About
WAND IN CONCERT:
LA-based psych-rock quartet Wand stay true to their ‘70s forebears while also keeping their sound fresh with plenty of modern touches. The band’s fuzzed-out riffs and hallucinatory lyrics recall psychedelic folk-rock legends like T. Rex, but their accelerated tempos and lo-fi sound put them squarely in the camp of modern psych innovators like Ty Segall and Thee Oh Sees. In concert Wand conjures up a swirling fantasyland of wizards and golems, enveloping audiences in their weird-wonderful world with an onslaught of alien guitar tones and effects-drenched vocals. Whether they’re tearing through heavy hitters like “Clearer” or blowing minds with the kaleidoscopic harmonies of “Fire on the Mountain (I-II-III)”, Wand always rocks ticket buyers with an otherworldly concert experience.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Wand formed in Los Angeles in 2013 and quickly made a name for themselves with their noisy yet melodic take on classic psychedelic garage rock. Following split releases with fellow psych rockers Mikal Cronin and Meatbodies, the band signed to Ty Segall’s Drag City sublabel God? and released their debut album Ganglion Reef. They embarked on a tour with Segall in support of the record, and established themselves as a must-see live act with their epic performances. They followed up in early 2015 with their sophomore LP Golem, an acclaimed album that led to more touring. With their third record 1000 Days and an international tour slated for fall 2015, Wand will continue doing what they do best: melting minds with their hallucinatory sound and unforgettable live shows.
