Vancouver Canucks History

The Vancouver Canucks started play in 1970, entering the league along with the Buffalo Sabres. Vancouver has been to the Stanley Cup Final on three occasions, though they lost to the New York Islanders in 1982, the New York Rangers in 1994 and the Boston Bruins in 2011.

Despite humble beginnings, the Canucks continued to develop. With the arrival of three key players — Captain Trevor Linden, netminder Kirk McLean, and "the Russian Rocket" Pavel Bure, the Canucks had a winning Playoff run season — making it to the 1994 finals.

The Canucks continued to acquire superstars like Alexander Mogilny and Markus Näslund, and while the following years meant a series of losses, it allowed for the team to draft Henrik and Daniel Sedin, who would go on to lead the Canucks to Presidents' Trophies in back-to-back seasons in 2010-11 and 2011-12, as well as their finals appearance in 2011.

Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena

The Vancouver Canucks play their home games at the 475,000-square foot Rogers Arena, which also played host to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games where Sidney Crosby scored the “Golden Goal.” A staple of downtown Vancouver, the Canucks played their first game at the arena on October 9, 1995. Other notable events that have taken place at the arena include the 1998 NHL All-Star Game, 2019 NHL Entry Draft, and in October 2002 when Queen Elizabeth II dropped the ceremonial first puck during an NHL exhibition game between the Canucks and San Jose Sharks. Additionally, the arena played host to Games 1, 2, 5, and 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals.

From buying tickets to leaving the arena, this was an easy and enjoyable night. Action, ups and downs and community on a grand level. I’ve already purchased our next game and planned our next trip. 10/10 recommend.

I brought my two sons for their first NHL game. Staff were awesome and we all had a blast (even though the Flames lost...). Thanks Canucks staff for making this a great experience!!

  • Philadelphia Flyers at Vancouver Canucks

by Rohit on 2024-10-14Rogers Arena - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent experience, largely due to the result as a Flyers fan, but aside from my subjectivity, the venue staff were polite, courteous and overall it was a positive experience for my son and I. I love being able to view the warm up from up close and take pictures and video. The music 🎵 was absolutely horrendous, but I'm a Metal fan so the cloying sounds of dance music and hip hop are not my thing. We will be back as always, and my son enjoyed his burger from Triple O's. The price was a hammer to the head but what isn't these days? Thank you.

  • Parking nightmare

by Sue on 2024-09-30Abbotsford Centre - AbbotsfordRating: 3 out of 5

The game was great once we made it to our seats 10 minutes into the game. Sorry Canucks, I appreciate you are trying to bring your game to us in the valley but unfortunately the Abbotsford arena doesn’t have parking to support you. Nor do the surrounding roadways. We were backed up on Hwy 1 trying to exit and get through those undersized roundabouts.

  • Wild Night in Abby Center

by Big Canucks Fan on 2024-09-29Abbotsford Centre - AbbotsfordRating: 5 out of 5

What a super experience it was watching the Canuck’s Pre-season game against the Flames on Wednesday night. What a show the Canucks Organization put on, including Honouring the Gaudreau Brothers, Celebrating National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the fun contests and the live music between periods. To top it off the Canucks tying up the game with 14 sec. left and winning it in OT - Wow - The fans went wild! As a Senior who finds it difficult to travel into Vancouver for games, it is greatly appreciated to occasionally be able to watch our Team in Abbotsford.

  • Great preseason Game

We came to Canada for holiday and as Hockey-Fans of the German Team Kölner Haie (Cologne Sharks) I wanted to watch a Game in the motherland of icehockey. And it was a Great Game with Last Minute equal Score After empty net and all the tension of a good Game. Liked it very much !!!

Game was great and having them in Abby was amazing. Being able to see the Canucks play closer to home and up close was great. Prince is way better as well.

Vancouver Canucks is awesome! I love them so much I was cheering them on while watching the preseason game. We had some mini donuts, beer and Cotton candy. We had a great time. We took lots of pictures so memories will be with us forever. I highly recommend going to a game. The experience is great but a bit pricey but what you're going to do they the one of most popular hockey teams in Canada

Great Atmosphere. It was such a great idea to host a viewing party. Though , it was a bit painful to try and get tickets but I got lucky to snag a couple so am pretty happy about that. I know some people didn’t get lucky and was very upset on the system.

  • Game was unreal. Fans were terrible.

by Sarah on 2024-05-19Rogers Arena - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Playoff hockey is amazing. But these fans make kids cry and chirp kids and it isn't cool.
