Winnipeg Jets History

The Winnipeg Jets were founded in 1997 as the Thrashers, and began play in the 1999–2000 NHL season, spending 11 seasons in Atlanta and making the playoffs once in 2006-2007. In 2011, the franchise was sold to True North Sports and Entertainment, which relocated the team to Winnipeg and adopted the name of the city's original franchise in the World Hockey Association, the Jets.

Major league hockey dates back to 1972 in Winnipeg, which was home to one of the founding franchises of the WHA and one of four (along with Quebec, Hartford and Edmonton) to join the NHL when the leagues merged in 1979. The original Jets moved to Phoenix in 1996 and became the Phoenix Coyotes (then the Arizona Coyotes, who were in play from 1994 to 2024). In the 14 seasons that the Jets have been in Winnipeg, they’ve made eight playoff appearances, including a run to the Western Conference Finals in 2018.

In 2016, the team established the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame, with the "Hot Line" trio of Anders Hedberg, Bobby Hull and Ulf Nilsson as the inaugural inductees. Recent inductees include Teemu Selänne and Teppo Numminen.

We get 4 tickets from Ticketmaster for this game every year on my grandson's birthday. Jets games are all fantastic, but this one was special because of the fete. Very easy to use the etransfer and meet up inside.

  • Good show, good hockey, too expensive

by crusaderx2 on 2017-12-17Bell MTS Place (Formerly MTS Centre) - WinnipegRating: 2 out of 5

Good game, goos entertainment. However, the price much too high for the quality of the show. $210 each is too much for 4 people to go see a game.

Jets played very good .This was my 6th game this year. 4-2 .The only gripe i have about this game was the people next to me were not very friendly .They gave me and anyone else a dirty look if you got up to leave your seat for any reason.Other than that GO JETS GO Looking foreward to St.Louis on Sunday.

  • Is this real life?

by JetsDad on 2017-11-30Bell MTS Place (Formerly MTS Centre) - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Incredible game!!! From seeing our boys start off the game down by 2 to finishing 7-2 over the Minnesota Wild was an absolute spectical. It was the first game I took my son to this year and he said it was his favourite game ever. I wish every jets game was this electric. So many huge plays and such tension between the two teams made for a physical and exciting game. Me and my son had an awesome time and look forward to the next game.

by JoPa on 2017-10-23Bell MTS Place (Formerly MTS Centre) - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Sat in the top row of the 300 level in section 316. Good seats up there actually. Event staff are polite and helpful. Jumbo Jet dog with perogies and a cold beer were tastey. Expensive but what do you expect!
