    Second act slow

by JC000 on 2013-12-10National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

First act was very well done. I found the second act very slow moving. The Egyptian themed dance was MUCH too long!

Nutcracker got me in the Spirit of the Holidays!

by Kats9 on 2013-12-10National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I have always wanted to see this and I am so glad that I had the opportunity this Holiday Season. I have already bought my ticket for Swan Lake in January 2014. Great Performance!

Nutcracker was not what i expected

by Sarasmile on 2013-12-10National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The first half was a compressed version of the children's tale, but after the intermission it was an hour of random dancing. I brought my 7 and 5 year old girls, but noticed all the kids in the audience were completely lost on the 2nd half - Perhaps my fault ...maybe my girls were too young. But even I did not really like the format of it. The dancing of course was spectacular, but maybe I am just not a ballet connoisseur.

As someone who goes to the Nutcracker yearly, we were pleased with the high quality of the dance, however found it someone too much geared towards children. PS, newborns/infants shouldn't be permitted as the crying disrupted the performance.

    Not what I expected

by Grace28 on 2013-12-09National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

We went to the 7pm Friday night performance and was surprised by how the story had been changed to suit a younger audience. It was more comical and cute than an impressive performance (though the ballet in the second act was quite good). The audience was also full of babies crying and children playing, which surprised me (there are afternoon performances, and these tickets were not cheap) and took away from the experience for us as we could often not hear the music for all the chatter and noise. It was still a nice show, but certainly far from what I thought it would be.

The Nutcracker was memorable, the music wonderful.

by Jonee on 2013-12-07National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I loved the Canadian theme, 1913, pre-war. The dancing on Wednesday night was not as precise as I am used to seeing from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company. The costumes represented the times well but I would have preferred a bit more colour. The 'Egyptian' dancers seemed to be invisible in their costumes. All in all good entertainment that helped me get into the holiday spirit.

    Unforgettable

by YetAnotherArtsLover on 2013-10-07National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I enjoyed the show immensely. It was a real treat from beginning to end except for the jarring moment when the spoof of an african with grotesque features appeared on stage for everyone to laugh at. I was shocked and am still troubled by that moment. I wish Maguy Marin would explain what that is about. The rest of the dance was spectacular, breathtaking, riveting, awesome wonderful. It left me with much to think about. It was a refreshing perspective on society through decades of catastrophes, to the beat of the news, the arts, war, celebrations etc. The performers were terrific.

    A lot of running around

by Gizzie on 2013-10-07National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I recognize the level of difficulty the dancers coped with. It is a very physically challenging show. I did get some of the symbolism but not all of it. I did not feel a sense of beauty in the overall presentation.

    Krysanova is just amazing Kitri!!!

by henryzhang on 2012-07-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Krysanova is really unforgettable!!! Krysanova maintains perfect tempo which should be the speed written by Minkus for Kitri.

I like Marie Alexandrova so much !!!

by henryzhang on 2012-07-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

the reason I choose this performance is for Maria Alexandrova, she's so good than I expect. I just saw her swan at Toronto several days ago, I think her Kitri is much better......

The Bolshoi puts on a great show

by kermitfan on 2012-06-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Maria Aleksandrova was exquisite in her roll as Kitri, very animated and likeable, The characters were very well cast, except maybe for Basilio, who I found to be a little thin and not well matched to Kitri. The choreography was challenging and showcased the dancers' talents well. I would definitely see it again.

    Mindblowig!

    Bolshoi Great!!!

by Kiesel on 2012-06-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The whole performance was great. When I read that 'first team' wasn't touring I had some concerns but these were soon dismissed as dancers, sets and costumes were excellent.

    Ballet at its best

by GerryT on 2012-06-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

This production excels in every respect. It is colourful, entertaining and technically outstanding - what more can you ask for? I highly recommend it. We were a group that ranged in age from 11 to 80 and everyone was equally enchanted with the performance.

    An evening of great dancing

by Eveline on 2012-06-13National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I loved this performance. My eyes were glued to the magnificent costumes and to the beautiful sets. I enjoyed the music so well performed by the NAC orchestra. The choreography kept me interested from beginning to end. The quality of the dancing had me mesmerized, and not just from the prima ballerinas. All of the dancers were so talented and performed beautifully. This is what I want to see when I attend a professional ballet performance. I was a little disappointed with the choice of ballets, Don Quixote not being my favorite, but otherwise the evening was terrific. I'd love to see the Bolshoi perform again. Perhaps Swan Lake or Sleeping Beauty or The Nutcracker?

Fun to see the legendary Bolshoi in real life.

by Balletomanian on 2012-06-13National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Costumes, sets and music were lush. I enjoyed how the plot was barely there- the thinnest thread to string together the pearls of dance performance.

    Wow can they Dance!

by FirstBolshoiShow on 2012-06-13National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

An absolutely amazing performance! They danced so perfectly and beautifully. You were engrossed in the dancing but also the storyline; you were entranced, shocked, awed and captivated. I have never enjoyed a performance so much, and laughed off and on all the way through at the antics of Sancho.

    Amanzingly simplistic

by thiagofernandes on 2012-04-21National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

This show is above and beyond. It is so simple, though complex, so modern, though nostalgic. It is a must see. The music is fantastic, the choreography fabulous and the illumination will blow your mind. Reserve your tickets before they sold out!
