About

You don't sell over two million copies of your debut album without some serious hard work, and Australian singer/songwriter Vance Joy has never been shy of major elbow grease. When Vance Joy first cut his teeth performing at open mic nights in Melbourne, he was feeding on a diet of artists like The Pogues and Paul Kelly. By 2013 he was ready to introduce the world to his ukulele-led charm 'Riptide', which became an instant global classic. The connection and journey his music was about to have on the world in years to come was an unexpected reward to the young songwriter.

Vance Joy (born James Keogh) consolidated on that first impression with further anthems 'Mess is Mine', 'Georgia' and 'Fire and the Flood'. Those hits all found a home on the 2014's debut 'dream your life away'. Vance Joy spent 2013 and 2014 playing clubs around the world before the album was released which then saw him surface everywhere from singing on the American Idol Season Final to being handpicked to open Taylor Swift's 1989 World Tour, festivals from Lollapalooza in Chicago and South America, to Coachella, Splendour in the Grass and the AFL Grand Final. After his successful Sold Out 2016 'Fire and The Flood' North American theatre run, and Australian performances at the Sydney Opera House, Margaret Court Arena and Riverstage he took a well-earned rest.

Come July 2017 - Vance Joy kicked off the campaign for his sophomore album 'Nation of Two' with the lead single 'Lay It On Me' showing it was destined to be another successful album. The track was followed six months later with the album and follow up single 'Saturday Sun', a tune so good that he held up delivering Nation of Two to ensure it made the cut.

The success of 'Nation of Two' saw Vance Joy tour the world throughout 2018 on the 'Nation of Two World Tour' ranging in venues from Arena's across Canada, amphitheatres in North America including the famous Red Rocks, the first Latin American headline shows, theatres across Europe and Arena's across Australia including two sold-out hometown shows at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena. November 2018, the end of the 83 date World Tour, Vance Joy had yet another offer to tour with one of the world's biggest female artists. P!NK extended an offer for Vance Joy to join her European stadium run on her Beautiful Trauma World Tour. Summer 2019 saw Vance Joy and band join her biggest tour to date and enjoy an extensive run of Stadium shows across Europe before taking another well-earned break to work on album number three.

In 2021 Vance Joy returned with 'Missing Piece', the song soon hit x2 Platinum in Australia, #1 at USA Triple A Radio, #2 on the Australian Radio Chart, #2 at the USA and Canada Alternative Radio Chart and won Best Video at the ARIA Awards. Released in June 2022, 'In Our Own Sweet Time', the third album by Vance Joy featured hit single, 'Clarity' which peaked at #3 on the USA Alt Radio Charts. The song spent one week at #1, nine weeks in the Top 5 and eleven weeks in the Top 10 on the Triple A Radio Charts in the US. In Australia, Vance Joy received 5 ARIA Nominations after the album's release including, Best Solo Artist, Best Adult Contemporary Artist, Best Pop Release for Clarity, Song of the Year for Clarity and Best Video for Every Side of You. Winning Best Video for the 2nd year in a row.

With 5 billion streams across all platforms, it's no surprise that listeners all over the world connect to Vance Joys intimate yet anthemic song writing. His lyrics take you on a journey that will reach out and hold you for a delicate moment. Bringing together a unique, charming mix of folk music with pop influences, these songs capture the familiar pulse of everyday experiences in a unique and celebratory manner.

Dan Mangan was the star of the night

    by Malonie on 2023-08-28

If you went for Vance Joy and didn’t know the opening act then you won the lotto seeing this show. The opener Dan Mangan is a Canadian gift that has kept on giving since his first album Post Cards and Daydreaming released in 2005. His latest release “Say When” is a hyped up extension of his catalogue of brilliant music that captures the soul. I really enjoyed the whole evening but when I say you must check out this gent on Spotify, trust me on this one ⭐️

    Amazing Artist

    by Bellini G on 2023-08-28

I’d never miss a Vance Joy show if he is playing near me and if you go to one of his shows you will understand why. It’s the fist time I’ve seen him with a band which was a nice surprise. As for Deer lake park, they could us more toilets, keep the bar open till the end of the show instead of closing an hour early and getting there and getting home after is a nightmare.

    Vance Joy is AMAZING!

    by Liz on 2023-08-28

The Vance Joy concert exceeded my expectations. He’s an amazing performer and it would have been impossible to leave the venue without feeling happy from the experience. He is so talented, as were all his band mates. They were each highlighted and their collective talents really added to the vibe. One thing to note with the venue being Deer Lake in Burnaby was that kids 10 and under didn’t need a ticket with a paying adult, which we didn’t know till the day before the show. Thankfully we had friends to gift the tickets to, but it would have been nice to know in advance that they didn’t need a ticket. (Deer Lake is a wonderful outdoor venue by the way!) If you have the opportunity to see Vance Joy live, do it! Everyone I brought with me only knew a few songs and they all left feeling like new fans of his.

