WILCO IN CONCERT:

Though Wilco always uses the sounds of Americana as their launchpad, they’ve managed to explore a universe of musical possibilities over the past twenty years. With his poetic turns of phrase and endearingly raspy vocals, frontman Jeff Tweedy provides a country heart to their music that always wins over fans at their live performances. While he delivers the earthy grit, the rest of the band soars into the stratosphere, incorporating everything from ambient electronica to Dixieland jazz. But they also know how to rock on epics like “Impossible Germany”, “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart”, and “A Shot in the Arm”. Though ticket buyers never quite know what to expect from these innovative musical adventurers, they know they can count on Wilco to deliver a an electrifying, genre-defying concert experience every time they take the stage on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Frontman Jeff Tweedy formed Wilco out of the ashes of his earlier alt-country band Uncle Tupelo, absorbing most of the lineup to release the new band’s 1995 debut A.M. The group quickly developed a reputation for incorporating experimental elements with their next two albums Being There (1996) and Summerteeth (1999). Despite those sonically ambitious releases, nothing prepared fans for the aural onslaught of 2001’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, which pushed the boundaries of music production and defied genre lines all together. The band’s record label famously refused to release the album, while overwhelming fan support and critical adulation lead to a bidding war that netted Wilco a lucrative recording contract. Their next album A Ghost Is Born (2004) won a Grammy for Alternative Album of the Year. Following several critically acclaimed albums and core additions to the group, Wilco remains a vital and restlessly creative force in both their live concerts and their recorded output, which includes 2015’s secretly released Star Wars.

this was the best wilco show i've ever seen. clean, tight, perfect sound, perfect song choices... all in all, perfect! i also appreciated them keeping their "jam band" tendencies in check and only really extending songs when appropriate instead of turning every song into a 12 minute epic.

    HORRID!

This was by far the worst show I have ever seen. I seriously can't believe I wasted $100 on these tickets!

    Wilco was fab!

by Gegica on 2010-02-16Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

They were incredible with not 1 but 4 guitarists at times working the magic together. You've never seen so many guitars and pedals on 1 stage. They played a great range of material from older right up to the new album and Jeff Tweedy sounds pretty much the same live as on an album. They built great sound walls at the end of most of the tunes. Their sense of humour really came through too!

Wilco - Guitar Gods, Who'd a Thunk It

by Anonymous on 2010-02-16Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

As a casual listener to Wilco, I was always attracted to their softer stuff, Sky Blue Sky, stuff like that. To see them in person was to come to the realization that these guys are a kick ass rock band with an overwhelming ensemble of face melting guitarists. Something very special indeed.

by tubes on 2010-02-16Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I've seen Wilco play at the Northern Alberta Jubilee three times now and at a festival once every time I come away swearing that it was one of the best shows I've ever been too!! Jeff Tweedy and the boys absolutely rock out and know how to put on an AMAZING show. Check them out if you want to be entertained by a great rock band.

Wilco is the king of band you need to see live!!!

by nec05 on 2010-02-16Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

The sound Wilco get out of those guitars is amazing. All three guitars complement each other perfectly. The show is fun. The lead singer has a good sense of humor and entertains the audience between songs. They are the kind of band that enjoys playing in front of an audinence, that you can tell are having fun and not just going with the motion because they have to. I never saw them before but I was very impressed. For those of you who like guitars, you will see lots of Fenders and Gibsons.

    Another Spectacular Wilco Show

by lewoodha on 2010-02-16Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Again Wilco delivered! It was great to see Edmontonians shake off the formal setting of the Jubilee theatre and dance to music that was meant to dance to. Awesome set list from present to past favourites.

    A fan-pleasing set from the Alt-Country Kings

by MattyBoomBatty on 2009-10-18Massey Hall - Toronto

On this magical night, Wilco delivered all the hits fans would expect. They played a few tracks from the recent album but mostly stuck to the classics. Massey Hall is a perfect venue for these guys and you could tell they were confortable playing here. Great crowd participation too.

Wilco Always Delivers a Fantastic Show!

by freemoth on 2009-10-17Massey Hall - Toronto

Didn't realize that, although we managed to get seats down in the main area for a change, they were partially obstructed by a pole. Wasn't too bad but watch out for O54-55. Wilco, of course, were fantstic. Incredible musicians and Jeff Tweedy was in a good mood and seemed to be having a great time. Of course the audience was also in fine form, appreciative and enthusiastic, with a highlight being our singing along to Jesus, etc. and Tweedy highlighting, 'Our love is all of god's money', one of those classic Tweedy observations. The sound was fantastic and the band tight and happening. They played music ranging from every album from the first to the new. Fantastic show!! Thanks Wilco. Freely, Moth

    Great Live Band

by Detox on 2009-10-16Massey Hall - Toronto

A band that tours so much becomes so tight playing together and it was no surprise - they were great. I love the sonic palette especially when there is that sudden change from sparse to a wall of tsunami sound crashing over you. Liam Finn (the opener) was great to see.

    Wilco Loves You Baby

by Flaremaster on 2009-10-16Massey Hall - Toronto

Great show in a great venue. A nice blend of material - did stuff from Being There up to the new record. Too bad the show ended at 11:00pm - it's a union thing with Massey Hall. A great way to see Wilco - and everybody should. It isn't very often that you get to see a band that treats their work as an art form - no bling, just beautiful music.

Ditch the warm up act. Fans sit down. It's hard for the 50+ crowd to stand for 2 hours

    Well Worth the Trip

by tritucker on 2009-07-25Red Rocks Amphitheatre - Morrison

We flew from Vancouver to Denver specifically to see Wilco and Okkervil River at Red Rocks. Both bands were excellent. Wilco played a wide-ranging set and the band was extremely tight. Nels Cline was amazing, he seemed to be allowed a little more freedom than the last time we saw Wilco. The new songs sounded great live. The show was heavy on A Ghost is Born (not one of my favourites) but those tunes also sound great live, especially Spiders.

    Best Wilco Show Yet!

by wilcofanns on 2009-07-19Maine State Pier - Portland

We came from Nova Scotia to see this show. This was our third Wilco concert and won't be the last. This was the first time we ever saw Wilco in the US and it was amazing. Great venue and the band was tighter than ever!
