Vancouver Whitecaps FC History
The Vancouver Whitecaps may have only joined MLS in 2011 (alongside the Portland Timbers), but the team has a long history in the Pacific Northwest. The Whitecaps first launched in 1974 as a member of the now-defunct North American Soccer League and moved to the Canadian Soccer League in 1986 as the 86ers. The team would remain as the 86ers until 2000 when the Whitecaps name resurfaced as part of the A-League, which would later become the United Soccer League (USL).
Finally, on March 18, 2009, the Whitecaps were introduced as the newest franchise in MLS, where they would keep the Whitecaps name as part of the United States' top division. The club qualified for their first playoff run in 2012, becoming the first Canadian MLS franchise to do so. Meanwhile, the Whitecaps have claimed the Voyageurs Cup at the annual interleague Canadian Championship in 2015, 2022, and 2013 and count 2013 MLS Golden Boot winner Camilo Sanvezzo among their alumni.

We went to BC for a viewing party to watch the Whitecaps play an away game for the Western conference final. I didn’t know what to expect - going to a stadium to basically watch TV - but it was a great experience. The atmosphere was great and the usual amenities were available. Just too bad they didn’t turn on the heat.
Lucky enough to purchase face value tickets to the conference semi-final game, a game which had everything. Highly recommend going to a Whitecaps game if you get the chance.
Vancouver White Caps were true warriors , never gave up and kept fighting. The goal post became a replacement player . This game had everything red cards, yellow cards, injuries, bad ref calls, short handed for a long time, and it all came down to the last penalty kick. My head was sprouting grey hairs. The atmosphere with a sold out venue was amazing. I have been replaying the highlights and watching all the commentary for the last four days. I pray and believe you will win the San Jose game.
Absolutely incredible experience. From each of the Whitecaps goals, to the tension of the second half, being down 2 men at extra time, and finally sealing the deal at penalties, this game was an instant classic. Stunner of a game, amazing atmosphere, unbelievable 50k+ fans, and an experience I'll never forget. Let's go, Caps!
We bought tickets late in the process, so ended up in the upper reaches of the upper bowl, but still felt close to the action. We rode the waves of emotion throughout the match, and prayed the Caps could, first, get the game over the 90-minute finish line, and then over the 30-minute overtime finish line. The boys worked hard through all 120+++ minutes and never gave up; and then they, and we,, were rewarded. So amazing, and such a great performance. Thank you, boys
Although lost a player due to a red card whitecaps didnt give up and won the game after all.
We attended the Whitecaps vs. LAFC match on Nov 22nd. Over 50,000 people were in attendance, cheering for our favourite team, the Whitecaps. The atmosphere was magnificent, packed with excitement, scary moments, and the resilience of the Whitecaps boys. It was an amazing evening with plenty of thrilling moments. In the end, our boys won the playoff match, and the entire stadium erupted in celebration. Go Caps Go!!!
What a match! From the moment the whistle blew, the atmosphere was electric, and the Whitecaps delivered in dramatic fashion. In front of a sold-out crowd (reported 53,957 fans) Incredible atmosphere, you could feel the tension, the crowd energy and the stakes.
As my father-in-law, a lifelong soccer fan from England, describes it: "That was the greatest game I have seen played in Vancouver." Way to go, White Caps.
