Calgary Stampeders History
The Calgary Stampeders are the fifth oldest active franchise in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Founded in 1945, success came early for the Stampeders, who completed the CFL’s only perfect 12-0 regular season and secured their first Grey Cup in 1948. Overall, the Calgary Stampeders have appeared in 17 Grey Cup finals and won eight, in 1948, 1971, 1992, 1998, 2001, 2008, 2014 and 2018. Notably, the Stamps’ championship victories in 2001 and 2008 also stand as the two highest-attended CFL championship games of the 21st century. Throughout the team’s history, Calgary Stampeders players have claimed 11 Most Outstanding Player Awards, nine Most Outstanding Canadian Awards, six Most Outstanding Rookie Awards, four Most Outstanding Defensive Player Awards and eight Annis Stukus Trophies for the CFL’s top head coach. The Calgary Stampeders and the Edmonton Elks are included in the multi-league sports rivalry between the two cities, dubbed the Battle of Alberta.

Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium
McMahon Stadium has been the home of the Stampeders since it opened in 1960. The stadium is owned by the University of Calgary and named after two Calgary residents and brothers, Frank McMahon and George McMahon, who helped fund the facility’s construction. McMahon Stadium was the site of the 1988 Winter Olympics' opening and closing ceremonies and has hosted five Grey Cup finals between 1975, 1993, 2000, 2009 and 2019. The 35,400-seat venue has undergone several expansions and renovations, most notably in 1988, 2001 and 2005. During home games, fans can catch sight of Ralph the Dog, the first mascot of any CFL team, or celebrate a touchdown with the release of a white gelding known as the "Quick Six" horse, who charges along the east sideline.

by PoorSaskatchewanneighbour on 2018-10-23McMahon Stadium - CalgaryEnjoyed a great game between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Calgary Stampeders. It was a lovely night weather wise and the teams cooperated in producing a game the ending of which was in doubt till the very end. As a Saskatchewan fan I was of course delighted with the outcome but in the knowledge that the game could easily have gone either way. The Calgary fans were great - there was no heckling or hassling during the game and no bitterness at the end. The only blemish for the evening is the stadium - I think it might be the oldest in the league and it is certainly not the most hospitable - especially bathroom wise. In any case - great night - great game!

I left the offer fairly late so selection wasn't the greatest, but that's on me. There really isn't a horrible seat in McMahon Stadium for watching a game. The team was full value for the entertainment value and they won to top it all off - a great way to spend a Saturday summer's evening.

The "Fly Over" with the four Jets was incredible and got the fans and the players pumped up and the barrel rolls on the return pass were impressive , they couldn't have been more that 50 ft over the tower cables ! Esks got off to an early lead but the Stamps showed their mettle, got the running game going mixing up power and speed and took the game over . A late charge by the Eskimo's and a questionable coach's call on not taking a third down gamble had it close but the Stamps prevailed and are off to the Grey Cup . I like CFL playoff games , lots of energy in the stands and a close game is the best , not much of an NFL fan , I love the CFL because you never really know , those last few minutes can be critical .

I would suggest that the Stumps hire qualified ushers and security to monitor the continuous parade to the concessions and back to seats. I came to watch a football game, not somebodies butt.
