Winnipeg Jets History

The Winnipeg Jets were founded in 1997 as the Thrashers, and began play in the 1999–2000 NHL season, spending 11 seasons in Atlanta and making the playoffs once in 2006-2007. In 2011, the franchise was sold to True North Sports and Entertainment, which relocated the team to Winnipeg and adopted the name of the city's original franchise in the World Hockey Association, the Jets.

Major league hockey dates back to 1972 in Winnipeg, which was home to one of the founding franchises of the WHA and one of four (along with Quebec, Hartford and Edmonton) to join the NHL when the leagues merged in 1979. The original Jets moved to Phoenix in 1996 and became the Phoenix Coyotes (then the Arizona Coyotes, who were in play from 1994 to 2024). In the 14 seasons that the Jets have been in Winnipeg, they’ve made eight playoff appearances, including a run to the Western Conference Finals in 2018.

In 2016, the team established the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame, with the "Hot Line" trio of Anders Hedberg, Bobby Hull and Ulf Nilsson as the inaugural inductees. Recent inductees include Teemu Selänne and Teppo Numminen.

Everything was great as usual with Ticketmaster. That said, hopefully you can do something to steer people away from Ticketfaster, which sure is easy to fall for if you're not used to the Ticketmaster website and are new to buying tickets that way. Pretty easy to click on Ticketfaster if you google the name, as Ticketfaster's ad is the first to come up. A friend of mine bought these tickets and thankfully asked me for help after starting the process and I was able to steer them to the right site after they had originally gotten onto Ticketfaster. From what I can see the price would have been $100 or more for the same tickets, not to mention I have no idea if that site is even legit. The reviews were sketchy at best.

First Winnipeg Jets Game since the return of the Jets. The service, The staff and The safe environment provided by the Canada Life Centre was so amazing. Thank you for the great night, can’t wait till the next time. I loved the laser lights on the ice, so cool. Jets win 4-1 over Sharks.

Jets have such a fun team to watch this year. We decided to go to 5 or 6 games this season. Great lazer light show, atmosphere was awesome, beverages/snacks were good, great company, & Jets won 5-1. Thats 5/5 for me.

I enjoy going to the games. The jets where playing good in the first two periods and quit give there all in the third. They have to give there all in three periods.

  • 1st Ever Toque Trick!!!

by Jetsfan234 on 2021-10-28Canada Life Centre (Previously Bell MTS Place) - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Although the Ducks opened the scoring, I knew the Jets would respond. Pierre-Luc Dubois tied the game shortly thereafter. Andrew Copp scored the game winner in the second. Josh Morrissey and Kyle Connor scored in the third. Although Connor scored only two goals, some fans threw toques on the ice. I guess they lost count ha ha ha. It was sure fun to be at Canada Life Centre with fans in the building. Go Jets Go!!!

  • Top Notch!

by Theresa on 2021-10-26Canada Life Centre (Previously Bell MTS Place) - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Top notch from start to finish. Checking vax cards and tickets was well-organized, quick and the staff was friendly and welcoming. Food is great (I recommend the Jet Dog). There’s not a bad seat in the house. It’s always fun when our team wins, but the on-ice projection, music and announcing made it super exciting. Overall, a fantastic night!

  • Jets games

    by E. R. on 2020-03-12Bell MTS Place - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

I saw two Jets games during my stay in Winnipeg. The first (against Las Vegas Golden Knights) was booked before I left home so I was finally going to see an ice hockey game during my visit. My hotel was very close to Bell MTS Place so easy enough to walk there. The members of staff were very helpful directing me to the right area where I could find my seat. I was very excited seeing Jets fans wearing the gear and listening to them singing their National Anthem. The game was so much fun, I’m really pleased I got into it despite not being entirely familiar with the rules. They won that game and I couldn’t wait to buy a T-shirt as a memory of my first game. The day before leaving Winnipeg I was lucky to get another ticket (against Arizona Coyotes). I had the T-shirt so I could show my support better and was excited to be in the atmosphere one more time, I enjoyed myself just as much as the last time, and the Jets won again after a tense game. A positive way to end my first visit.

  • Another awesome game

by Karri on 2020-02-25Bell MTS Place - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

We have been to about 10 Winnipeg Jets games in the past 5 years and I have bought at least half of the game tickets through Ticket Master. The Winnipeg Jets have won every single game we have been to so needless to say we will be going to more games in the future.
