did I mention the amount of fights their were during the game, it was hockey with a side show of boxing. Spectacular!

  • Leafs live the cup!

by Mishi on 2009-09-20Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Slow start, the ususal TML. If it was not for Kadri, Blake and Hagman the game was lost. We hope that TML will bring some spirit to the game as all the fans did. Let's hope for a good season, play players that come to play not to watch. There is enough people in the stands that are watching and screaming their lungs out. It was my B-day and I was hoping for more action, similar to the one in JLC in London. Looking foward for more good games with happy ending. Go Leafs Go!

  • High scoring game with a Leaf win in OT!!!

by NocFury on 2009-09-20Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

We managed to score some last minute tickets to the game for my buddy's bachelor party, and even though we sat at the VERY last row, it was still an incredible time. The game was fast and action packed, lots of fighting, lots of goals and a total blast. The crowd was really into it for the whole game, and the Leaf's win in OT just sealed the experience. Amazing time!

I took my mom, dad and husband to the game...we had standing seats but we could see almost everything. This was the first NHL game my parents have ever been too. Toronto made an excellent effort and won the game. The atmosphere was exciting and we had a wonderful time. Next month were going to a Senators game and they are playing the NHL Stanley Cup champs..I hope it is as exciting as this game was...

The game was incredible!!! I enjoyed the atmosphere. Even though it was a preseason game the ACC was packed with leaf fans. Even being down 4-2 in the third period no one left and it was a good thing because when the leafs came back to win it in overtime the fans went crazy!!!!
