Many years ago, my wife and I attended a show at the NAC called "Tango Argentina". We have been hankering to see another Tango dance show for some time. "Tango Legends" fit the bill. There are differences between the two shows. In "Tango Legends", the dancers are younger, there are singers and the band play some numbers without dancers.
Overall I found the show to be entertaining. The dancers were very athletic, the flicks between the leg were sharp. The choreography was clever and original. I found myself being surprised although I am fairly familiar with the Tango. I could have done without the singers. They were just average. The stars, however were the musicians. From the start you could tell they are excellent musicians, but because the first half of the show was dedicated to a cafe setting, they played it straight and supported the cancers. However, in the second half, on four occasions, they played without the dancers. It was clearly NUEVO TANGO, but it was like listening to a skilled jazz band. The piano player and the bandoneon player were the stars. The bass layer provided a solid foundation, switching from arco to fingers without a hitch.
My wife enjoyed the show, but indicated that she preferred the dancers from "Tango Argentina" as they were more mature.
