About

Green Day redefined punk rock in a post-grunge world. Rising from the Bay Area punk scene in 1987, the band released several EPs before coalescing into their long-standing lineup of vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tré Cool. The trio shared the independent album Kerplunk in 1991 before releasing their major label debut Dookie in 1994. Behind singles like “Longview,” “Basket Case” and “When I Come Around,” which each topped the Alternative Airplay chart, Dookie reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Dookie earned Green Day three Grammy nominations, including a win for Best Alternative Music Performance, and the album continues to stand as the band’s best-selling release with over 20 million copies sold worldwide. Green Day followed with 1995’s Insomniac and 1997’s Nimrod, with the latter boasting the band’s biggest creative shift with the rare acoustic single, “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).” After 2000’s Warning, Green Day spent the next few years developing their first of several ambitious projects, the 2004 punk rock opera American Idiot. The album became Green Day’s first to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and it logged two Top 10 singles with “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends.” American Idiot garnered seven Grammy nominations and won two, including Best Rock Album. The band won the Best Rock Album Grammy again with 2009’s concept album 21st Century Breakdown. A stage adaptation of American Idiot debuted on Broadway in 2010 and won two Tony Awards and a Grammy for the cast recording. Furthermore, Green Day were first-ballot inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.

Green Day is one of the goofiest bands I've ever seen live, and yet they still seem to capture my heart. From bringing fans onstage to let them become rockstars for a song or two, to making the audience bawl their eyes out when Good Riddance is played (I have no shame), they provided an unforgettable and amazing experience.

Green Day takes the Hammer by storm

by MadMal on 2017-03-23FirstOntario Centre - Hamilton

It was 2 and a half hours of Green Day hits from start to finish, with songs from 92's Kerplunk, to current day release, Revolution Radio. Billy Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, Tre Cool and the rest of the boys, had the sold out arena on their feet from the moment they hit the stage with, Know Your Enemy, from 21st Century Breakdown, through a 28 song retrospective from their 20 plus year career, and ending with the always poignant, Good Riddance (Time of Your Life). This was my fourth time seeing these guys live and they did not disappoint, outstanding show!

If I was only able to see one band for the rest of my life it would be Green Day. Absolutely phenomenal. They are not my favourite, music wise, but blow my favourite artists out of the water in terms of performance. If you love live music, this is THE show to see. You will have the TIME OF YOUR LIFE.

    Green Day Beyond Expectations!!!

by OnTour on 2017-03-21First Ontario Centre - Hamilton

My first show in Hamilton to see Green Day was a show to end all shows...if you want to hear nothing but good music for 2 hrs straight, these guys killed it all night with every song you know and Radio Revolution music as well with nothing left behind. Fan interaction was amazing and GD play for the audience in front of them rather than just going through the "set-list motions" as there was nothing scripted and it was pure spontaneity from start to finish. I would definitely say you have to see Green Day at least once in your concert lifetime, you won't regret it.

    A must see!

by ChicPanda on 2013-04-12Air Canada Centre - Toronto

This was my first GD concert and they do not fail to impress! Very high energy and genuine top notch performance without the video and auto-tune extras which is very common these days. My only disappointment is that I have not seen them live before this.

Green Day as I thought. Simply Great

Great energy, the fans lifted the Band!

by Brusselsprout on 2013-04-02CONSOL Energy Center - Pittsburgh

Billy Joe Armstrong came out in full-force as were the other band members. The light show was amazing, although it would have been nice to have a few Giant screens. One of the best band LIVE!

Green Day one of the top shows.

by NickyP on 2011-03-24Copps - Hamilton

Green Day hands down put on one of the best live shows I have every seen. They put all there energy into every song. They also do more than just play music they make the audience part of the show. If you have never seen Green Day live you are missing out. Only negative was lack of body surfing and mosh pitting. But that has nothing to do with Green Day but to do with crappy Copps. But at very least there was a small pit going in the front right hand corner so I just made my way there and had a great time. Bottom line I love Green Day live and my biggest regret was not going to the show in molson. I would deffinatly see them again.

    One cool show.

by Hayzeus on 2010-09-10Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

I'll get my negatives out of the way first...... The pyrotechnic "bangs" were awful and added a cheapness to the show. Much like a large paper bag being popped and it was over used by the opening act and Greenday. Also, they displayed some depth when performing the intros of Ironman, Highway to hell, Sweet child of mine to name a few, however it was disappointing that they couldn't follow through with the rest of the songs. Now for the good stuff. Greenday was balls out, their performance was outside of the box. The concert started with Billie Joe running around the Molson Amphitheatre, unfortunately a random guy decided to tackle him. Some leads would have called it a night but he immediately picked himself up and completed the circuit. Greenday often let the audience up on stage with them and played with or around them, maybe it was a loss of control by security at times but they showed a lot of class playing through it. A good sign of their sobriety was that Toronto was integrated within songs. BJ was on his game. He brought a young kid named Sawyer on stage once the boy had revealed his name, BJ played a Rush riff. Almost too convenient ;-) It was love/hate when they invited a random on stage to perform Longview. As it is one of my favourite songs from my youth it would have been nice to hear them do it. But Kudos to them and the random as it wasn't awful. And he got a guitar out of it. They played a long and hard show. Definitely got my moneys worth.

    Definately Entertaining

by TerriLuz on 2010-09-01Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

The music was terrific. I thought the swearing and references to drug use was unnecessary and there was way too much "ayyy ohh" participations. They played for 3 hours and were very entertaining. You definately got your moneys worth.

    The best ever concert!

by Hopey on 2010-08-31Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

Green Day is my favorite band and they outdid themselves this time. I saw them last year in Hamilton and loved the show but this time they gave even more. I was exhausted after the show and that is a good thing. They did such a variety of songs and no other band has the same energy. They are the best!
