Calgary Stampeders History
The Calgary Stampeders are the fifth oldest active franchise in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Founded in 1945, success came early for the Stampeders, who completed the CFL’s only perfect 12-0 regular season and secured their first Grey Cup in 1948. Overall, the Calgary Stampeders have appeared in 17 Grey Cup finals and won eight, in 1948, 1971, 1992, 1998, 2001, 2008, 2014 and 2018. Notably, the Stamps’ championship victories in 2001 and 2008 also stand as the two highest-attended CFL championship games of the 21st century. Throughout the team’s history, Calgary Stampeders players have claimed 11 Most Outstanding Player Awards, nine Most Outstanding Canadian Awards, six Most Outstanding Rookie Awards, four Most Outstanding Defensive Player Awards and eight Annis Stukus Trophies for the CFL’s top head coach. The Calgary Stampeders and the Edmonton Elks are included in the multi-league sports rivalry between the two cities, dubbed the Battle of Alberta.

Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium
McMahon Stadium has been the home of the Stampeders since it opened in 1960. The stadium is owned by the University of Calgary and named after two Calgary residents and brothers, Frank McMahon and George McMahon, who helped fund the facility’s construction. McMahon Stadium was the site of the 1988 Winter Olympics' opening and closing ceremonies and has hosted five Grey Cup finals between 1975, 1993, 2000, 2009 and 2019. The 35,400-seat venue has undergone several expansions and renovations, most notably in 1988, 2001 and 2005. During home games, fans can catch sight of Ralph the Dog, the first mascot of any CFL team, or celebrate a touchdown with the release of a white gelding known as the "Quick Six" horse, who charges along the east sideline.

Great organization. Easy entrance. Fully vaxed. Friendly staff.
easy to find the tickets on the app, easy to use and easy to transfer the extra tickets I didn't need
Good seats but overpriced. The game ended with an exciting finish but overall not the best football. Sat next to an intoxicated Stamps fan who was also obnoxious. Several times (I am not kidding) people in front of us were in the wrong seats creating at least 3 times where there were fans standing during the game
We went to the game as a new Calgarian but a die hard Rider fan. We watched the Riders get schooled by the Stamps for 3 painful quarters and then left. The Riders made a game of it in the 4th but still lost the game. This was our first time going to McMahon stadium and might be our last. The hard bench seats had no back rest, the food was awful, the stadium is old and run down. (Porta-potties...really?) I expected a much better facility from a city the size of Calgary. If REGINA can do it surely Calgary can build something better!
Was a good game. Need be vaccinated to get in. I am so that's not a big deal. Definitely going again.
Your kidding right! How many commercial breaks can the TSN league squeeze into 6 minutes? Sitting around watching the players stand around while the little TSN man with the orange flag comtrolled the game was just too much for me... no more live games for me. PVR HERE I COME!
The Labor day classic was an entertaining game. Sadly the Stampeders are implementing a mandated proof of vaccine against Covid-19 to attend their outdoor events, even though health services has previously said Covid-19 transmission is low outdoors. Sorry, I am not anti-vax just anti-mandate, so I will not be patronizing Ticketmaster in venues where this restriction is required or Stampeder events until this coercion is removed. I suppose that this may result in additional losses to those organizations through like-minded individuals boycotting those businesses implementing such additional restrictions after suffering through forced lock downs in the past.
Calgary Stampeders lost to the Edmonton Elks. The Stampeder cheerleaders the Outriders were beautiful, and talented.
Sat in row 59 and was able to see everything on the field. Had a great time.
The greatest night of my life. Super exciting event.
I’m an Argonaut fan, Argos won. Stamps gave the Argos QB Bethel Thompson time to set up and he picked them apart. Not interested in the fans and stadium, only the mechanics of the game. I used to play football.
The venue is good, the weather was decent, my seats were good, but when I get seats the next time, knowing what I know now, will move a section or 2 over to make sure we have seats with backs on them. Overall, the experience was good.
Very poor sportsmen ship , when they resort to purposely trying to injuring the quarterback’s leg of the Riders . Good thing that the referee caught it and it ending up a game misconduct!!!
This stadium is so antiquated and is in dire need of a renovation or demolition. Long lineups at the washrooms, crowded concourses, terrible food at the concessions, and of course over-priced beer, not to mention a terrible PA system that is hard to understand. This facility does not live up the hype of a progressive Alberta city.
It was a perfect football weather day for sure! Getting and to and from was congested but with 30 odd thousand people there, Calgary Transit does a good job of moving people fairly quickly! I am not really a Stamps fan more BC Lion's as I live in BC as you know. But it was Bo Levi Mitchell's first game back from his injury and he was rusty but still won Calgary the game! Concessions were many and staffed well. I had a hot dog and some water which was reasonably priced for a Stadium food court. I got talking to my seat neighbour which further enhanced my trip to McMahon Stadium. It is old for sure but it sounds like Calgary is more intuned with the Calgary flames then their Football team. Too bad a new stadium would certainly add further entertainment value to people coming to the game.
Everything about the game was great except for the fact that it was played in a 50 year old stadium that looks like an inverted pyramid. It's pathetic that a city that is economic driver of western Canada has a football stadium that looks like a cement hole.
My first time at a Stamps game and it was awesome! I especially love that I don’t have to print out the tickets as they are already on my phone. Great app!
I wanted to buy a Jon Cornish jersey and went to the merchandise store on the west side only to be told I have to go to the east side. When I got to the east side they said no, I have to go out of the stadium and buy it at the Stamps store. So, out I go and no they do not sell Cornish jersey's. I missed the whole 3rd quarter of the game and I was there with my son for his 30th birthday. I was not a happy camper.
If you are looking to spend an evening having a great time with great fans you need to go to a Stamps home game.
I always support my local sporting teams. I spend a lot of my hard earned money supporting football and hockey. I have been going to Stampeder games since I was a kid and the stadium is old. Very old. I understand that the only reason we have it is because of some rich oil men built it for the university and it was built privately. It is time that a new professional stadium is built. Edmonton has better venues and Calgary needs to do better for itself and step it up.
