About

WICKED is a Tony-winning sensation that has been defying gravity and delighting Broadway audiences since 2003. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the fantastical prequel to The Wizard of Oz was nominated for 10 Tony Awards after it opened at the Gershwin Theatre in New York City, and won three, including Best Actress for Idina Menzel, who played the original Elphaba. The musical’s first national tour opened in 2005 and ever since, WICKED’s touring production has criss-crossed North America offering theatergoers one short day in the Emerald City filled with magic, music and the ”untold true story of the Witches of Oz.” The second national tour — known as the “Munchkinland Tour” — has been an open-ended production since 2009 and now stars Olivia Valli as Elphaba and Celia Hottenstein as Glinda.

    Wicked was wicked

by myquest on 2009-08-14Orpheum Theatre - San Francisco

So I bought tickets to WICKED as a gift for my girlfriend. Seriously, I did not want to go to a musical or better yet a musical about THE WIZARD OF OZ. Boy, was I surprised. This was an awesome show. I repeat. It was really awesome. The story moved along well, the songs were fun and there was a lot of comedy relief, making it very enjoyable for all.

    Wicked-ly Delightful!

by wickedfan on 2009-08-07Orpheum Theatre - San Francisco

This musical is fantastic. The musical numbers are catchy and fun. The stage and props are whimsicle and extravagant. It is great how the storyline from the Wizard of Oz is brought into this musical at various times just to tie them together! Loved every moment of it!

    Captivating Show!

by Sandy14 on 2009-07-31Orpheum Theatre - San Francisco

"Wicked" was amazing!! I haven't seen very many large scale shows before, but I heard this one was unbelieveable and didn't want to miss the experience. I dragged my husband with me and he LOVED it. I would recommend this show to anyone. The actors had me on the edge of my seat. I was captivated by the talent, but also the little personality quirks that the "good" and "bad" witch brought to the stage. They made me feel like I was a part of the show. Unbelieveable.

by DorothyofKanas on 2009-07-30Orpheum Theatre - San Francisco

Wicked was amazing! The play was funny, well done and it fit perfectly into the Wizard of Oz movie. It gives a whole new perspective on the Wicked Witch of the West.

    Very deep and touchingly human

by Manak165 on 2009-07-26Orpheum Theatre - San Francisco

When I told my best of 36 years that I was visitng SF, he so enthusiastically recommended me to see the musical play and insisted that "Wicked" would give me more pleasure than Prada sandals. I was skeptical but bought the tickets online (one for my co-worker as well). My first pleasant surprise was to see Patty Duke's name in the cast. She has been one of my all-time favourite actresses ever. She is still an incredible actress! All in all, the whole play had many layers and depths. I cried, laughed, got angry with those ignorant and shallow people and was deeply touched by what friendship is all about. A real emotional roller-coaster!

    Wicked fun!

by Luvlees on 2009-07-24Orpheum Theatre - San Francisco

I really enjoyed the show. Terrific sets but sometimes seemed like a little too much going on. Tons of fun choreography. Loved the school stuff. And all the green lights! Patty Duke was very good on stage - great stage presence. A few of the others seemed to get overshadowed. Loved the theatre. Kind'a rubby area of town - did not feel safe outside. Show security was out for a while before and after show which was good. Still, overall, glad we went and would go again.

    Wicked

by Squinky on 2009-07-24Orpheum Theatre - San Francisco

Wicket was a good show but was a bit off at times. Really good production value. The witch was great had a great voice. A little cheesy at times but musicals should be. Parts of the story felt like it was dragging on and at times I wish it would just end.

by VancouverVince on 2009-07-24Orpheum Theatre - San Francisco

The theatre and set looked amazing. Excellent story and singing was impressive. Great for all ages and the story as a prequel to Wizard of Oz had no holes.

Got what I was asking for!

by Balthazar on 2009-07-23Orpheum Theatre - San Francisco

Really a great show! Entertaining as hell and awesome singing. The only negative point I can think of is that English isn't my first language and I had problems to get all that jokes or lyrics because they are said singing and I did not understood it all (throught I got the general meaning). anyways it was really nice and creative and worth the money,

    Wicked In San Francisco

by docmatt on 2009-07-23Orpheum Theatre - San Francisco

Wicked is an incredible experience for anyone interested in theater, music, impressive characters and/or the behind the scenes story of The Wizard of Oz. Costumes, lighting and all the special effects brought cheers, applause and laughter from the audience. The Orpheum Theater itself is a great venue (although street signage in the theater district is a bit light) and the whole event is a wonderful reminder that one should 'not judge a book by its cover' or 'a person by the colour of her skin'!

    Wickedly Brilliant

by docbraino on 2009-07-18Orpheum Theatre - San Francisco

Seeing Wicked in it's hometown (San Fransisco) was simply brilliant ! The original editors in hollywood cut out too much cellinoid. The "reel" story is told of courage, heart and friendship. I have many friends, of a few I can call close, and I see the same values in them, true blue.

    Wicked (San Francisco) was spectacular

by gjsmith on 2009-07-15Orpheum Theatre - San Francisco

We really enjoyed this show from beginning to end. The lead characters were very well cast and had great voices. The special effects and costumes were perfect, compelling but not over powering. The Orpheum Theatre was a great venue, and we're looking forward to our next trip back to the area. This really made our trip. Loved it !
