About

WICKED is a Tony-winning sensation that has been defying gravity and delighting Broadway audiences since 2003. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the fantastical prequel to The Wizard of Oz was nominated for 10 Tony Awards after it opened at the Gershwin Theatre in New York City, and won three, including Best Actress for Idina Menzel, who played the original Elphaba. The musical’s first national tour opened in 2005 and ever since, WICKED’s touring production has criss-crossed North America offering theatergoers one short day in the Emerald City filled with magic, music and the ”untold true story of the Witches of Oz.” The second national tour — known as the “Munchkinland Tour” — has been an open-ended production since 2009 and now stars Olivia Valli as Elphaba and Celia Hottenstein as Glinda.

    Rivetting show with amazing talent!

by mom2lexi on 2014-07-14Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

We saw the Sunday afternoon matinee, so Elphaba was played by the stand in, as well as a few other characters. If those were the stand ins, well wow! We were blown away. She was amazing. the stage was so cool, the show was entertaining, and the singing talent was phenomenal. It was a well cast production. I have read the books and was curious how it was going to be made into a musical and I was pleasantly surprised with the direction they took. Highly recommend, hopefully I can see it again!

Took my daughter to see this as she was so excited it was coming to town, I did not expect much, I was a little turned off by the whole side story from Oz theme. Turns out I absolutely loved it! Great story, awesome songs, the acting was superb. The set design unbelievable, deifinately worth the time and the money to see, I would see it again.

    fantastic

by BlondieFan on 2014-07-13Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I went with some friends to Wicked , we had really good seats 2nd balcony . Perhaps being closer would have given us a better view of their faces but there are really no bad seats at the Jubilee plus any closer and we would have been paying a lot more money. The acting, effects and singing were top notch.

The play was amazing the venue was disappointing

by Anonymous on 2014-07-12Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

The play was fantastic and the cast was unbelievable, I would recommend this show to anyone! The Jubilee was very disappointing, the people in front of us weren't even tall and we could see next to nothing. We had to strain throughout the entire show to see the stage. To pay over $100 a ticket and not be able to see seems ridiculous. The citadel is much better set up for shows of this nature.

    Wicked

by GillyBare on 2014-07-12Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

My first thoughts, were, the opening production...I can't understand what they are singing. I found the song "fuzzy". I thought it was my hearing. But, after that opening and the show got going, the sound was better. At the admission, I found my companions experienced the same issue. Not sure if it was the acoustics of the facility or just poorly managed sound. B ut, overall a great show, lots of humour.

Amazing Stage direction and Beautiful Costumes!!!

by HBBear on 2014-07-11Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

To start... what a beautiful story. My son is a huge fan of the classic "Wizard of Oz" but we both came to the realization that everything Dorthy saw was in the eyes of a child; having the opportunity to see the story told by the witches was both educational and insperational. The costumes and sets were amazing as well as the music and the performance by all. Choreography was entertaining and the stage direction was great. My one concern only with the stage direction was the highschool almost junior high show curtain that was pulled infront by 'Glinda' to hide the Witch as she melted, perhaps a better choice is needed. I could think of a few. In addition I was unfortunatley, yet again let down by the accoustic of the auditorium... it's a shame that such powerhouse vocalist, with elevating expression and dedication to the character was lost with poor technical support(microphones) and accoustic of the theatre. My family and I enjoyed the show, how could you not? But I was not moved as I should have been. Initially I felt it was the performers holding back in areas of the music but realized as the show was going on a balance had not yet been found. More technical reahersal maybe? or a bad day (to bad it was on my buck). Worth seeing atleast once. My son's favourite part was the lion tail (we laughed all the way home). Mine was the memorable ending of the story where our lovable Scarecrow character and the 'Wicked' Witch are reunited in a beautiful love story ending.