    Great Concert, Too Many Lines

    by LMLew2 on 2023-08-28

Loved the bands! Nowhere near enough food trucks though - the lines were ridiculous

    The most amazing night!

    by Cindy on 2023-08-28

Vance's concert was amazing! It was the perfect night at the park! The weather was beautiful, the sound was amazing and Vance was fantastic! There was some lacking in the facilities department though. LONG line ups for the porta-potties, not sure if there is a quota of what is provided for the amount of guests. The food truck lines were super long as well, we luckily ate before we went!

Amazing music but venue was just ok

    by Sam on 2023-08-28

Vance Joy and the supporting acts were great but the venue felt way too packed and not enough amenities for the amount of people. The lines were very long for food, drinks and the bathrooms. Hopefully Deer Lake adds more toilets next time! Besides that, Vance is a wonderful performer and he sounds amazing live. His band was also phenomenal and so talented.

    Line Ups

    by Hoop on 2023-08-28

The show was good. Unfortunately we had to watch all of Dan Manganese and half of Vance from the food truck line up we were in for 2.5hours. If you can’t handle the volume, you should allow outside food.

Amazing Show/Venue - Terrible Food Options

    by Ash on 2023-08-28

Vance Joy puts on an amazing show! Loved Dan Mangan as well! Deer Lake Park is a really great venue for watching a concert. However, there were so few food truck for the amount of people there - about 6 for over 6000 people? - and lines were upwards of an hour and a half long for any food. Unacceptable and definitely ruined the experience of what should have been an amazing night. Parking is also very difficult and would be nice if there were more options as it’s not always feasible to get there another way efficiently. Wouldn’t want to give Vance Joy anything less than 5 stars but the organization of the venue definitely deserves less.

    Performance great. Organization TERRIBLE

    by GC on 2023-08-28

Vance Joy, Dan Mangan, and Ruby Waters were all incredible. The venue is a beautiful outdoor space, however, the organization by Live Nation regarding legless chairs, and the food truck situations were an absolute MESS. Everyone in my group, check tickets and venue information leading up, everywhere stated that legless lawn chairs were permitted, ones with legs were not. Once we arrived, our legless chairs were let through with no problem, however, once we sat down on them, they were event security staff asking everyone to stop sitting on their chairs and either sit on them like a pad or lay them down flat. There was a lot of frustration from concert goers as everyone had checked online, and security claimed there was a miscommunication and told everyone Live Nation changed the policy without anyone being advised. So security staff were allowing people in with chairs, but the same security staff were stopping people from sitting on them. Additionally, the food truck lines were an absolute sh*tshow. It took 1 couple from our group over 2 hours to line up, order, and then finally received their food. This was a standard experience from many we spoke to. Many people stood in line for food during the entire concert, and there needs to be significantly better organization next time!!

    more or less good

    by nick on 2023-08-28

On Friday Aug 25, 2023 Vance Joy played a solid show at Deer Lake Park, with Dan Mangan and Ruby Waters. Vance Joy presents as a professional singer songwriter who delivers a full value effort. He used every minute of his 90 minuet set to deliver the entertainment the crowd paid to see. That being said, the venue likely plays a significant role in the enjoyment of the evening. As the energy kicks up, the sun goes down creating contributing significantly to the atmosphere the darkness almost seems to lift the ambition of the audience to move more with each song culminating in a group sing-a-long for Riptide. While somewhat similar in style, Vance comes across almost the opposite of the opener Dan Mangan who is there to engage as much as he is to sing, having ongoing conversation and stories thought-out the set, thought perhaps a the cost of time as there was definitely some money left on the table when it came to his set list. Great night for family and friends to enjoy a late summer show...3 out of 5

    Too many people

    by Sarah on 2023-08-28

Music was great but there were way too many people at the venue. The line ups for the portapoties, food trucks and beer garden were ridiculously long.

Great concert at a disorganized venue

    by Coop on 2023-08-28

Vance Joy put on a great show and Dan Mangan was fantastic. Unfortunately we spent all of Dan Mangan and a good chunk of Vance Joy’s set in line for food. When you start a concert at 6:00 on a weekday, it is completely unacceptable to have 2 hour food lines for overpriced chicken fingers and burgers. Not the artists’fault, but we’ll plan differently if we ever head back to a concert at Deer Lake.

Vance Joy at Deer Lake Park

    by Ash on 2023-08-28

The show was great! We LOVED Vance Joy! He put on a fantastic show! He was engaged with the crowd and played so many great songs! Ruby Waters has an amazing voice and so talented, however, she was probably not the best choice for an opener of a family friendly event as she swore so much and all of her songs have an Explicit rating on them. I was a bit disappointed to learn that children 10 and under were free for the show. I wish Live Nation would show this when you are purchasing tickets as I bought my daughter a ticket and turns out, I didn’t actually need too.

    Taxi information/directions Misinformation

    by Diane on 2023-08-28

The show including Vance Joy was excellent. The sound was clear, was easy to see stage from all over the hill and the venue was a good choice. My only complaint is that the information regarding where taxis could drop off or pick up was unknown by festival staff and there was no signage. As a single women trying to find a safe way to get home on her own, it was difficult with all the traffic.

    More facilities

    by Mike on 2023-08-28

Great show and venue but more washrooms needed for a crowd that size. Some more food trucks would have been nice too.
