Winnipeg Jets History

The Winnipeg Jets were founded in 1997 as the Thrashers, and began play in the 1999–2000 NHL season, spending 11 seasons in Atlanta and making the playoffs once in 2006-2007. In 2011, the franchise was sold to True North Sports and Entertainment, which relocated the team to Winnipeg and adopted the name of the city's original franchise in the World Hockey Association, the Jets.

Major league hockey dates back to 1972 in Winnipeg, which was home to one of the founding franchises of the WHA and one of four (along with Quebec, Hartford and Edmonton) to join the NHL when the leagues merged in 1979. The original Jets moved to Phoenix in 1996 and became the Phoenix Coyotes (then the Arizona Coyotes, who were in play from 1994 to 2024). In the 14 seasons that the Jets have been in Winnipeg, they’ve made eight playoff appearances, including a run to the Western Conference Finals in 2018.

In 2016, the team established the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame, with the "Hot Line" trio of Anders Hedberg, Bobby Hull and Ulf Nilsson as the inaugural inductees. Recent inductees include Teemu Selänne and Teppo Numminen.

  • Bell MTS Place is a beautiful facilitiy

by Smittalou on 2017-10-20Bell MTS Place (Formerly MTS Centre) - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

Bell MTS Place is a beautiful facility with amazing fans. The Jets themselves didn't play great the night I saw them, but overall I was impressed.

  • Bell MTS Place upgrades

by Canadian365 on 2017-10-07Bell MTS Place (Formerly MTS Centre) - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

New updated concourse looks great, unfortunately still extremely congested, shoulder to shoulder cramped concourse during intermissions.

Have sat at these seats last year and enjoyed the area, view and quick to get out at the exist door. Have great view of the whole ice and play.

  • Parents First Time at a Winnipeg Jets Game

    by Bambi16 on 2017-04-11MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

I took my parents to the last home game, of the season, of the Winnipeg Jets, for their Christmas Presents. I was able to buy seats in Section 223, and they were unbelievable. The Jets won, and the crowd was loud and proud. My parents enjoyed the experience very much. And so did I, of course.

  • Jets v Sens

by FirstNHLGame on 2017-04-04MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

We had an awesome evening. The arena is fantastic. The staff was well prepared and helpful. Jumbotron was very cool to see up close. Seats were great. Jets win. What more can I say.

Never a dull moment at a jets game! I am a season ticket holder in 300 level but the experience in the Budweiser lounge was awesome

  • Colorado Avalanche game was unforgettable!!!

by MotherDaughterCrew on 2017-03-07MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Bought tickets to this game for my husbands 40th b'day ... My husband is a huge Avalanche fan :) The game was unforgettable especially when they gave the puck away on the breakaway and kept tripping and falling on the ice :O Tell us about your seats: I would not recommend these seats because the season pass holder directly behind us in Row 6 was extremely rude and un sportsmen like ... even after we complained to guest services I felt he was trying to egg us on and get us to react!!! Very disrespectful - Don't sit here! Other than that the view and sound was amazing/awesome :)

Always fantastic to see an NHL game in person! My friend & I loved it! Section 314 - R11 - S 19 & 20 were perfect as you saw the whole thing. Way better than paying the 150.00 + cost!

Enjoyable as the team beat St Louis. Great atmosphere and friendly staff.

  • Not one of the Jets better nights

by Pete on 2017-01-15MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 2 out of 5

The Jets played poorly but the ushers are what got me upset. They need to read the situation better.

  • A HIt With The Kids!

by Marj on 2017-01-04MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

I sent my husband to go with the kids to the Skills Competition. And was lucky enough to get seats that were 4th row from the ice where the glass was removed. The kids came home with stories of how they met some of the players, signed some items for them and caught 2 signed hats! They were excited! What a great experience for them. They loved it. And my husband thought it was great too amid all of the screaming kids...

  • Need more access points for kids to get autographs

    by PaulBlartSec117 on 2016-12-19MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

jets need to come up with a better system for kids to get autographs. the security guards in our section would not let kids get close to to open areas to get autographs. unless you are in front row, its next to impossible

  • Just for kids

    by Boring1234 on 2016-12-19MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 1 out of 5

The skills challenge was poorly organized and the players seemed less than enthusiastic to be there. Over all it was boring and a waste of time.

  • Skills comp a great show for all ages

by JordanV on 2016-12-19MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

A fantastic, fun event that's great for all ages. Geared mostly towards kids, the glass is removed along the length of the ice to allow kids to get up close and personal with the players (and maybe an autograph or two). Fabulous value, great fun!

  • Fun

    by Shannone73 on 2016-12-19MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

This was a super fun event that I took my son and his friend too.. they had a great time! The only negative was the buying experience on the website, I selected specific seats and everytime I went to checkout after my selection they were gone. That part is VERY FRUSTRATING.. this happens often when purchasing tickets.

  • by Carbonblack on 2016-12-04MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

It was an opportunity to witness two teams that pride themselves as being young and fast. Unfortunately, what I witnessed was a team (Edmonton Oilers) which was very fast and skilled especially their captain (Connor McDavid - a very special player)
