About

Green Day redefined punk rock in a post-grunge world. Rising from the Bay Area punk scene in 1987, the band released several EPs before coalescing into their long-standing lineup of vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tré Cool. The trio shared the independent album Kerplunk in 1991 before releasing their major label debut Dookie in 1994. Behind singles like “Longview,” “Basket Case” and “When I Come Around,” which each topped the Alternative Airplay chart, Dookie reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Dookie earned Green Day three Grammy nominations, including a win for Best Alternative Music Performance, and the album continues to stand as the band’s best-selling release with over 20 million copies sold worldwide. Green Day followed with 1995’s Insomniac and 1997’s Nimrod, with the latter boasting the band’s biggest creative shift with the rare acoustic single, “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).” After 2000’s Warning, Green Day spent the next few years developing their first of several ambitious projects, the 2004 punk rock opera American Idiot. The album became Green Day’s first to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and it logged two Top 10 singles with “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends.” American Idiot garnered seven Grammy nominations and won two, including Best Rock Album. The band won the Best Rock Album Grammy again with 2009’s concept album 21st Century Breakdown. A stage adaptation of American Idiot debuted on Broadway in 2010 and won two Tony Awards and a Grammy for the cast recording. Furthermore, Green Day were first-ballot inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.

Green Day ROCKS Toronto in 2010!

by akared on 2010-08-23Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

I have seen Green Day 4 times and this was easily the best show! I was in general admission and was so close I could have reached out and touched the band! It was crowded but not too rough and absolutely everyone was there to have a good time. My son was saved by Billie Joe and played a riff of Rush's Tom Sawyer in honour of my boy's first name, Sawyer. Green Day is the most interactive band when it comes to fans. No less than 25 people made it onto the stage that night - no other band does that. If you have never seen Green Day live, you have never lived! This was my first time at the Molson Amphatheatre and I thought is was a phenominal venue! CREDT for photos goes to NAOMI - thx for some awesome pics!

    Green day was AMAZING

by EJE1 on 2010-08-23Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

What a great experience. I never saw a band have so much fun on stage. You could tell they were loving it , doing what they were doing and the audience joined right in and everyone had a blast. The band had a great grasp of the audience and what they wanted. Everyone sang along with their songs and the songs they did of other bands as well. Went with my 12 year old daughter and we were both singing and dancing and having a great time. Definitely appealing for all generations. What a treat.

    Green Day is AWESOME

by jaimz on 2010-08-23Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

I've seen Green Day 23 times since I was 17 (I'm 34). This was by far the best show ever. I went to see them in Quebec City AND Montreal on this tour as well and Toronto kicked their butts. I gotta say, Toronto sure does love Green Day. If you have a chance to catch a live Green Day performance, you will NEVER be disappointed. Best punk rock band going right now...I would even say best band!!! LOVE YOU GREEN DAY!!! Keep on rocking in the free world.

Took my son to this concert. I have been a big fan since the early years and he now loves them too. This was his first ever concert and we both had a blast.!!! The guys performed nonstop for 3+ hours and was truly AMAZING and UNFORGETTABLE! Will never top this on my son's "awesome things I did" list!!

    Greenday rocked the Amphitheatre

by Anonymous on 2010-08-22Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

Can't believe I got floors, had the best time! They played for almost 3 hours, and interacted with the audience more than any other concert I've seen. They even dragged 1/2 the floors section up on stage, selected fans from the audience to sing with them up there...really got the whole place into it...it was one of the best concerts I've been to.

    Green Day Love Fest

by middleagefan on 2010-08-22Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

That is how a concert is done! Green Day played for three hours straight, they gave and gave until we were all exhausted. They said thank you. One could feel the love in the air. Billie Joe was masterful and clearly having a blast. The crowd stayed on their feet the entire show. It was a great show!

by bigcat on 2010-08-22Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

They really know how to create energy and intimacy. Everyone felt like they were partying with Green Day. The mixed humor and great musicianship. A great stage show and awesome visual. All the hits we expected and more. Can't wait to see them again! Venue was perfect for them.

    GD played for 3 hours!!

by gdrocks1905 on 2010-08-22Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

Best concert I've ever been to! We missed AFI, but got there for the start of Green Day. They went on at 8 and played straight through until 11. There isn't really a song that I wanted to hear that wasn't played. Well done boys!

    Awesome Concert

by kosmicrays2 on 2010-08-21Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

I saw them in Hamilton last July. This concert at Molson Amphitheater was by far way better! They played a lot of old stuff, and included the fans to accompany him on stage! I came to realize how talented Billie Joe Armstrong is. He traded places with Tre Cool, and the Sax player, and played the mouth organ, and just put on an amazing show! This is my second time now seeing them, and would most definitely see them again and again! He was funny, and full of energy! I cannot believe they played for 3 hours without a break! I had amazing seats in the 200 level. Awesome seats! My 16 yr old daughter had floors, and was right at the front. She said it was an experience of a lifetime, and the best concert of her life!

by mistygirl on 2010-08-20Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

Just couldn't believe that a band as famous as Green Day would play for 3 hours! Every one of their songs that they played was great! The pyrotech stuff was very cool and the timing was right on! Very high energy show! Absolutely loved it!!!

Still Rockin it 3 1/2 hours later

by EastOntGuy on 2010-08-20Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

Wow these guys give you your money's worth, they rocked on for over 3 hours, without a breather. The show was amazing from beginning to end. There is also nothing like an outdoor concert on a warm summer's night. Perfect!

    Green Day rocked it out!!!!!!!

by innerfreaks on 2010-08-20Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

Once again the boys from the Bay area didn't disappoint! Proving yet again why both of Green Day and AFI are my two fav bands to see live! What an amazing show. Green Day kicked it out of the park with a three hour set, including their encore. I dare you to attend a Green Day concert and not have an incredible time!

by BLynnD on 2010-08-20Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

Green Day is my fav band and they were awesome!! I saw them in 2009 in Hamilton - the mix of music was a bit better and the beginning and end were a touch more dramatic and memorable which was too bad. However, what can I say - it was Green Day - they are amazing - who could ever disagree?!!?
