You don't sell over two million copies of your debut album without some serious hard work, and Australian singer/songwriter Vance Joy has never been shy of major elbow grease. When Vance Joy first cut his teeth performing at open mic nights in Melbourne, he was feeding on a diet of artists like The Pogues and Paul Kelly. By 2013 he was ready to introduce the world to his ukulele-led charm 'Riptide', which became an instant global classic. The connection and journey his music was about to have on the world in years to come was an unexpected reward to the young songwriter.
Vance Joy (born James Keogh) consolidated on that first impression with further anthems 'Mess is Mine', 'Georgia' and 'Fire and the Flood'. Those hits all found a home on the 2014's debut 'dream your life away'. Vance Joy spent 2013 and 2014 playing clubs around the world before the album was released which then saw him surface everywhere from singing on the American Idol Season Final to being handpicked to open Taylor Swift's 1989 World Tour, festivals from Lollapalooza in Chicago and South America, to Coachella, Splendour in the Grass and the AFL Grand Final. After his successful Sold Out 2016 'Fire and The Flood' North American theatre run, and Australian performances at the Sydney Opera House, Margaret Court Arena and Riverstage he took a well-earned rest.
Come July 2017 - Vance Joy kicked off the campaign for his sophomore album 'Nation of Two' with the lead single 'Lay It On Me' showing it was destined to be another successful album. The track was followed six months later with the album and follow up single 'Saturday Sun', a tune so good that he held up delivering Nation of Two to ensure it made the cut.
The success of 'Nation of Two' saw Vance Joy tour the world throughout 2018 on the 'Nation of Two World Tour' ranging in venues from Arena's across Canada, amphitheatres in North America including the famous Red Rocks, the first Latin American headline shows, theatres across Europe and Arena's across Australia including two sold-out hometown shows at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena. November 2018, the end of the 83 date World Tour, Vance Joy had yet another offer to tour with one of the world's biggest female artists. P!NK extended an offer for Vance Joy to join her European stadium run on her Beautiful Trauma World Tour. Summer 2019 saw Vance Joy and band join her biggest tour to date and enjoy an extensive run of Stadium shows across Europe before taking another well-earned break to work on album number three.
In 2021 Vance Joy returned with 'Missing Piece', the song soon hit x2 Platinum in Australia, #1 at USA Triple A Radio, #2 on the Australian Radio Chart, #2 at the USA and Canada Alternative Radio Chart and won Best Video at the ARIA Awards. Released in June 2022, 'In Our Own Sweet Time', the third album by Vance Joy featured hit single, 'Clarity' which peaked at #3 on the USA Alt Radio Charts. The song spent one week at #1, nine weeks in the Top 5 and eleven weeks in the Top 10 on the Triple A Radio Charts in the US. In Australia, Vance Joy received 5 ARIA Nominations after the album's release including, Best Solo Artist, Best Adult Contemporary Artist, Best Pop Release for Clarity, Song of the Year for Clarity and Best Video for Every Side of You. Winning Best Video for the 2nd year in a row.
With 5 billion streams across all platforms, it's no surprise that listeners all over the world connect to Vance Joys intimate yet anthemic song writing. His lyrics take you on a journey that will reach out and hold you for a delicate moment. Bringing together a unique, charming mix of folk music with pop influences, these songs capture the familiar pulse of everyday experiences in a unique and celebratory manner.

I could hear Vance Joy clearly and the whole concert blended from one song to the next without a hitch. I actually had tears in my eyes just knowing that I got to see him live and the sound was amazing!! I was seated in the 100s and the seats were comfortable, even a place to put my drink. The venue was great! Vance Joy and his group were amazing!!
Vance Joy was amazing live!! He sounds exactly the same live, the band members were also fantastic. It was one of my favourite concerts that I’ve been to. If you get the chance to see Vance Joy, don’t pass up the chance!
