2014 bbq and blue festival was great. Colin James rocked the house on Saturday night and both days had excellent bands. Can't wait until next year.

    Winnipeg BBQ & Blues Festival

by Frontosa on 2013-08-31Red River Exhibition Park - Winnipeg

I really enjoyed the weekend of music. I went last year and fully enjoyed the Hot Warm Weekend like this year. Wide Mouth Mason continue to rock the venue. I could review all the entertainment, but all would say they were all fantastic. People like Dave (who lent out his equipment to a band and then did a jam with them). I enjoyed the local Canadian entertainment. Also, the Winnipeg groups were no slugs. All bands rocked the city. Winnipeg is a great and excellent place for the blues. There is not enough blues in this city.At the height of the the day there are three stages. I have in my mind commited to enjoying next year. Please do the early bird on line tickets. You will not regret it. Again 5/5 for the whole weekend.

    Well worth the money

by Debs on 2013-08-21Red River Exhibition Park - Winnipeg

The music and place where it was held was very good. Just a little disorganized with not understanding the BBQ and truck thing. I asked at the info booth, but they didn't know either. The program for the Blues had a picture where the BBQ and truck thing was, but nothing written down. I had to ask one of the BBQ participants what it was all about. And the truck thing was like there were a lot of trucks parked in the parking lot, just sitting there. It's like they weren't part of the show at all.

having attended to the inaugural festival last year and this one I must say that I liked the entertainment better last year also found that it seemed to have a midway atmosphere with all the eating places that one would expect to see at a fair. Also as was the case last year was a gin the case this year in that the coolers were out and any other choice was all but nil

Great lineup. Thoroughly enjoyed the music.

by waybet on 2013-08-20Red River Exhibition Park - Winnipeg

Most improvement over last year was the food vendors. No huge lineups and delicious food. Good variety of different types of blues music. Loved Wide Mouth Mason and Ana Popovich. The crowd seemed enthusiastic. One suggestion - When it cools off at night all 5 of us would have loved a good cup of coffee and maybe some good old fashioned cinnamon buns.. Saw quite a lot of people doing a run to Tim Horton's. This would be lost revenue to the festival.

    BBQ+Blues

by AliBaba88 on 2013-08-20Red River Exhibition Park - Winnipeg

Great venue and a good job done for the second year. Hope that it goes on for many years. My only complaints would be that though Wide Mouth Mason is a fine band in their own rights, you can't call it blues in any way shape or form Also, Smokers should be delegated to a specific area. Man I sucked up enough second-hand smoke to do me for the rest of the year. Otherwise, again a great venue and enjoyable for everyone.

    detonators were great

by cruiser409 on 2013-08-20Red River Exhibition Park - Winnipeg

we were disappointed that the detonators were cut short on Sunday. Quite frankly we were disappointed with the shortage of traditional blues this weekend (we attended from 400kms. out of town) We were there last year and enjoyed the musicians much more. In fact, some of our group paid for a cab back to the hotel in order to leave early Saturday night!!

    BBQ & Blues Festival

by Mema on 2013-08-19Red River Exhibition Park - Winnipeg

This is the second year we attended this venue. Improvements over last year were noticed. No long lines for food because of extra food trucks. Way to go!! There was even popcorn. Friday night was virtually the same except there were more food stations for testing the product (chili) from the three eateries. Monkeyjunk was terrific. Saturday's musicians were amazing....Sojourners were soothing, Wide Mouth Mason got the crowd dancing and Ana Popovic with her "Janice Joplin" voice and excellent guitar playing was out of this world....really we even bought her CD. Why would you put the main entertainers on a Sunday night? We had conflicted events so couldn't attend that evening. All in all, the festival organizers are doing well. Still did not find coffee to purchase, but we'll leave that for you to amend to next year. Thanks so much for two nights of wonder. We will be back next year.

Great time - much improved over last year

by notporky on 2013-08-19Red River Exhibition Park - Winnipeg

The year there was some top notch entertainment - I loved Monkey Junk. Wide Mouth Mason , Mark Hummel and especially Ana Popovic. Ana had one of the tightest bacd I've heard in a long time and she was amazing. If there's another chance to bring her back - Please DO IT. Refreshment service was very prompt and courteous, grounds were in excellent shape and the lights on the trees (don't remember from last year) really gave the scene some real charm. Last year I said it would be 50/50 whether I'd go this year and now I can say for certain I'll be back next year if they keep musicians like this on the roster. PS I stayed away from the chilli wars, because last years burger wars was sooo badly run, but look forward to others reviews restoring my faith.

    Disappointing

by floodwaygurl on 2013-08-19Red River Exhibition Park - Winnipeg

Not enough of a food selection, more BBQ food options would of been nice. The bands were okay, nothing spectacular. Sadly the chili tasting on Saturday afternoon was the highlight of our visit.

    chili contest

by billybobjoehenry on 2013-08-19Red River Exhibition Park - Winnipeg

All the chili was bad - it's like the chefs from all three had know idea what chili was. Here is a great opportunity to make next year's chili contest bigger and better. Need to search out more competition and get their local licensed restaurant to sponsor them.

Needs more things to keep me coming back

by BBEN on 2013-08-19Red River Exhibition Park - Winnipeg

This is the second year I have been here. Not much has changed from the year before. The music was great but to sit for 3 days does start to get boring. There should be more things to see and do. Like have a chili and or a baked bean cook off offered to the public to participate in . This is supposed to be a BBQ and blues fest but most of the food venders don't have BBQ, Even if you had Hotdog carts that is still BBQ. Beers at $6.00 each too expensive you would have sold a lot more if it was $5.00. Don't get me wrong I did enjoy myself but next year I don't think I will take in the full 3 days, unless a lot more is offered.

    Jimmie Vaughan

by tata5 on 2012-08-29Red River Exhibition Park - Winnipeg

There was not enough information for Friday night. We thought it was an outside event. The event inside was crazy people were lined up for 3-hours 4-deep .we didn't know it was for the burgers, a volunteer finally came and told everyone and then told the people to make 3-lines?(little late)I would not stand in line for 3-hours for a buger. We had to stand the whole time no place to sit.some of the volunteers had to much to drink The bathrooms were awsome very clean.Oh we did find some infor for SaT & Sun. Please don't bring back Little miss Higgins she was awfull. We are over 50 and yes we will be back Thanks PS sorry we didn't make Sunday next year
