About

Wayne Newton is a singer and entertainer from Norfolk, Virginia. Over the course of his decades-long career, Newton has become synonymous with the glitz and glamor of the Strip, earning the nickname “Mr. Las Vegas.” Getting his start in the 1950s, the then-teen singer was mentored by superstars like Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and Bobby Darin. Some of his best-known songs include “Danke Schoen,” “Red Roses for a Blue Lady” and “Daddy, Don’t You Walk So Fast.” By 1963, he had become a headliner at the Flamingo in Las Vegas and worked his way to being named the highest-grossing act in Sin City history. Through the 1990s, Newton headlined shows at Caesars Palace, MGM Grand Las Vegas and Bally’s before signing a 10-year contract in 1999 as the first-ever headliner-in-residence at the Stardust Resort and Casino — though the deal was cut short in 2005 as a result of the venue’s demolition. In 2016, Newton performed his lounge show Up Close & Personal at Bally’s, followed by his 2019 stint at Caesars Palace to celebrate his 60th year on stage. In 2024, Newton will embark on his Up Close and Personal Tour.

  • Wayne Newton

We felt that it was difficult to understand many of his songs as the sound in the auditorium was very poor. Wayne himself gives an all round wonderful performance, just wish we could have heard him better.

This singer started singing in Las Vegas in 1959.....when Elvis was in the army!!! His voice is not what it used to be but he is as charming as ever!! I am seeing him again next month in LV. If you are a fan you must see him before he retires in late 2010

  • Wayne Newton is fabulous

It was an absolutely great show. He is so talented with all the instruments he can play. We enjoyed every moment of the evening and wished it could have gone on all night. This was the first time seeing Wayne Newton for myself, my sister and my friend and we can only hope we will be able to see him again in the future. He is a marvelous entertainer - the best!!!

  • Wayne Newton is Still Sexy!

Awesome musical show, Wayne has wonderful talent but his voice is cracking too much. His look and talent helped cover it, but the voice is going, sorry Wayne, I still love you and bought the niteshirt! But we are all aging, maybe he needs to find another sexy man who likes to sing his songs, to do duo's with.

  • Very enjoyable concert.....

  • wayne newton.....don't go

by belfaster on 2009-11-17Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 1 out of 5

Wayne Newton has lost his voice. He could not sing and could barely speak. He needs to retire. The show was painful to watch. We wanted to leave but felt bad for him. He sang/talked about 4 songs and never all the way through. His back-up singers carried him and also did solo spots. He couldn't hold a note or key. We were shocked as were many around us. Some audiences members thought he might have been drunk or on something. We were expecting him to apologize for his voice but nothing was said and the band, back-up singers and Wayne carried on for 1&1/2 excruciating hours. Very sad!

  • Wayne Newton still has it

by Anonymous on 2009-11-16Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 5 out of 5

Sat. Nov 14, 2009 was a great night, we seen Wayne Newton live at Casino Rama. Wayne sang some of his greatest song, told jokes, played five different instruments and shared the stage with his band and up singers which were all great. I seen Wayne Newton about 34 years ago and was wowed then and was wowed again. I would go back to see him in a instant.

  • Wayne Newton has lost his voice

by Bongo on 2009-11-16Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 2 out of 5

I was glad to see Wayne Newton as I have always liked him, however, his singing disappointed me. Actually at first I wondered if he had a few drinks before coming on stage. He really can't sing any more. I think he would have been better if he sang more of his own songs. He is still a good entertainer. His jokes were good. But I think he relies on his backup singers and band too much. Band was too loud but I think it was to drown him out a bit, which it did. I'm glad I didn't pay too much for these tickets and I am glad I had good seats.

  • Wayne Newton Was Fantastic!!

I am 24 years old and I absolutely feel in love with Mr.Newton! After the concert we found out that they had a meet and greet before the show for the Diamond Club members only, I only wish that fans that were not Diaomd Club players at the Casino were offered the meet and greet as well. That would have truly completed my whole Wayne Newton experience. I also wish it was a younger crowd in the audience to give Mr.Newton the standing ovation that he truly deserves. He has been a entertaining the world for over 50 years and I was completely star struck. I say Danke Schoen to you Wayne Newton! Thank you!

  • disappointing

I have always wanted to see Wayne Newton. When I heard that he was doing one more show "before I go", I thought what an opportunity. Then. I heard that he was going to be in Rama on the 13/14 of November. I was able to get tickets, and one of my friends and I made the 4 hour journey to fulfill a 46 year old dream. How disappointed I was. He should not be singing anymore. He can no longer sing. People walked out. I stayed to the end of the show, which by the way, was very entertaining. When he played an instrument he was great, but he can no longer sing. He needs to stop doing this. I am sure glad we didn't go all the way to Vegas to see thim. It was painful to watch, he really needs to not sing anymore.

  • Wayne Newton

by Musicalentertainer on 2009-11-15Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 5 out of 5

Wayne Newton is a fabulous showman and entertainer, but his voice is shot and evidently from what I heard has been for a few years. He had a lot of trouble even talking to the audience on the microphone. He really showed his versatility when he played the guitar, banjo and violin. Spanish eyes was the best song the whole night and it was an instrumental. The orchestra and back-up singers were great! The sound technician was terrible because most of the time the orchestra was drowning Wayne out. For the price of $46.00 for tickets it was worth seeing Wayne Newton, but I certainly wouldn't have paid Las Vegas ticket prices, i.e. $165.00 - $200.00 per ticket.

Wayne can still play instrumentals using a variety of instruments. He was unable to sing anyof his songs. ( Appears to have lost his voice.

  • Wayne Newton can still wow the crowd

    by hamman32 on 2009-11-15Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 5 out of 5

The band was very good, some hijinks, as expected. A good variety of music & joking. The only problem was that I forgot the ear plugs!! Normal sound output for RAMA is 100 decibels (dbs) and they were running 110 to 120dbs & on the GOSPEL solo, she must have hit 130 dbs.( I have been in electronics for 60 years, I'm 77, ) If it had been anyone other than Wayne Newton, I would have walked out !!!! I've done it for a couple of shows. The AVALON at Fallsview is 1/5th the size of RAMA & seating is 1,000 -1,500, & they run 100 dbs!! I went to see Gary Sinese with a friend and we walked out before they finished their first song !!!!!!!

Wayne.... I watched you on Ed Sullivan when you were 14 years old and at concerts a number of times throughout your early career. You were an outstanding artist and entertainer and I will chairish those memories in my heart forever. Last night when you explained to the audience that you took up playing a number of instruments in order to save your voice said it all. You are still a fabulous entertainer, but your voice is gone or needs a long rest. I think you know it as well....so do what is right and get on with your life and go out while on top.....All the best.

  • Time to retire

Great band, good songs, Wayne is amazing musician. However, his voice is just not strong enough...time to retire.
