Winnipeg Jets History

The Winnipeg Jets were founded in 1997 as the Thrashers, and began play in the 1999–2000 NHL season, spending 11 seasons in Atlanta and making the playoffs once in 2006-2007. In 2011, the franchise was sold to True North Sports and Entertainment, which relocated the team to Winnipeg and adopted the name of the city's original franchise in the World Hockey Association, the Jets.

Major league hockey dates back to 1972 in Winnipeg, which was home to one of the founding franchises of the WHA and one of four (along with Quebec, Hartford and Edmonton) to join the NHL when the leagues merged in 1979. The original Jets moved to Phoenix in 1996 and became the Phoenix Coyotes (then the Arizona Coyotes, who were in play from 1994 to 2024). In the 14 seasons that the Jets have been in Winnipeg, they’ve made eight playoff appearances, including a run to the Western Conference Finals in 2018.

In 2016, the team established the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame, with the "Hot Line" trio of Anders Hedberg, Bobby Hull and Ulf Nilsson as the inaugural inductees. Recent inductees include Teemu Selänne and Teppo Numminen.

  • jets game

by donw on 2024-04-07Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

The game was great. However, the seats are terrible. We could not see over the person in front of us most of the game. No elbow room, no room to let people pass in the row. We have tried different locations at the Arena and the seats are all the same. The tickets and food are too expensive for us to go more often or take the family. Overall disappointed in the True North (new) arena. We have to other arenas and the seats are not this bad. They need to make more room for the people in the seats and lower the prices or we will lose the Jets again.

  • very entertaining

I have attended four games this year. The in-game experience was great. Those two fellows whose job it is to get the crowd excited are often loud and annoying. It seemed to me that their role was significantly reduced during the LAKings game - which i appreciated. I really like the Armed Forces bugler. She was a nice change of pace. I really liked the 3 - 4 minute Cdn Air Force montage that was played in the third period. I was disappointed with the food. I was upstairs and ordered chicken fingers. The food was not hot and the chips that accompanied the chicken were tasteless. They need some type of spice or topping. They were also too plentiful. There is no need for that many chips.

  • Poor seats!

by Bugster on 2024-04-02Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

We were in Sec 307, Row 6, Seats 3, 4, and 5. We had to move every time someone from our row or the rows below needed to leave. It’s the way the stairs and the entry with the glass surrounding it worked out.

Myself and my grandson recently attended a Winnipeg Jets vs the Edmonton Oilers game in Winnipeg and it was excellent. The Canada Life Centre is beautiful venue I would recommend any event at this facility

  • It was pretty fun

by Bill on 2024-03-29Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

We took our kids, 10 and 7. They thought it was pretty amazing. We were a row from the concrete wall and paid $500 for 4 tickets. It’s pretty hard to choke on that but it won’t happen very often so they know it’s a treat. I’d love to go to these games more often but it’s just not something that’s in the budget at those prices. It was a great game and lots of fun. We enjoyed taking the kids down to ice level for warmup before the game.

Without internet access, the establishment was unable to sell snacks and beverages until later in the game. They couldn’t even take cash for coffee because the tills required Internet

I watched coyotes and kraken games when they visited jets respectively. Both games I had a blast, I’m going to more events in the venue soon. Just purchased Winnipeg Sea Bears season tickets and the jets gear shop is awesome. Food and drinks is good however go 10-15 minutes before the game starts.