The Usher took her job very seriously by yelling at people who stood on the stairs to long, if there was empty seats and someone sat there before moving closer to the other people she was freak out, constantly flashing her flash light all around so people would notice her but it took away from the preformers. She would come up the stairs and grab people. I’m pretty sure she removed two people and I don’t understand why
Great show! Vance Joy sounds better in concert than on recordings. You could tell he was having fun playing and the crowd reacted accordingly. Great energy, left the concert with a happy, content feeling. The only knock would be he only played for about an hour 15, but it was still great! The venue, on the other hand, was a disaster! ScotiaBank Centre is getting worse year over year. Yes, there was construction going on, but even then it still is garbage.
Vance Joy put on an excellent show along with his entire band. Kudos to the brass section. I'm 66 and I saw children at the show so he appeals to a wide range of people who were mostly on their feet for the entire show. Would definitely see him again.
First time seeing Vance Joy and I was pleasantly surprised that he could fill 20k+ seats. The music was great, showing that he and his band are great musicians and vocalists. I wish Vance and other acts would stop shutting down a show that was building nicely so they can move to another stage to get closer to the audience, and then doing it again to move back to the main stage. How about just extending the stage so you can walk through the audience and keep the show going. This is a minor gripe against what was overall, a great and fun show.
I wish I could re live this concert over and over again. I took my fiancé because it is her favourite band, and now they are one of my favourite bands. Voice of a literal angel. Highly recommend
I ALWAYS tell people if they need to see one artist live - it’s Vance Joy! He’s even more amazing live! His energy at Scotiabank Arena was insane!!! This is by far the best Vance Joy show I’ve been too and I’ve been to many! I can’t wait for him to come back 🤍
We attended the Scotiabank Arena concert. There were two opening acts: Tiny Habits & Japanese House. Hubby & I enjoyed Tiny Habits but not Japanese House. Tiny Habits has great harmonies. Also the way they were on stage with each other was really endearing. Their sound & volume level was great. Japanese House was way too loud for me. Their sound seemed to be echoing way too much. I forgot my earplugs unfortunately so I plugged my ears with my fingers. I started getting a headache from the sensory overload. Thankfully Vance Joy's music made me feel better. Vance Joy & band was amazing. The volume level was perfect & his sound & the band were great! He started the set with a couple of acoustic songs & two of his band members singing beside him. Hubby is more of a fan than I am, so I only recognized Vance's most popular songs like Saturday Sun, Riptide, Fire & Flood. Still, his performance was great & I could appreciate his professionalism as a musician & singer. The band was great too. At one point Vance went to the middle of the floor where there was a small stage & performed three songs. One of them was with Tiny Habits. Overall it was an enjoyable concert. Scotiabank arena is undergoing some big renovations. There was a lot of construction all around. When we arrived from the the subway the gate right in front was closed. So we had to circle around towards the back of the venue for entry. Concession stand options were pretty standard: hot dogs, fries, burgers, popcorn, etc. Drinks were pop, water, & alcoholic drinks like beer. We were on the floor level. We made a mistake getting those seats. There is no stadium seating there so we had many tall people in front of us & couldn't see much of the stage. In front of the stage there was standing room only also. If we had gotten seats one level up it would've been better as that's when the stadium seating starts. We know better for next time. There were only two spots to buy merch from the show. There were long lineups. But Scotiabank arena has an app for the merch shop. I didn't download it so I will try it next time we go for a concert here. Also note that there is only one set of washrooms on the floor level for men & women. Long washroom lineups. The upper levels have more than one washroom for both genders. There is even a genderless washroom. Not related to the venue or musical experience, there was a couple beside us who attempted to steal our seats when hubby & I left to use the washroom & get snacks. The lady kept giving us weird looks & even kicked hubby repeatedly when she was dancing. They never apologized for taking our seats or being otherwise unpleasant. There were some rude people at the concert. But most people were nice. There was a guy in a suit in front of us & his joyful dancing was so cute to watch. He didn't bother anyone. He was just enjoying himself. It just goes to show, you never know who you are going to encounter.
