Vivaldi's 4 Seasons -VSO's best concert this year
by wildocean on 2009-12-20Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - VancouverThis concert was phenomenal. We'd gone for Vivaldi, but the first act was equally wonderful. It started with Purcell, which I'd never heard but will probably find a CD of now. Then some lively Handel, and a Bach piece written for oboe d'amore (the alto oboe). The oboe was so beautiful it made me want to take up music again, though I haven't played anything for a few decades. Vivaldi was brilliant. Such a well known piece but hearing it live was just wonderful. The lead violin (and conductor) was amazing. She had so much energy, as did the entire ensemble, and she really brought out the imagery of the piece.
