About

WICKED is a Tony-winning sensation that has been defying gravity and delighting Broadway audiences since 2003. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the fantastical prequel to The Wizard of Oz was nominated for 10 Tony Awards after it opened at the Gershwin Theatre in New York City, and won three, including Best Actress for Idina Menzel, who played the original Elphaba. The musical’s first national tour opened in 2005 and ever since, WICKED’s touring production has criss-crossed North America offering theatergoers one short day in the Emerald City filled with magic, music and the ”untold true story of the Witches of Oz.” The second national tour — known as the “Munchkinland Tour” — has been an open-ended production since 2009 and now stars Olivia Valli as Elphaba and Celia Hottenstein as Glinda.

The cast of Wicked were fantastic...funny, energetic, songs and dances were very entertaining. The wicked witch was very very well done. The scenery, the music excellent. The most entertaining character by far was Glinda. She was hilarious, and has such a beautiful voice. It was seeing the story was a completely different perspective.

I actually went twice this year when they came. It was simply one of the best performances I have seen in a very long time. The professionalism, dedication, the props, costumes, it was Wonderful! It was my daughters 11th birthday on the day we went and she was so happy that the minute it was over she wanted to see it again! I would travel to see this show again! :)

Even without know the entire premise for Wizard of Oz, Wicked is highly entertaining and provides humor, tragedy, romance throughout the entire production. The play evolves over time in an easy to follow manner. Surprise ending.

Fun production; great costumes & sets. Loved the music. A few too many high squeaky voices which made it difficult to understand.

    Wicked was beyond wicked!!

by dsfarms on 2014-08-20Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The production was first class and couldn't have been happier....totally enjoyable evening and the seats were amazing. Except for the fact parents brought kids who were too young to enjoy it and spent the whole time in front of us stretching her arms and bopping around.

I will never get tired of this show!

by Vanyaloth on 2014-08-20Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

I have now seen Wicked 4 times in various locations, and I love it every single time. Highly recommended. I will always enjoy seeing this show. My only negative comment (and the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars) is that whoever was running the soundboard wasn't doing a very good job. The actors were more often than not drowned out by the orchestra. It sounded like the tech would lower the mic levels when the orchestra came in fully. There were also a few moments where the actors' mics were just off when they had lines to speak so we lost the first half of their phrase while the tech scrambled to get their mics turned back on. Very sloppy tech work.

by Mocktails on 2014-08-20Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

I have listened to the Wicked soundtrack since it first came out and of course fell in love with the songs, but until now I have not been able to see the show. August 17th I was finally able to see the show in Calgary and I was so entertained! The voices were terrific, the show was funny, the costumes were incredible and the stage and lighting was mesmerizing. I highly recommend this highly profesional touring production!

    Wicked is an absolute must-see!!

by dorothya on 2014-08-20Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

This musical was by far one of my favourites. The cast was phenomenal, the singing was spectacular was amazing - I couldn't get enough. I feel like I really lived the story of the journey of two friends. I have seen musicals in NYC, Las Vegas and London and this one was on par if not the best. Don't miss the chance to see this production, you won't regret it.

The show sounded amazing but the way the seating was in the theatre was awful. We could not see anything except the person in front of us. Everyone around us was complaining of the same thing. I would say I didn't even see 25% of the show. I feel like I could have bought the sound track and saved $360.00.

    Funny and Touching

by Skeletrix on 2014-08-20Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

What an amazing show. Lively from the very beginning. Galinda has an amazing voice and her songs are fun and upbeat and soulful when they need to be. Alphaba was also played by an amazing actress, her wit and humor was very sharp and she was vulnerable and honest when it called for it. the rest of the cast was amazing, their voices, the dancing, the whole spectacle was wonderful. Fantastic show.

Wiced made you laugh, cry, angry, disappointed !

by Jammer258 on 2014-08-20Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The script was amazing and show cased many stereotypes of society, the singing was great, the story meshed well with the Wizard of Oz. It was some dreamy as a musical should be but had a realism the view could connect to emotionally. My absolute favorite musical ever!
