About

WICKED is a Tony-winning sensation that has been defying gravity and delighting Broadway audiences since 2003. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the fantastical prequel to The Wizard of Oz was nominated for 10 Tony Awards after it opened at the Gershwin Theatre in New York City, and won three, including Best Actress for Idina Menzel, who played the original Elphaba. The musical’s first national tour opened in 2005 and ever since, WICKED’s touring production has criss-crossed North America offering theatergoers one short day in the Emerald City filled with magic, music and the ”untold true story of the Witches of Oz.” The second national tour — known as the “Munchkinland Tour” — has been an open-ended production since 2009 and now stars Olivia Valli as Elphaba and Celia Hottenstein as Glinda.

Wicked: An excellent and impressive spectacle

by Kurt on 2009-07-15Orpheum Theatre - San Francisco

This play is a take off of the classic Wizard of Oz story, and it is full of as much wonder and glammer as any movie. The cast performs solidly, the effects are first rate, and it's fun for the whol family.

    Wicked (San Francisco)

by Ozzy on 2009-07-15Orpheum Theatre - San Francisco

Wicked is wonderful. If you want a top-notch, Broadway caliber experience in San Francisco you must go. The story is the based on the lives of the witches of the Wizard of Oz when they were young. You'll gain a whole new insight into their psyche, and a new take on the classic tale. Most importantly, you will have fun! I must mention that the beautifully detailed costumes of the ensemble seem to change at the twinkle of a nose.

    A great nite of fun!!

by shrink on 2009-07-13Orpheum Theatre - San Francisco

My wife and I attended Wicked in San Francisco. Even though the performance was a Thursday night, it was packed out. The audience was enthused as I was. Delightfully clever script. Terrific acting and a very professional cast of characters. Well worth the price - at any price! It stays with you. Highly recommended.
