Parks is unique
by Ptrckrssll on 2010-10-01Music Gallery - TorontoLove him or hate him, Van Dyke Parks marches to his own drummer. Wordplay clever to the point of being idiosyncratic coupled with a charming personality and virtuosic (and idiosyncratic!) piano-playing made for a memorable evening. The opening act, Brooklyn-based 'Clare and the Reasons', made me want to rip my ears off or do a John Belushi (cf 'Animal House) on Clare's head - self-indulgent and thoroughly annoying.
