This show was spectacular. Singing was incredible. Dancing was amazing. I would go see it again and again.

West Side Story slow but lovely

by kwitek on 2010-07-30Palace Theatre New York - New York

West Side Story gives a different look at Romeo and Juliet. It offers a different ending. The costumes are very well done. Dancing and singing is incredible. Some comic relief but not enough. It was a bit slow on the entertaining side especially for a last night out, it did not go out with a bang.

West Side Story: WE LOVED IT!!!

by PamAndAlexa on 2010-07-25Palace Theatre New York - New York

Five of us went to the Palace Theatre to see this fabulous show. Two of us are kids, the other three are older, but kids at heart. The dancing was really cool and made us want to get up and dance, too; the sets were great -- they looked so real! -- and the music and songs are wonderful and we're still singing them! The cast was super-energetic and they really put their hearts into it. Don't miss this one, even if you've seen the movie a billion times before (like some of us have!). P.S. Be sure to take a few tissues with you.

Although some of the actors really stood out, there were constantly too many people on stage so it was hard to follow both the actions and words of the main characters. I gave it an average rather than a fair or poor since it was a high school production and I thought a lot of the actors were really amazing.

    West Side Yawn

by Glennn on 2010-05-13Palace Theatre New York - New York

Lethargic pace. Unconvincing characters. Set was unimpressive. Dancing was good. But overall, I simply wan't moved. I left the theatre the same as I went in, but $150 dollars poorer. I also saw Phantom and Evil, which were both outstanding.

    I feel pretty

An amazing show. The athleticism of the dancers, and the choreography makes it all worthwhile for this classic show.

    Westside Story was ok

by derek1958 on 2010-04-26Palace Theatre New York - New York

The show and story line was ok. I found some parts a bit slow and combined with the heat in the theater it caused the eyes to close and dose off to sleep. The second half was better acting than the first. Some of the singing was below my expectations for a broadway show and there were time it was very difficult to understand what was being said. I found some actors did not speak clearly. Even when they represent different cultures it is important that the audience can understand the words being said.

    hard to understand

by tdhcanada on 2010-04-04Palace Theatre New York - New York

The bilingual aspect of this show made it extremely hard to follow....we would have been completely lost had we not already known the storyline. The female lead (Maria) was particularly difficult to understand unfortunately...even in English. On the positive side, the choreography was excellent.

    Well done

by CanadianSal1 on 2010-03-22Palace Theatre New York - New York

The acting was well played. There needed to be more of a connection between Maria and Tony... didn't feel it. It was hard to hear from the upper balcony though. Couldn't always make out what the actors were saying.

too much speaking spanish and using the bad words and not approperiate. all kind of people are at the theatre, including teen agers. I am sorro to see and hear such a thing in this kind of show. does it make a differnece betwwen the countries and cities to do so? using the clothes and background was so cheap.

    Simply breathtaking

by chamkat on 2009-09-23Palace Theatre New York - New York

From start to finish, the show was wonderful. Given that this is such a great story with dramatic music to support it, it was pretty much guarenteed to be a success. However, the actors were so talented, had such beautiful voices, and the decor was so well done that it surpassed my expectations. I just loved every minute of it!!! The musicians were exceptionnal. This is a very complex piece of music and such a treat to listen to. A must!

    This version sucked!

by Lech on 2009-09-08Palace Theatre New York - New York

I am a huge Broadway fan, have seen Wicked 8 times and Mamma Mia 6.I have seen West Side Story before and loved it. I could not believe how awful and boring this staging of WSS was - I almost left the theater more than once but was with my 12 year old daughter and didnt want to give her a message that we are quitters! The fact that the entire rendition of "I Feel Pretty" was entirely in Spanish says it all - not only is that such a classic song that one is dying to sing along to and most of us cant in Spanish, but if you dont speak Spanish the song doesnt even make sense!! Too much of the play was in Spanish which made it difficult to follow - there are many creative ways to remain authentic and still have the characters speak most of the lines in English, which is certainly what most audiences expect. I want my money back!!!

    Still Wonderful

by GranpaP on 2009-08-28Palace Theatre New York - New York

A great fun story, well told in music and dance , by a very talented cast. For the mass of the sudience perhaps too much in Spanish, and some inaapropriate gestures for younder audience participants....fortunately these "suggestive words & gestures" were apparently missed by my 11 year old grandchildren
